Hi Jenny (from another Jenny, but in Australia), I'm guessing you probably won't see my comment as this tutorial was made 7 years ago, but I wanted to acknowledge what a great teacher and fabulous person you are. I haven't dkne any sewing for 40 years, but you have inspired me to have a go at making a tote (and a zippered pouch I watched you make in another of your tutorials), and some project bags for my crocheting and knitting projects. My sewing machine died 40 years ago, so I am hoping my late grandmother's sewing machine still works. It's almost 50 years old so fingers crossed lol. I absolutely love your long tutorials, so thankyou for being you, and helping me through my 'blue days'. Big hugs from me to you xxxx
I don't think they read the comments Jenny B. But I did 😊. I'm working on some tote bags myself and it's always great to get some tips and a refresher course- visual. I hope today isn't a blue day for you.🙏🩷🤗🇨🇦
I found, in making this project, if you use interfacing on the pockets before you sew it together, it makes the pocket a big sturdier. LOVE, LOVE this tutorial. Matter of fact, I love all of Jenny's tutorials. Have learned so much.
I did it !!! i made one !!! i am so very proud of me !!! You are an AMAZING TEACHER !! thanks for spending 2 days with me... because i kept putting you on pause ...LOL
I had seen this before and thought why make one so big. Now I belong to a quilt guild, and what a great bag to use for workshops and outings. Will hold my cutting mat and pressing board and fabric - everything I'll need. I think I'll make a couple inside pockets too for my rulers and things. Thanks Jenny. Your videos are the greatest.
Hi Jenny, I just finished making this big bag with a Batik Jelly roll. It turned out beautiful! 😍 A couple of steps I noticed were missing in making this bag was the bottom sewing across do the pockets added. The other step missed was to square cornering off the bag liner bag at corners as well to fit even inside, otherwise it’s going to bulk at the corners. Love how my first bag turned out!😊❤ Thank you so much for your wonderful and appreciated teachings🤗 I am and have been a dedicated follower of your videos for years. Your amazing!🤗❤️
I am a beginner and I made this tote for my granddaughter for her birthday. I made a couple miner errors but overall I felt proud of the overall project. Thank you for taking your time with us by making these tutorials. You make everything look so easy and fun and love your humour.
Jenny Great tutorial on making this easy bag. The directions were simple and I can follow along. I will be making a lot of these bags. Using jelly roll strips. I learned something new today Thank you.
Your instructions are so easy to follow. I love your laugh, and the way you say be careful and don’t cut your bag, or make sure your cutting mat doesn’t have fabric underneath the piece you are cutting. It makes me think this is something you may have done. I know I have to remind myself to slow down or I will get careless and end up having to redo something. Thank you so much!
Don't be afraid to use the decorative stitches you have on your machine! Yes, it takes a little bit longer, but it really adds a special something that is all you to the bag! I did that on my bag and I always have people asking me where I got my bag and when they find out I made it, they ask me if I can make one for them. :-)
I'm thinking of making one of these up today. still need to make a diaper bag for my daughter but after talking to Her yesterday I thought I'd make something beautiful just for Her, She has about 3 weeks until Her due date with Her 1st baby & the poor girl is soo big it is not easy to get comfortable. She isn't complaining but I remember well how that felt so I'm going to spend today making her some useful pretties, starting with this great bag! Love how the hardest thing about Your tutorials is breaking open those wonderful pre-cuts. Thanks for sharing another great pattern : )
I absolutely love watching your videos, love your "doesn't have to be perfect...it's not going to matter" attitude! Folks who get all bent out of shape over every little thing, there's only their way to do things & any other way is wrong are exhausting & just suck all the fun out of, well, everything. Please don't ever change!
Hi Jenny, I have made and given away over 550 masks and I needed a break, so I made your bag out of my extra Cardinal fabric so when baseball starts back up, I will be ready. It was a great video and so easy to follow. I love your tutorials and have made many jelly roll quilts for my family. Thanks again!!
Jenny you are just brilliant love your tutorials You really are a lovely pleasant lady so easy to listen to and understand Thank you so much for taking time out to teach us all
I am smiling! It's like watching myself sew....I LOVE the fact that there is someone else out there that can "fly by the seat of their pants" while sewing... so much FUN!!! Hugs, GB
Oh my goodness!!! You are the best!!! I made a few mistakes along the way...like the strap got caught. but i fixed it. And I didn't realize i had to sew the bottom of the pocket to the bag LOL. I only realized this when the bag was done! But I was able to fix that too. Thank you so much!!!!! Love my bag!!!
So great love it used to quilt never great but loved making them lost my home in a fire and stopped for 8 years just started back and have to start over your channel helps me so much makes me happy that even if it’s not perfect its ok thanks so much
I became hooked on these before Christmas and have 17 of them! Five I made with pre-quilted fabric. Jenny, your videos are wonderful! In the last month I've also made two quilt tops using your tutorials: Emerald Isles using batiks and a five & dime using Moda's Oak Haven line. Definitely will make more of your patterns!
You make everything look easy. I did make six of your big totes and gave them away as gifts. I am going to make more, thanks for being there to teach me.
