  • A robot developed by EPFL researchers is capable of reacting on the spot and grasping objects with complex shapes and trajectories in less than five hundredths of a second.

    My friends comment "Cool. Now they can add robot arms to our car. If someone gets to close, the arm can be like 'Whoa, back off'". She doesn't want a self driving car, she just wants one that can road rage for her.

      You should already be watching those. Hockey at least. Why would you watch if the save rate would be 100% every game? That'd get boring real quick.

    notice the very first application she notes is "catching people..."(from running, or swinging something)... "who are in danger, of falling"
    ...or getting away.

      A new energy source can replace fossil fuels and create unlimited drinking water with desalination. I think a new energy source is more likely than a nuclear war.

    Sure except, unlike reality, you have passive tracking markers on all the objects. I always thought people should have IR reflectors bolted to their skulls at birth just for this purpose.

    Good! Now make it work with two cameras, no sensors on the objects being thrown and working with "body hair", that is ambient air movement sensors.

      Screw body hair. Internal RADAR would be far superior to sensors that use sight, touch or hearing.

    Heym a good ideia. play 2 ball throght the robot of diferent colors. And them tell the robot to grab only the object of the specific color. After that update to grab only specific objects/shapes

    Great work! However there is another challenge with this project to make it a practical application: positioning of the objects. In these videos, they are using Motion Capture System for positioning, and it is available only in special labs. In real-world, there is no such system.

    I can only imagine how fast that kuka robot is. I run a kuka robot for the use of laser cladding and I can make the robot move 200 meter per second!!! So imagine how fast that little bot can move... wow great job guys.
