I love how psychotic, angry, and agonizing this album is. It's a "fuck everything" type of album and I love it a hair more than Iowa. Scissors is my favourite track. 🤘
Self-titled is more like, releasing anger, stress and adrenaline, like f*ck you all. Iowa is more like a catharsis oriented toward wrath, violence, hate and pain, like, I'm gonna k¡ll you if you don't shut up motherf*ck3r bigmouth.
Actually "Tattered & Torn" and "Purity" are connected by "Frail Limb Nursery". This Song-Trio has a very dark story behind it, and thats why they were a bit weird/psychotic. The story is about a girl, trapped in a box and buried alive. Her name was Purity Knight. But because they used original footage of the girls voice, they had some copyright issues with Frail limb Nursery, so they ended up removing it from the album.
That was what the band thought, the real reason it was removed is due to it actually being made up on a website (like a sort of early creepy pasta) but as it was not a real event, they didn’t initially have permission to use it. Either that or a website that had something to do with the name “purity” tried to file a lawsuit. It’s complex and the story has changed but the story ended up not being real
I would love to watch you guys react to the Disasterpieces live in London DVD. Probably the greatest live show I've ever seen. Slipknot in their absolute aggressive prime.
The "slow" gloomy/doomy/noise songs are the types where the story and lyrics are very important. It's not the type of banger music you can just throw on and jam, but they are very deep emotional journeys that build through the song. Definitely the kinds of songs you have to listen to a few times to appreciate, but it's for sure a very contrasting going back and forth between those and the absolute bangers on a first listen. Keep up the good work
What I love about Corey's clean singing in this album and Iowa is that it always sounds unhinged. Like he's slipping into madness. In their albums following the first 2, he definitely starts to sound more "poppy" in some tracks. I grew to appreciate it over time, but it absolutely wasn't what I wanted to hear from him at the time. But in early Slipknot, even his clean voice sounds angry or just... disturbing in some way.
it seems that i am the only one that likes Tattered & Torn lmao, it has one of my favorites breakdowns of all time and that sick and psychotic mood is so well made
There is a hidden track at the end of the album called "Eeyore". You have to wait through minutes of silence but then it starts playing. On the 10th anniversary re-issue it is it's own track, so there's no waiting. Eeyore is their fastest song! Super aggressive! You should check it out. 🤘
@@Benobot99 all I can imagine is someone listening on vinyl in 99 and listening to the whole album and leaving the record in and then minute later just doing something and the song comes on and scares the shit out of them😂😂😂😂
Frail Limb Nursery and Purity are about a fictional story of a girl named Purity Knight that was buried alive in a box. Slipknot had a copyright problem with those songs so they had to remove them. Years later, they won the court case and could put the songs on re-releases of the album.
this is the super old version of this album. you missed 3 song in total, which are fucking great! 1. Eeyore - one of their fastest (if not the fastest) song they ever relased. It is fucking awsome 2. Get This - you would fucking love it. heavy as fuck with violent lyrics 3. Me Inside - a lot of singing (i dont know if you would like it), but it is still a great fuckin' song!
Nice reaction, guys! I missed "eeyore". It's a bonus track from this album, and it's just a banger. You should react later. Another suggestion is Gematria, Sarcastrophe, All Hope is Gone (song) and Red Flag. I'm sure that you guys gone like this songs
You do have to remember that this album came out in 1999, and they tapped into mainstream (ish) sounds at the time, such as ambient music, but twisted it to make it heavier. But Slipknot’s legacy in my mind will be that they enticed people into heavier music that they would never have given a chance. I would say today Jinjer is a similar band (not sound wise) but because people who aren’t used to heavy music can find enough to keep them interested as there is clearly melody and clear musical talent there. For me if it wasn’t for Slipknot I would never of heard of Lamb of God, Gojira, Slaughter, Suicidal Tendencies, Behemoth, etc. They where a step beyond Iron Maiden, Zeppelin etc and Black Sabbath and Metallica…. and appealed to so many more kids when Nu Metal was the only radio friendly metal. Pantera, SOAD and Korn where also very important bands in keeping metal on the radio and creating so many of the harder bands since along with punk / hardcore. So many other bands I haven’t mentioned but you get my drift. Have a great day everyone and enjoy music 🤘🤘🤘
I don't know if you're really supposed to like Tattered & Torn. The impression I've always got is that it sounds like a mad and raving circus because it's a song for Clown and Clown only. Clown, like most of the band members, has had a dark time of life and Tattered & Torn was his way of just getting it out. It's not meant to be enjoyed. That's the impression I got.
As French is really funny to hear the fr part right in the Middle ! Great job guys ! Next time reaction withBelgian beers... the reaction could be complicated to finish ahah
overall i prefer this album to Iowa. mainly because the sound (Drums especially) there's something very raw and primal about them, which was kinda lacking in Iowa. also i feel like Joey (the drummer) was more creative in this one. it's really mindblowing
The first track is a reference to the barcode on the back of the first release of this album. And the audio is fromna charles manson documentary a cult leader sort of serial killer from California.
Hope you react to chimaira the impossibility of reason álbum. , the self title álbum chimaira and ressurection álbum from chimaira to fucking awesome band. , and devildriver is other great band as well
I usually preffer to do song by song to make it all enjoyable. Please would you two react by song requests? There are so many more very nice and heavy Slipknot songs out there but it's like wayy better when done seperately.

The whole purity knight thing was a fake story created for a amateur detective website from the late 90s.
Wasn’t tattered originally on mate feed kill repeat album?
@@rdgblading1813 It was, but I think the lyrics were changed. So either Clown decided to change it, or it was rewritten for Corey

I've seen them in Paris a few days before this gig in London, february 2002. I was 18. Can you imagine bro.
I was at that show. London arena was walking distance for me

The drums on this album are so raw and sick!! Love it!!
The tattered and torn song is more of an interlude rather than a song. Nice reaction guys. Amazing album. Check out some Pantera next.
Thanks ! The thing with painters is that I know everything by heart but I can put it on “juan’s favourite tracks” like I did with chaosphere
nah it's not an interlude, actually it's my favorite track of the album, i really like that psycho vibe, and the final breakdown is amazing
'Liberate' might be the grooviest song Slipknot has ever made

The person who lost his grandfather and recorded the audio 515 of Iowa was the band's DJ, Sid Wilson
