I made a small throw with 2 pillows for my son's camper. The family loved the 3 pieces, and it goes perfectly with their camper. I must say, the material was perfect
Added a topstitched extra strip as a tie closure and made a zipper pouch to clip onto the twill tape loop suggested by another viewer. This was a FANTASTIC project. Thanks, Rob!
I found that my strips were less wavy when I switched to a walking foot and also sewed the next strip on the opposite end. Thank you Rob! Keep making your videos!!!
Watched again so I had all the steps written down. I saw the color strata quilt hanging in the background. Found your tutorial on it and that's my next project.
Fabulous bag for almost $40. Will try it first with scraps, of which I have many. I'm sure I can come up with a reasonable facsimile Love the use of the zig-zag for strength.
i just finished this. It looks great. I strongly advise sewing the pieces as he shows, unless you like waves (ask me how I know?) The bag looks amazing. I took a viewers advice and added buttons to the flaps and added a closure flap with the left over strips, I had two, and made it look like the handle. I then made a small opening between two pieces to act as a button hole and placed a button on both sides to keep it reversible. It is a gift for someone who follows on Facebook so I can't send a picture.....yet. Thanks for this wonderful idea.
Beth Cooley I loved this bag. Thought haha I’d make 2 for my adult daughters. I’m almost finished sewing the strips and are they EVER WAVY 😳😡 Since you did too and said it looked fine....how did you finish it OR Do you not notice after completing??
Love this! I had bought a roll of 2-12 inch strips a while back and was not sure what I wanted to make with it, but now I do. After watching your video, I found my strips and started ironing them and tomorrow I hope to make the bag. TFS!
that is so neat.. I can not wait to try it. I have a male friend who has never quilted before, and he is wanting to learn how to. I sent him this video to watch. I told him it would be so easy for him to do, plus w/ the help of your video and any help I can give him I believe he will be fine. Love your videos :)
I am thinking Christmas presents. Who wouldn't want a bag like that? Thinking a bit out of the box, I could take the one side (no longer being reversible)and put laminate (the do it yourself is soooo much cheaper then purchasing fabric already laminated) over the fabric and I could use it as a great beach bag. Ideas are stirring. I truly enjoy your tutorials and look forward to them every week.
I am cheating and will use a bias tape maker (I plan on making lots of bags). I have been looking in my mail box every day waiting for it to come. I will use a 2" one and most of the stores don't carry it and neither does MSQC (the first place I looked). I will post a picture when I finish my bag. I fluff up like a proud peacock when I make something and can't wait to show it off especially to people who appreciate the time and effort.
I just finished mine with a couple of tweaks (because I never follow directions exactly). I sewed my strips in pairs first with open sides facing then in pairs again and again until it was all sewn together. I also did my handles differently, more like a fabric grocery sack. Thanks for getting me inspired.
Rob, I am going "camping" in my trailer this weekend. I am going to make this bag. Thank you sew much for this incredible video. Love you inspirations.
I love your videos. OK, so I'm a girl sewer, but hey you're great. You've inspired me to think out of the box. recently I made my man a tool roll and a cover for his ladders (they're very long) out of doubled over commercial grade weed control matting (hey it's fabric!) so that they get some weather protection and don't stick out. Thank you.
I have made two already, and it is awesome!! Love it a lot! The ironing not so much, it is kind of time consuming, but it is the only wayto do it. You make things different than the rest, I also made the quilt behind you!
I love this method of sewing and the options are endless, it would make some lovely place mats using scraps! thank you for sharing Rob , I always look forward to your videos.
Hi Rob, great bag and great method! I encase a dollar store cutting mat (plastic) in fabric to match - cut to the size of bottom of the bag to give more stability to the bottom!
Rob to give you a tip about you triangle bottom pieces. Since your not cutting them, attach a button at the tip of the triangle on both sides of the bag. Now you have a reversible bag. Awesome bag Rob.
15:30 through 15:40 I go one step further and wrap the top piece of the selvage end underneath the tail end, it makes it look more finished rather than one binding just sitting on top of the other.
