Good on you guys! Keeping the backpacking and video real by following the vibes! Glad to have you back on the East coast. I recently started my own backpacking RUclips channel largely because of your inspiration!
Good decision…we have done the same thing in the past when the weather turned bad and reality set in around midnight…had to hike out about a mile on the spine of a mountaintop in the pouring rain, thunder, lightening, and dense fog with only cell phone lights to guide us since our flashlights and headlamps died…thanks for the years of videos…always look forward to your posts.
Yay! You're back on the east coast! And with Frank! Glad to see you both back in the snow! Can't wait to watch the entire episode. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us!
So glad to see you back on the east coast! Enjoy all your videos no lie but the east coast ones are why I subscribed! Hope you, Sarah and Denali are enjoying your holidays!
I was on the original search and rescue team back in ‘95. Oddly enough a few days after the crash the crew I was on was within a few hundred yards of the crash site. Unlimited resources were utilized for over a week, to no avail.
That's crazy, man. I can believe it though - that's some dense forest on steep terrain. Heck, we had our saved coordinates from last time and we still didn't see it until it was right in front of our faces.
OH MY GOSH !!! You're back on the best coast again 😊 I love Cranberry Wilderness but in case you didn't notice, there was a ghost talking to you on your video. Super cool !!
I used that campsite in September of 2021 on a solo trip and those stacked logs around the fire pit were still there then… I remember saying thanks to whoever stacked them because it was a blessing. It was pouring the rain and I was able to use it to make a roof structure to get a good fire going! Then I put it back as I found it for the next guy!
I got the Silky Bigboy last year and it has been worth it's weight every trip. Cut up some good size looks a log fire ring. Just need a fixed blade knife to baton logs to get to the dry stuff.😁
Glad to see you in WV again! I loved this video. I know the Cranberry Wilderness very well. You made good decisions and no hiking plans go exactly right. Thanks for sharing and Frank seems like a good trail partner.
I enjoy your videos very much. I have sone a bit of primitive camping years past in Pickett State park in Tennessee and Lake Cumberland WMA in Kentucky. Both were fun experiences have fun be safe and as always enjoy that cheeseburger!
Welcome back to WV! I love Big Beachy trail (aka Big Bitchy). I always warn people new to Cranberry to not expect the well-traveled trails like Dolly Sods. We went to Cranberry since the snow was supposed to stay north closer to Dolly. We woke up on day 2, to around 4 inches of snow and 17 degrees. It was an awesome trip! In 3 days, we saw only 4 people, and it was a weekend in the early part of the pandemic.
Right before you say “I thought I heard something over there “. You hear a woman’s voice whisper something and again shortly after. I know that’s not what this channel is about but I heard it !
Not so much into cowboy camping now that I'm out of military for a while, if I don't carry a tent, I fer darn sure going to go with tarp and ridgeline just to save what ambient heat sleeping on the ground is ok . However I've got to have a roof and wind guard. Great video content once again.
Thanks! I enjoyed this video. There are times I have tried to start a fire in my Smoky mountain cabin with fire starter logs and what I think is good wood, and it just won't go. It makes me wonder how accidental fires get started! Anyway, y'all did the right thing. You found the plane, reset the cross, paid your respects to the pilot, enjoyed each other's company, and followed your instincts to leave. I have learned that when your gut tells you to go, you need to heed that little voice. I heard the voice too; it sounded like atc speaking?? Did you add that for dramatic effect? Anyway, here's a small donation for maybe 2 cups of coffee, and I hope you and Sarah had a great Christmas!
Staying on trail in those surroundings must be tough, few if any features to navigate by with all the snowy tree limbs. Loved this trip, thank you, i love snow. Would love you to revisit the shelter with the double stone fireplaces, it snowed in the night and was sketchy walking but it was so amazing to see. Good call dusting.
Hi Shawn and Frank 👊🏻👋🏻Hope you and families had a great Christmas 🎄 Stay safe, take care, have an awesome New Year 🎊 my friends 👍🏻 Appreciate you always 🙏🏻 God Bless
When it comes to tracks, just remember, dogs can't retract their claws. When it comes to winter camping; never count on a fire to keep you warm. Always count on your gear.
