I found, in making this project, if you use interfacing on the pockets before you sew it together, it makes the pocket a big sturdier. LOVE, LOVE this tutorial. Matter of fact, I love all of Jenny's tutorials. Have learned so much.

Hi Jenny (from another Jenny, but in Australia), I'm guessing you probably won't see my comment as this tutorial was made 7 years ago, but I wanted to acknowledge what a great teacher and fabulous person you are. I haven't dkne any sewing for 40 years, but you have inspired me to have a go at making a tote (and a zippered pouch I watched you make in another of your tutorials), and some project bags for my crocheting and knitting projects. My sewing machine died 40 years ago, so I am hoping my late grandmother's sewing machine still works. It's almost 50 years old so fingers crossed lol. I absolutely love your long tutorials, so thankyou for being you, and helping me through my 'blue days'. Big hugs from me to you xxxx
I don't think they read the comments Jenny B. But I did 😊. I'm working on some tote bags myself and it's always great to get some tips and a refresher course- visual. I hope today isn't a blue day for you.🙏🩷🤗🇨🇦
I had seen this before and thought why make one so big. Now I belong to a quilt guild, and what a great bag to use for workshops and outings. Will hold my cutting mat and pressing board and fabric - everything I'll need. I think I'll make a couple inside pockets too for my rulers and things. Thanks Jenny. Your videos are the greatest.
Hi Jenny, I just finished making this big bag with a Batik Jelly roll. It turned out beautiful! 😍 A couple of steps I noticed were missing in making this bag was the bottom sewing across do the pockets added. The other step missed was to square cornering off the bag liner bag at corners as well to fit even inside, otherwise it’s going to bulk at the corners. Love how my first bag turned out!😊❤ Thank you so much for your wonderful and appreciated teachings🤗 I am and have been a dedicated follower of your videos for years. Your amazing!🤗❤️
Jenny, my grand kids comes over for the summer, that big bag will hold every thing, love it.
I am a beginner and I made this tote for my granddaughter for her birthday. I made a couple miner errors but overall I felt proud of the overall project. Thank you for taking your time with us by making these tutorials. You make everything look so easy and fun and love your humour.
I'm thinking of making one of these up today. still need to make a diaper bag for my daughter but after talking to Her yesterday I thought I'd make something beautiful just for Her, She has about 3 weeks until Her due date with Her 1st baby & the poor girl is soo big it is not easy to get comfortable. She isn't complaining but I remember well how that felt so I'm going to spend today making her some useful pretties, starting with this great bag! Love how the hardest thing about Your tutorials is breaking open those wonderful pre-cuts. Thanks for sharing another great pattern : )
I made my first Jelly Roll Bag and gave it to my daughter for her birthday. She absolutely loves it! Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorials
Jenny you are a total inspiration. Thank you x
I am making the 3 totes for my 2 girls and myself. Wonderful pattern and of amazing helpful teacher. Thank you so much
I became hooked on these before Christmas and have 17 of them! Five I made with pre-quilted fabric. Jenny, your videos are wonderful! In the last month I've also made two quilt tops using your tutorials: Emerald Isles using batiks and a five & dime using Moda's Oak Haven line. Definitely will make more of your patterns!
JENNY,JENNY, U just too much, GOD BLESS U and your family., i love making bags and i always get great tips from u. thank u very, very, much.
Jenny Great tutorial on making this easy bag. The directions were simple and I can follow along. I will be making a lot of these bags. Using jelly roll strips. I learned something new today Thank you.
So great love it used to quilt never great but loved making them lost my home in a fire and stopped for 8 years just started back and have to start over your channel helps me so much makes me happy that even if it’s not perfect its ok thanks so much
I did it !!! i made one !!! i am so very proud of me !!! You are an AMAZING TEACHER !! thanks for spending 2 days with me... because i kept putting you on pause ...LOL
Oh my goodness!!! You are the best!!! I made a few mistakes along the way...like the strap got caught. but i fixed it. And I didn't realize i had to sew the bottom of the pocket to the bag LOL. I only realized this when the bag was done! But I was able to fix that too. Thank you so much!!!!! Love my bag!!!