This bag is fabulous. I was going to do a different jelly roll bag, but now it will be this one for sure! Thanks for all the great videos. p.s. My nephew who is in the military is a fabulous sewer as well, and I love sharing your videos with him too
I'm so glad you like this bag, Beatrice! Thank you for tuning into the Man Sewing tutorials, and please send my thanks to your nephew for his service! Hope you are both working on some fun projects!
it's surprising and refreshing to see a rugged, manly, married man sewing totes, quilts, etc with great skill (no offense to anyone) just sayin'.. it's different from the norm. i'm a fan!
Hi Rob. Great bag! Love your creativity! Keep them coming. You have inspired me to buy my first jelly rolls, along with a cutting board and rotary cutter! I will work on an overlocker next, then maybe a quilter! So love my sewing.
There is a tool called the sasher. You can pick it up in multi sizes. Fold first inch then put through tool, pin to ironing board and run and sasher down the length of fabric. Comes from Australia.
Hi from New Zealand Rob. Another great tutorial with a technique I can't wait to try. I reckon that method would make a darn good & strong quilters bag with lots of pockets inside. Thank you
A lot of sewing machines have an overcast setting - use that for the side of the bag rather than a zig zag. Or if you have an overlocker a rolled hem might look nice in very tight satin stitch.
You should use a edge joining foot to keep the strips lined. When you use it you don't have to worry so much when sewing them together the just feed up in the join it perfect.
Adoro assistir vc costurando, mesmo não sabendo muito de inglês, consigo entender o processo das peças. Obrigado pelo carinho com que vc ensina. Ameiiiii
So strong and sturdy! Thx! You have inspired not only me, but my 13 yr old son. He just entered his second quilt in the county fair, and got 6th place!! Congrats on your 5 yrs as well. We are all works in progress!! Keep up the great work! Also, what are the final dimensions of the bag ? (I think I missed that. )
Love It! Your ideas are super! Can't wait to try this one with a little change it brought as an idea I want to try. I keep watching and look forward to your next video.
omg!!! you are really reading my mind!!! i love this video!!! you really helped with an idea for a project I'm working on!!! i cut and ironed my fabric and my next
step is to zig zag the strips ... I plan on making a hat but this was sooo helpful!!! thanks for reading my mind showing a way to finish the edge and the zig zag technique!!!
Rob..another great tutorial ..........suggestion..I just found out about the one block wonder...pattern...wowo they are gorgeous......maybe you could break it down and do a tutorial on it.....just saying.....lol thanks for all your work
Rob Keep up the good work. I love your show. here's an idea for a tutorial what about how to make our own design for a quilt like from our head to the paper then to purchase stage so and so I been very curious on this
Ok,I'm impressed. I thought of trying this many years ago, however I waited. Waited for someone to show me their system. Thank You.
I made a small throw with 2 pillows for my son's camper. The family loved the 3 pieces, and it goes perfectly with their camper. I must say, the material was perfect
That sounds like an awesome project, Jean!

Fantastic, Patricia! I hope you have tons of fun working on your Color Strata quilt!
Love that it's made out of a Jelly Roll! No cutting...some ironing and ready to sew!
Fabulous bag for almost $40. Will try it first with scraps, of which I have many. I'm sure I can come up with a reasonable facsimile Love the use of the zig-zag for strength.
Great idea, Susan! I'd love to see a picture of your finished project!
The possibilities are endless ! Thankyou Rob

Hi Rob I used this technique on a smaller scale to make a make up bag. It turned out lovely. Thank you
Love this! I had bought a roll of 2-12 inch strips a while back and was not sure what I wanted to make with it, but now I do. After watching your video, I found my strips and started ironing them and tomorrow I hope to make the bag. TFS!

Loved everything about it!
Almost forgot this hint I learned about binding, make sure bottom side is a 2 mm bigger, that way you never miss it when you sew on top
Tina Wemyss is
or visa versa, top 2mm bigger than bottom, which ever you prefer, learned it at a workshop and almost forgot, hahaha
So strong and sturdy! Thx! You have inspired not only me, but my 13 yr old son. He just entered his second quilt in the county fair, and got 6th place!! Congrats on your 5 yrs as well.