Please tell me you guys at least had an emergency reflective tarp blanket. At least carry like a floorless pyramid tent that you guys could use a sturdy stick to prop up for the center pole inside. I’ve just been on a lot of backpacking trips with good weather predictions which turned into rain/snow trips. I think Sarah would agree with me on this one😁👍🏼. Definitely coyote tracks. This has been a tough winter for Franconia Ridge already, sadly. You gotta play it safe out there buddy!!! Take care. NQU PS. Did you add those ghostly comments at 13:40 like everybody’s chatting about?😁
Appreciate your sharing the content! I enjoy, especially, the the trips where you're investigating something historical. How about another trip to the Smokies? Working on my 900 miler on my Southern Reflections Channel and would love to do a hike with you down there!
I haven't been in a few years, but am thinking about backpacking Dolly Sods or the Shenandoahs. When you pack out your empty meal bags, do you seal them in a scent-blocking bag to avoid attracting hungry critters? I'm wondering if it's necessary. Thanks
The next time you go to that area and you're wanting to look for stuff like that.Take a metal detector they have a wand it doesn't weigh very much in its relatively small
Hey, Sintax! I see you loaned your buddy the Scandinavian Gear backpack. That was my starter backpack 6 or 7 years ago. Your review of it and test hike was one of the reasons I bought it. I like the pack but the sternum strap detached. I did get it back on but haven't used it since that time. I splurged on a Hyperlite Mountain Gear Junction which has worked well.
Dude ! My GF and I watch most of your videos ,especially back in the day in NH we hike up there all the time. But man. Even my Gf is like " there's plenty of standing dead wood to burn !! . Youguys need to work on wood gathering and fire skills. I bet Mike eye rolled this video 😂
Bro, at 13:30, you can hear a women's whisper. You said in the video, "You thought you heard something over there." Also at 13:40, and it talks over you at 13:53.
Beautiful trail and forest , But I could see people becoming lost very easily in there, Very sad incident re the plan crash so sad . aww sucks that things didnt go as planed but things happen . In all loved the video Always trust your guy feeling bad vibe leave the area for sure.
Sintex77 when you said you thought that you heard something your heard a woman say exactly and when you said you were losing your mind it said you did to you too and it said something else after that but I couldn't make it out though
They're some North Face ones. I t picked them up last minute at REI, but I forget what the specific name is. They're pretty comfy chilling at camp boots bs hard core mileage.
It's no fun when you're cold and wet. Back when we used to hunt in the Adirondacks we went one year and there was a big rain storm coming that first night. The wind was blasting and t was raining. During the night it turned to freezing rain and then snow. The wind was battering the tent so hard it snaped a fiberglass poll which we were able to patch up. Over the next five days it snowed every day and we never saw the sun . There was no way to dry out sleeping bags from body condensation. By the fifth day when we left to go home there would be no safe way we could have stayed another night trying to sleep in our very damp bags. By the time we left we were hiking three miles through knew deep snow . Don't ever try to play tough guy with nature
13:30 Sounded like a female voice saying, "Exactly." If that's not you messing around or something done in editing, that's freaking creepy. It's like she was agreeing with you. Holy smokes 😅
Why didn’t you guys go out and start looking for some deadfall? I’ve seen other RUclipsrs go out in the same kind of wet and snowy conditions and they were perfectly able to get a good fire going by cutting up deadfall that was not laying on the ground. Why didn’t you do that? And why didn’t you take a hatchet or an axe? I don’t get it - especially when you were counting so heavily on a fire to keep you warm.
My deepest respect to the pilot. Question? You guys went into snow covered mountains in the winter knew it had been raining and you didn’t bring a folding saw to take down a dry dead tree then baton it with a knife into quarters? That’s about the only way a fire could have survived.
Oh my! I enjoy the variety of your content! However annoyed by your dependcy on technology. Not really a bad thing But your unfamiliarity with BATONNING! A READY SOURCE OF DRY WOOD IN WET WEATHER! Pucks were green horn silliness. Still, a fun adventure 😊
Dude your mind was not playing tricks there was a whispering voice, and I'm not a person that believes in ghosts or anything like that, I went back and played it again watching the person walking behind you he said nothing, plus you were breathing heavy the cadince in the whisper and yours don't match.
I want to thank you and Frank for setting the Cross back up in Cranberry Wilderness
Good on you guys! Keeping the backpacking and video real by following the vibes! Glad to have you back on the East coast. I recently started my own backpacking RUclips channel largely because of your inspiration!