Jenny you are just brilliant love your tutorials You really are a lovely pleasant lady so easy to listen to and understand Thank you so much for taking time out to teach us all
Jenny; I have seen this video a little while ago, and recently I tried to make the same bag, less the pocket , Sadly my materials that I chose were not enough to be full length as yours, but using the same method except for length I made and fastened in the bag, when I made the inside piece I wanted the overlap of inside material to be sewn in at top and folded down, for a look I wanted, silly aye? After that was done I sewed in handles several lines for the firm handle. For a first-ever quilted bag, I am happy. But you inspire me to do well. I will do 2 more to use for shopping. I am happy I can go to youtube and watch your videos to keep learning. You are so patient and kind. Thank you for all you do to help me and others. Jean one of your millions of fans.
I realllllly loved that bag. thanks for sharing.
Your instructions are so easy to follow. I love your laugh, and the way you say be careful and don’t cut your bag, or make sure your cutting mat doesn’t have fabric underneath the piece you are cutting. It makes me think this is something you may have done. I know I have to remind myself to slow down or I will get careless and end up having to redo something. Thank you so much!
I absolutely love watching your videos, love your "doesn't have to be perfect...it's not going to matter" attitude! Folks who get all bent out of shape over every little thing, there's only their way to do things & any other way is wrong are exhausting & just suck all the fun out of, well, everything. Please don't ever change!
You make everything look so simple to do. Wish I could sew as quickly as you do.
You made this look SO easy AND IT WAS!!!! Totally making MORE!!!!
i made 7 charm paks tote bags your instructions are the greatest
I love the handles going all the way around! Stronger, and you can put the pocket on!
I'm use to making dresses for people and now me and my boss are making this together. Thank you so much. You're awesome teacher.
So glad I found this easy big bag to make. It was great making it. So happy this video is still there to follow. It was a great way to learn to do this. And I put my monograms on the outside pockets with my embroidery sewing machine. I love it.
You are very funny to see and hear and sooo talented thank you very much Happy New year
Thank you mam you showed us such an easy way to cut & to put it together. Thanks for sharing.
I just finished mine. Thanks for this tutorial. I made me a beach bag. You and your company are great.
the way you do the handles is just genius!
Jenny youre a legend ... you explain everything so clearly without raving on, just like you were in our house.
I LOVE this. Such a quick and easy gift! Don't know of anyone who would not be happy to get one!
We agree, Amy! The perfect gift for most anyone.
I love it. I am making 4. With a jelly roll that has sewing machines etc. to get 4 out of the jelly roll I added two solid strips to each set. The first on turned out great.
Thanks for this tutorial. ❤ I just finished one for my sister’s Christmas present.
Barbara, thanks for the tip. I have my handles and outer bag made. Too tired to finish it tonight, but hoping to do it soon. I will be making more in the future. Than k you, Jenny Doan for the wonderful tutorials! I am using up my stash, and have plans for using up the rest. Then, I can justify buying more fabric :)
Gorgeous! Thank you Jenny!
Don't be afraid to use the decorative stitches you have on your machine! Yes, it takes a little bit longer, but it really adds a special something that is all you to the bag! I did that on my bag and I always have people asking me where I got my bag and when they find out I made it, they ask me if I can make one for them. :-)
Just made it! Awesome tutorial
Jenny , thank you so much for showing us how to make the Big Bag-this was my first ever project, after getting my first ever sewing machine for x-mas... I am very proud-it's not perfect .. but I will make many more.......... Thank you x
Thank you. I’m making three, two done. Having a weekend getaway to the lake with two girlfriends and we will each have a beach bag. Decided to place pockets inside on lining. Sewed in a compartment for glasses. That’s 😎. I had a jelly roll bought online and didn’t like it in person. Too much metallic for a baby quilt, but it makes a fab bag. Thanks for the tip about shortening the straps. One friend is 4’10” and that bag would be dragging. ❤️
You make everything look easy. I did make six of your big totes and gave them away as gifts. I am going to make more, thanks for being there to teach me.
Great tutorial - Jenny is a terrific speaker and teacher. Thanks!
Hi Jenny, I have made and given away over 550 masks and I needed a break, so I made your bag out of my extra Cardinal fabric so when baseball starts back up, I will be ready. It was a great video and so easy to follow. I love your tutorials and have made many jelly roll quilts for my family. Thanks again!!