Barbara, thanks for the tip. I have my handles and outer bag made. Too tired to finish it tonight, but hoping to do it soon. I will be making more in the future. Than k you, Jenny Doan for the wonderful tutorials! I am using up my stash, and have plans for using up the rest. Then, I can justify buying more fabric :)
I just love watching Jenny. She makes every thing she does seem to be easy enough for everyone to accomplish and ....and she shows us how to do our own. I love her enthusiasm while she works as well. Thanks Jenny!
So glad I found this easy big bag to make. It was great making it. So happy this video is still there to follow. It was a great way to learn to do this. And I put my monograms on the outside pockets with my embroidery sewing machine. I love it.
Jenny; I have seen this video a little while ago, and recently I tried to make the same bag, less the pocket , Sadly my materials that I chose were not enough to be full length as yours, but using the same method except for length I made and fastened in the bag, when I made the inside piece I wanted the overlap of inside material to be sewn in at top and folded down, for a look I wanted, silly aye? After that was done I sewed in handles several lines for the firm handle. For a first-ever quilted bag, I am happy. But you inspire me to do well. I will do 2 more to use for shopping. I am happy I can go to youtube and watch your videos to keep learning. You are so patient and kind. Thank you for all you do to help me and others. Jean one of your millions of fans.
Jenny , thank you so much for showing us how to make the Big Bag-this was my first ever project, after getting my first ever sewing machine for x-mas... I am very proud-it's not perfect .. but I will make many more.......... Thank you x
FANTASTIC Jenny. Finally a bag big enough for all my stuff. I see many of these rolling off my machine. Thank you for all of your elegant work. Spyder, from New Jersey
I love the bags made from charm packs and can hardly wait to try this jelly roll idea Thanks for all the new sewing projects for gifts for my friends. They love homemade gifts
Great tutorial! A woman after my own heart. Get it done!! Very clear instructions and wonderfully done. I love that you provide options for the sewist to make it their own and allow for those of is who love a nice a looking product, but also love short cuts! Thank you!!
Thanks for all your tutorials! I just finished making this bag as a gift for my sister-in-law. I put inside pockets as well as outside pockets. I also added 3 snaps at the top to close it. I loved it! I will definitely be making more.
Thank you. I’m making three, two done. Having a weekend getaway to the lake with two girlfriends and we will each have a beach bag. Decided to place pockets inside on lining. Sewed in a compartment for glasses. That’s 😎. I had a jelly roll bought online and didn’t like it in person. Too much metallic for a baby quilt, but it makes a fab bag. Thanks for the tip about shortening the straps. One friend is 4’10” and that bag would be dragging. ❤️
I am a bag lover!!! And to get three bags out of one Jelly Roll makes Barb a happy girl! I absolutely love each and every one of your tutorials. I have learned so much. Thank you so much Jenny!
Great project to make during quarantine and reduce my ever-growing stash LOL.I did a lot of embroidery and beadwork on the front pocket. Turned out fab and so much nicer on the grocery run than those big plastic bags. Thank you for uploading. Your enthusiasm is infectious!
I love it. I am making 4. With a jelly roll that has sewing machines etc. to get 4 out of the jelly roll I added two solid strips to each set. The first on turned out great.
Jenny I love these. I made eight for my sisters for Christmas. I got 5 from a jelly roll. I made them a lot smaller than yours but I got wiser as I went along, and the piece I cut off after I sewed all the strips together I used for the pocket. It was brilliant. They were loved by everyone. Wish I could include a photo.
I have made these for all the sisters in my family, they love them and always request another, I save my worn out cutting mats and cut them to size, cover them with the extra pocket fabric and it sits nicely in the bottom of the bag for more support, thanks for this great tutorial!
What an awesome teacher you are Jenny. I've been watching your tutorials for few years now and have made many of your projects. Love you, love your sense of humor, love your company and the daily deals. I am most happy when I am doing one of your projects. I am up to my sewing room to make this wonderful large bag right now. ❤️😊
I went last night to a new quilt shop that opened in my area and bought two jelly rolls and fabric to make one of these fantastic bags. I went to a quilting retreat last weekend and a bag like this would be really handy to carry my supplies! Thanks for the great tutorial!

Just finished my first Jelly Roll Bag! I used Stonehenge by Northcott, Stonehenge Metallic Rich Reds, Greens and Golds. I think it is Beautiful first bag. I did do some things differently. Thankful, for the Missouri Quilt Tutorial. It really inspired me. Thank-you so much Jenny!
Jenny I'd like to thank you for getting me back in the groovy of sewing again. My second project had me so overwhelmed I dropped sewing for over a year. Jenny, I love your tutorials...you have the most clear directions with an added touch of humor. I could watch these all day long (if I had the time!) Thank you for giving me sooooo many ideas :)
When I make my bags, I leave the opening at the top. Then when I turn it inside out, I fold the opening down to the same size as the seam and it totally disappears when I stitch around the top of the bag and looks very finished. I will definitely make some of these charm square bags.
The bags are great! I'll have to try them. P.S. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see a wedding ring quilt from Missouri Star like the one behind your sewing machine in this video! Whether it's easy or not, your videos are easy to follow!