It takes more courage to change a plan and work twice as hard than to commit. I am proud of you guys for realizing the futile battle and getting out.
Yay! You're back on the east coast! And with Frank! Glad to see you both back in the snow! Can't wait to watch the entire episode. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us!
Did you hear the women's voice? Check out my comment.
Thanks for keeping it real. I’ve been in the same scenario before and sometimes you just have to call it.
With that saw and a decent knife, no need to battle external moisture!!! Firebuilding 101.
So glad to see you back on the east coast! Enjoy all your videos no lie but the east coast ones are why I subscribed! Hope you, Sarah and Denali are enjoying your holidays!

Hell yea dope video long time fan here!!

Nice morning out there Syntax. Been awhile. Glad you are out there still! Enjoy!

Right before you say “I thought I heard something over there “. You hear a woman’s voice whisper something and again shortly after. I know that’s not what this channel is about but I heard it !
I heard it to 3 times.
@ so happy someone else heard it!
Sounds like Sara whispering.
At what time stamp
13:30 and it's creepy. She is responding to him.

Thank you, Barbara! I appreciate it. I'll get some nice hot coffee, and hope for drier kindling next time. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Loved every bit of this!
This is the best vid yet. Top stuff
Real men know when to call it! Good job fellas!!

Happy New Year, DB!
Good trip no matter what.Happy New Year😊

Maybe that's why people comes up missing is from that feeling
Something came across the audio at 13:42
He added that for effect
It starts at 13:30
Definitely a female voice then a strange whisper
When it comes to tracks, just remember, dogs can't retract their claws.

Don't know if you were screwing around but there is definitely another voice and whisper going on when u say you thought you heard something. 13:31
Frank is cool, but I miss Trailkilla Mike. Good to see you on the east coast Sintax!!
Leftover Pasta Time, geez I need to update my merch!
13:32 I heard a woman say “descend”, like go down and she said “98”
did you hear that whisper at 13:39? right after you say "your minds playing tricks pn you"
Link to where someone can buy cheap military fleece?
Bro, at 13:30, you can hear a women's whisper. You said in the video, "You thought you heard something over there." Also at 13:40, and it talks over you at 13:53.
My gf and I went back and yup! We can hear it ..but a woman ?! Man died there
Missed it the first time. Thanks for the post. I heard it the second time. That was creepy.
I thought i heard the voice...
yes i had headphones on and i def heard it twice, a woman whispering
Creepy for sure!
Beautiful trail and forest , But I could see people becoming lost very easily in there, Very sad incident re the plan crash so sad . aww sucks that things didnt go as planed but things happen . In all loved the video Always trust your guy feeling bad vibe leave the area for sure.

Very creepy
Im guessing you added the ghostly voice... it encourages comments!
What new boots are you wearing? I had a pair like it but they are well used.
They're some North Face ones. I t picked them up last minute at REI, but I forget what the specific name is. They're pretty comfy chilling at camp boots bs hard core mileage.
Have you seen the plane crash near Leetonia,pa? It’s not hard to get to.
I hadn't heard of that one, but I'll have to look it up. Thanks!

You know, a surplus gore-Tex bivy sack is $30…
Yeah no. Those hills have eyes 👀
They are really taking some liberties with calling that a trail my dude.
What if the yellow trail markers were left by a murderer trying to lure you into his trap. 🤔
I hope sintax added the woman’s voice because that was creepy af. Still great video.
Yeah wow that womans voice was so loud!
Don’t tell Sarah 😮😮😮😊
Creepy
That was definitely Evp. Those woods are haunted. Women’s voice.
That was so creepy. It was responding to him.
Wow you guys are gullible.
Apps and computer programs do not sustain a fire!
lol well at least it wasnt left over turkey ..HNY
13:30 Sounded like a female voice saying, "Exactly." If that's not you messing around or something done in editing, that's freaking creepy. It's like she was agreeing with you. Holy smokes 😅
Sintax: Mind's playin' tricks on me already. . . . Woman: Not yet. . . . That's what I heard the second time at .5 and .75 speed. Who else?
Why didn’t you guys go out and start looking for some deadfall? I’ve seen other RUclipsrs go out in the same kind of wet and snowy conditions and they were perfectly able to get a good fire going by cutting up deadfall that was not laying on the ground. At 50:12 there is a man's voice saying shoot but y'all's mouths aren't moving
Did you edit in your wife's voice near 13:30 ? Very creepy.
My deepest respect to the pilot. Question? You guys went into snow covered mountains in the winter knew it had been raining and you didn’t bring a folding saw to take down a dry dead tree then baton it with a knife into quarters? That’s about the only way a fire could have survived.

13:35 into video what is that voice sounds like a woman's voice whispering. A Ghost? Sintax77 what the dilly yo?????????
Bigfoots? Bigfeets?
Yeah a woman's voice. Couldn't tell what she said though. Weird and scary
13.30 13.40 13.52. Woman’s voice.
The other woman 😂😅😊
Creepy.
I heard it as well. Creepy! I had my head turned away from the TV and snapped right back. Very messed up! LOL
Heard it too !!
A master of editing!
Dude your mind was not playing tricks there was a whispering voice, and I'm not a person that believes in ghosts or anything like that, I went back and played it again watching the person walking behind you he said nothing, plus you were breathing heavy the cadince in the whisper and yours don't match.
14:00 - 16:21 > skip sponsorship
Honestly, I don't mind the sponsorship. Bying the equipment, gas, cameras etc, is not free.
is it just me? or are his videos getting harder to watch. the last 2...and well this one also are really bad.
yeah seems a tiny bit off to me too- cant really put my finger on why though which isnt very helpful.
womans voice 13:37 into video. creepy
🍔🍟🏕
Omg I heard a woman voice