I just love watching Jenny. She makes every thing she does seem to be easy enough for everyone to accomplish and ....and she shows us how to do our own. I love her enthusiasm while she works as well. Thanks Jenny!
Love to make these for kids for christmas, boy will my girls be thrilled.
Thanks for all your tutorials! I just finished making this bag as a gift for my sister-in-law. I put inside pockets as well as outside pockets. I also added 3 snaps at the top to close it. I loved it! I will definitely be making more.
Hi Jenny
Great pattern, I am on to my third bag. The last one I made I turned it inside out and guess what I saw beneath the batting? Two pins and I thought, Toni don't you ever listen to Mumma Jenny about checking out for pins left in before you sew it together. LOL. I pulled the pins out with pliers and pushed the yellow tops out through the opening at the top of the bag.
Thank you for yet another easy peasy pattern T
These will make gifts for my crafting family!! Thanks Jenny!!
Getting ready to make the 2nd Big Bag. First one turned out GREAT!
A good fun tutorial. I am in the process of making these three bags with your help.
I really love your bags there's so beautiful. 😎
Jenny you are my therapist. I love you. And your daughter Natalie is just the sweetest.
Just finished my first Jelly Roll Bag! I used Stonehenge by Northcott, Stonehenge Metallic Rich Reds, Greens and Golds. I think it is Beautiful first bag. I did do some things differently. Thankful, for the Missouri Quilt Tutorial. It really inspired me. Thank-you so much Jenny!
Great tutorial! A woman after my own heart. Get it done!! Very clear instructions and wonderfully done. I love that you provide options for the sewist to make it their own and allow for those of is who love a nice a looking product, but also love short cuts! Thank you!!
Just love all your bag ideas‼️👏🏼😉
I still love this tutorial!!
I already made similar bags from Jelly Rolls but and added pockets to the linings, I used your other video on making bags from charm squares and just substituted Jelly Rolls but put the handles inside, they will be much stronger and support the pockets on the outside much better, they were appreciated when I sent them to Winnipeg. I am also going to Florida, escaping our snow and cold weather in Ottawa and will make one for my mom, sister and myself. They can put beach stuff in it or it appears to be strong enough for a shopping bag which my daughter here wants me to make her grocery bags so I may use a variation of this one too, so off to sewing, may make extra for others in Florida too as my mom and sister have lots of friends. Now to figure out what to make for the men.
You've been busy Colleen! Love it!
I made one today! I made it 8 strips wide instead of 12 (I'm TINY) and it's just adorable!
Your tutorials are great, I could watch you all day, you make sewing so much fun Fabulous bags I am going to make some for my granddaughters.
Barb don 🚗
Wonderful. Thank you
LUV THIS...I MADE 4 FOR FRIENDS!! GREAT GIFT IDEA!! THNX JENNY!!!
I went last night to a new quilt shop that opened in my area and bought two jelly rolls and fabric to make one of these fantastic bags. I went to a quilting retreat last weekend and a bag like this would be really handy to carry my supplies! Thanks for the great tutorial!
Great project to make during quarantine and reduce my ever-growing stash LOL.I did a lot of embroidery and beadwork on the front pocket. Turned out fab and so much nicer on the grocery run than those big plastic bags. Thank you for uploading. Your enthusiasm is infectious!
I am smiling! It's like watching myself sew....I LOVE the fact that there is someone else out there that can "fly by the seat of their pants" while sewing... so much FUN!!! Hugs, GB
I could watch you do these turorials all day!!!!!!
Those bag looks fantastic!
That was presented so well, easy to understand every step. Just what I was after too. Fantastic, thank you so much.
I have made these for all the sisters in my family, they love them and always request another, I save my worn out cutting mats and cut them to size, cover them with the extra pocket fabric and it sits nicely in the bottom of the bag for more support, thanks for this great tutorial!
Using your worn cutting mats is a great idea, Rhonda! Those are some lucky ladies.
When I make my bags, I leave the opening at the top. Then when I turn it inside out, I fold the opening down to the same size as the seam and it totally disappears when I stitch around the top of the bag and looks very finished. I will definitely make some of these charm square bags.
