Scalp Massage For Hair Loss [48 Weeks] + Top Hair Loss Treatments

  • After seeing promising results in the first 24 week experimental scalp massage, I continued this for a further 48 weeks.
The first 24 weeks was a strict 5 minutes/day, the second 24 weeks was a "do what you can" approach that didn't go well, and the third 24 weeks of scalp massage was 20 minutes, three times a week.
In hindsight the key component is likely to be frequency and not cumulative time, the way the research paper correlated improvements gave the impression that better results were related to total overall time. In the video I suggest an optimal approach as twice a day, or every 12 hours, and re-reading the paper that's actually what was proposed.
However, 2 x 20 mins/day is a ridiculous time cost, equivalent to 20 hours/month. If you chose Redensyl at £20/month you could fund it with 2-3 hours paid work, far more efficient than massage. Instead, I feel that after a few minutes the blood flow is pretty maximised, and there's less to be gained from long duration sessions. 5 minutes a day is still 2 hours/month but it's easier to fit that in while doing other activities, or if choosing the lying down approach then doing it first thing in the morning and last thing at night would suit it well.
My next protocol is exciting! I didn't want to start too many new things because you wouldn't know what was actually effective, but the derma-rolling and topical solution fit nicely together and supplements are a simple addition to my breakfast. I will consider moving to a longer needle if results are underwhelming, but doing this once a week is a welcome change from the higher frequency protocols.
I should note that I film these videos using an intense light (you can see it reflected in my pupils) and while demonstrating the scalp massage my scalp was very visible. My hair loss isn't quite at that stage yet under natural light so there's no deception going on with my progress pictures.

I started losing my hair at 18. Went to see a trichologist who confirmed mpb. This was in the 1980s. Read as much as I could on the subject and started massaging my scalp every day . I never lost anymore hair up to the age of 50 but the hair strands did thicken. After the age of 50 I suffered from extreme clinical depression and lost my motivation for life. I stopped massaging my scalp and the rest of my hair dropped out. Pulled myself out of depression after 10 years although have bipolar and embarked on 2 hair transplants . Best money I spent and am now doing the massaging again. If you massage the back of your head you will notice the skin is loose and flexible whereas the crown and temple not as much. For me the most important thing is to make sure that your crown and temples are as flexible as the back of your head. It’s very hard to regrow hair back. However, the earlier you start massaging the more chance you have got to fill in the gaps. Massage your scalp every day for the rest of your life if you still have some hair or have had a hair transplant. You don’t need to obsess too much

I started noticing it on myself recently after seeing a picture of me with my hair pulled back and appalled. Among everything else I have to worry about I never thought hair loss would be another thing on my list. I know this video is old already but I'm hoping you've posted an update with positive results.

This is my successful routine: 1- Dermaroller once a week at first and every ten days after some weeks of use (avoiding collagen fibrosis round the follicles and creating growth factors). 2- Electric head massage device for relaxing front-occipital and parietal muscles (avoiding aponeurotic galea tension). 3- Applying Aloe Vera (vehicle) mixed with lemon juice and some drops of Piperita mint oil for inactivating enzyme 5-alpha reductase (acid surrounding is not beared). I had a bit of shedding effect at first, but two months later it looks much better and I expect the best results on December. Blessings

    • @dimistepa

@@riperboyxl3216 , the 5-alpha reductase enzyme is the responsible for making DHT from T. And as we know it, the more DHT on the derme of our heads, the more hair loss we will have. Finasteride works blocking the 5-alpha reductase.

So awesome to see that you are attempting different methods for hair regrowth brotha, I'm only 35 and have been working on this myself for 4 years now by attempting a number of methods. My balding started about 6 years ago I wanna say and I'm not ready to give up. My baldness is a little worse than yours I'd say but not too far off.
So far I have tried the supplement by hairtamin, finasteride, minoxodil, rogaine, a hairmax laser comb, shampoo with essential oils, caffeine shampoo. Currently, I'm attempting an essential oil blend of rosemary, lavender, ylang ylang, and peppermint (5 drops of each in a 30ml bottle) with jajoba oil which I've been doing for almost 6 months now and I'm taking magnesium daily which I started about 2 months ago. I attempted other methods for roughly 4-6 months and did the laser comb for about 9 months. No results yet from my current method but did notice some regrowth with the laser comb on my vertex and no results noticed at all from the other methods. Let's keep on pushing and see if we can figure this out!

