Mitsubish done a recall on the gdi engine in japan from what i can see and never made it known to the public, They used to stick a GDI Club sticker on the recalled cars to be able to spot the ones that were recalled from the ones that wernt, Japanese people caught on and started sticking them on alot of other cars just to let them know they knew what they were doing. Stickers are worth good money now from what i read.
Thats such a cool bit of back story, I reckon these lads had a team called GDI for the laugh
That body filler tumor was mighty impressive! I hope in the future no matter how collectible a car may get there will still be people like you guys who build them exactly how you want without worrying about preserving value, these cars are something special!

I’m nearly sure I tried to buy the brown 86 back in 2010 in Dublin car sat for years unregistered if it’s the same one and I’m nearly sure the red screwdriver gear knob was in the brown car if so it’s definitely the one I tried to buy 😂

Oh man, I remember people going, "ah sure it's only for a bit a craic, just bought it to do rings when the Rally of the Lakes is on." And little did I know that road trip in 2009 went through a few open roads and youd come to a junction and there'd be black spaghetti on the road for miles!!

I believe Cashew sold EC works mirrors with their own ae86 specific base plates. I remember browsing their website back in the day.
Interesting to know, I got a set myself not too long ago, same deal with the wing mirror blanking plate for the 86 and the EC work drilled to it

I’ve heard about the GDI thing, Mitsubishi had that sticker on cars that came with the GDI engine as to say they are eco friendly and reliable, but it turned out to be a fraud and Mitsubishi faked and covered up alot of documents and lost alot of reputation in Japan, so the sticker became sort of a meme in the early 2000’s and people put them on their cars to say that they are shit 😂

I always wonder why didnt they put the 3.5 in the 4th spot and 4th in the 5th spot?
It's down to the gearbox design. 4th is a straight through gear ratio and can't be moved, 5th is the only removable gear on the OEM counter shaft

love you videos neil. just a thought. it would make the videos a whole lot better if you used clip mics for anyone talking. the audio levels fluctuate from your voice to anyone else speaking and its difficult to hear what they are saying.
True something id like to look into, most lads are awkward enough on camera as it is, micing them up might be a disaster
Im still afirm beliver u should paint urs dark purple like how u found it with the mismatch rims, i was gonna say u friends car looks exactly like urs when u found it but then u pointed out it was a dark brown/ root-beer color
I actually can’t stand that colour! It would be cool, but because I’ve put so much effort into the car, I’m going to paint it a colour that excites me. That purple colour reminds me of bad Ford Mondeos from the 1990s. And I’ve been staring at the mismatched colour for too long, it’s time for the car to start a new chapter ❤

Ive never understood saving a car for the next guy and not enjoying it. The 86 is a drivers car not a trailer queen. Id love to find one over here in Canada. Ive only seen 3 in my 37 years on this earth and ive been a car guy since high school