Jenny I'd like to thank you for getting me back in the groovy of sewing again. My second project had me so overwhelmed I dropped sewing for over a year. Watching this video on how easy projects can be got me back into the game. I'm finally finishing my second project and going to make this tote and two zipper pouches (from your other vids) matching. And the machine pad! I have enough scraps after two projects to make that cute pad. So from me to you Jenny of Missouri Star. Thank you.
First bag I've ever made. Turned out cute. Thank you for the video. I never would have been able to without it 😊.
Thank you!!! I finished it. New to sewing and even newer to quilting. Videos help and I love how you say it’s ok if not straight lol.
i love the bag, i like the colours of winter now. i think i will try this afternoon, thank you
When I Make My bags, I Leave The OPENING to turn it at the top. After completing, I turn right side out and iron the opening close at the top. Tnen I topstitch all around the top. Looks professional
the best tutorials ever. Thanks Jenny
I love this bag..have made a couple for gifts...I added velcro between the handles so it can be closed....
FANTASTIC Jenny. Finally a bag big enough for all my stuff. I see many of these rolling off my machine. Thank you for all of your elegant work.
Spyder, from New Jersey
Thank you so much i have made dozens of these bags everbody loves them your a great teacher
I just completed my bag, and love it. I agree the bags will make a cute Christmas gift.
Very cool project! Thanks for sharing
Thank YOU!
Love it! The colors were just right!
I love the longer tutorials where everything is explained! Thanks so much.
That's good feedback. Thanks for letting us know!!
I made one of these with 16 strips instead of 12. added zipper pockets to the inside. Great beach bag-holds 5 large towels, water shoes, sunscreen etc. Was hoping to show a picture but I don't see a way to add one. Great tutorial! Thanks for the idea!
Your video tutorials are timeless-and so are you, Jenny! 🥰
I checked the video date, because I knew from the studio set that you must have been made this a few years ago. I was shocked to see that it was made in 2013!
Thank you and your team for all that you do. I’m planning a camping trip west next June (2022), and have I already planned a route that will take me through Hamilton! So excited! 😁
Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
Thank you for teaching us quilting techniques that are so new and easy! Your site has become my bible for quilting, since I learned the old fashioned way of cutting each piece then sewing them all together by hand...ugh!
I wonder if I could make these bags without the batting for grocery store bags, since the store bought kind get expensive! Want to make fast and easy gifts. Love you guys!!! :)
I love big totes but this one I'd like to try with 9 strips instead of 12. It'll make a great market bag. Thanks for sharing, Jenny.
Oh Jenny you’re so amazing. Brilliant idea. Brilliant Big bags! Love them, thank you!
As a beginner to quilting I really enjoyed this tutorial - you made it look so simple. I hope to have a go ASAP. Many thanks.
I love you Jenny, these bags are so cute and you make it look so easy just like a pro, in fact you are a pro, im going to make one, thanks for all your videos
your instructions are superb i love the jelly roll tote bag i love your videos your a great instructor thank you so much you have given me so much confidence🌹🌷
such lovely bag. n u made it so easy
Jenny, I made this bag for my mom earlier this year. The colors were the same but a different line by moda bought from your store. I used your other bag tutorial to guide my way through. This looks like it might be easier. The only thing I didn't add was the pocket. I'm going to have to try that now. Thanks!
I am a bag lover!!! And to get three bags out of one Jelly Roll makes Barb a happy girl! I absolutely love each and every one of your tutorials. I have learned so much. Thank you so much Jenny!
This is so awesome, I cannot wait to make this bag...thank u so much for sharing you creativity...too amazing...
Love that she's leftie. You don't find as many left handed examples. The bags look great!

Jenny. You continue to make things easy and fun for us. I have never been interested in making a bag since I thought it would be too complex. ThAnks for pro ing otherwise. I am a forever fan of Missouri Star. Have seen you in person twice, have a subscription to Block magazine, love the "daily deals", and have your RUclips site on " favorites. Love what your family has done for that small.town too. My long-term goal is a trip to your new Retreat facility along with lots of local shopping. God bless you and your family .
What an awesome teacher you are Jenny. I've been watching your tutorials for few years now and have made many of your projects. Love you, love your sense of humor, love your company and the daily deals. I am most happy when I am doing one of your projects. I am up to my sewing room to make this wonderful large bag right now. ❤️😊
Love the bag and the pattern. Jenny, you are just great! I really love your tutorials! You are such a joy to me! Thank you!