    • @9to5strength
      @9to5strength  2 года назад +2

Hey, interesting with the laser comb. Laser therapy wasn't suggested by anyone in the comments but perhaps it's relatively new. I got approached by iRestore who wanted to send me a low level light therapy helmet to try out for hair growth and that was the first I'd heard of it.
Do you get much tingling from the oil blend? I've been bumping my peppermint oil and I'm up to 16 drops because the recommended concentration felt too low

How does the combination of cost and side effects of minoxidil rule it out? You can get a 3 month supply of minoxidil for 15 pounds, and you don't even have to use it twice per day. If you use it only once, it is still quite effective and it costs 2.5 pounds per month. Also when it comes to side effects, it seems to have a very safe profile. For me a sustainable protocol would be: minoxidil once per day, dermaroller 1mm once per week, 2% ketoconazole shampoo once every 2-3 days, with massaging while showering, and laser hat (5 mins daily while pooping :)). For those who want to go the extra mile, maybe topical finasteride of .01% (mixed with minoxidil) or 0.2 mg oral can be reasonable. I also think hair transplant is quite cost effective.

    • @9to5strength
      @9to5strength  2 года назад +3

It was the idea that it only works as long as you're paying for it, so you're tying yourself in to a lifetime contract essentially. I just ordered finasteride yesterday and will be taking 0.25mg daily so I'm coming round to the idea of paying a small fee every few months. Interesting with the frequencies you mention, I've been using Nizoral once a week and 1mm dermaroller every 2 weeks. The laser hat was offered to me in exchange for a video about it but by the time I saw the email the offer had passed.

Can somewhat agree with the number one results.
I have been adding a bit of peppermint oil to both relive scalp tension and eventual hairloss for a few months now by mixing it in with my conditioner, and once a month or so give it a mixture of locally made olive oil and peppermint oil for a full on massage. I'm noticing a lot less hairfall and significantly less scalp pain/irritation, call it placebo if you will but it works for me.
Only advice is don't buy cheap shit from India as that's diluted as all hell.

My own theory on this is with stuff like massage/needling, if the trauma is low then the frequency needs to be high, and these two aspects have a correlation. Change one, change t'other.

    • @9to5strength

Good video overall well explained and straight to the point. I would say however that a dermapen is much superior to a dermaroller, I understand it comes across as quite expensive however the quality has nothing to do with a roller, it is hard if not impossible to puncture your scalp consistently with a roller, if you use 0.5mm you are lucky if you get 0.2 or 0.3mm of perforation depth with research pointing out the sweet spot being around 0.6-1.5mm (I use 1mm personally), on top of that they can be a bit dangerous as they wear out and damage your skin/scalp.

Hey! Looking forward to seeing the update video on this if any of this works!!
It's a shame you didn't try minoxidil, from what I have read side effects are quite rare and limited (you can always stop if it does cause any skin irritation etc), and it doesn't need to be expensive, they say you need to use it twice a day, but I read a lot of people saying they only use it once a day as the half life of the active compound is 20 - 22 hours, it can be low as $/£15 a month for a bottle (which will last 2 months if using just once a day), and I'm sure that's cheaper than all the other supplements / oils you mentioned in this video?
But fingers crossed you're getting good results also! I think for the derma roller if you want to see regrowth you need to go longer than 0.5, at least 1.0 I think? Maybe you can do that just on the temples to see if you get some regrowth.

Massage is best done little and often, I tried 20 minutes every few days but my best hair thickness was from 5 minutes/day. It's not considered one of the major fixes for hair loss (Nizoral, Dermarolling, Finasteride, Minoxidil) but a lot of people I've spoken too feel like it's beneficial.

great video . I went to your website and I read article about supplement . in my option , supplement helps increasing the level of Testosterone and this testosterones convert to DHT that causes hair loss. removing's supplement should add to your list .

I've been updating more frequently in this article 9to5strength.com/hair-growth-self-experiments/ I was using the equivalent of 0.1mg topical finasteride per day for ~150 days and I'm clearly losing more at the crown, so I've switched once again to Rosemary Oil with a Castor Oil base.

I share some stuff in the Community tab on my channel. I did 12 weeks with the 0.5mm derma and wanted to do another 12 weeks with a 1mm, so I'm currently at the end of week 9 with the 1mm. I'm struggling to get consistent lighting for my progress pics but from looking in the mirror it does feel like it's having an effect.

    Hi,
First of all, kudos to your effort and thanks for the video.
The scalp massage u did was suppose to be 40 minutes a day (20 morning and 20 evening) so that will be around 280 mins per week. You only did 60 mins in total ..
That won't give you any result, sir ..
You are waiting and giving so many weeks for the treatment; you should have gone all out and given your best, isn't it???
I hope you follow actual massage protocol and continue with new underlined experiments to see where you land up because in the end you would also really like to see some results, yea.
    Take care ...
