A true step change product. I only got it a month ago and already I add it as the first plugin on every plucked instrument. The ability to process the Rythymic transients separately from the main tone means the instrument can be doing it's job in the mix immediately.
Patrick from Eventide here, All the songs from this commercial we're written by us at Eventide specifically for this commercial to showcase different genres! Thank you so much for the compliments :)
Can I use it just as a transient/tonal splitter by soloing them on parrallel channels and then do other things to those signals like saturation before leading them back together or is the solo funktion only usefull for pre hearing? So if I solo the transient on one and the tonal on the other and then lead those two signals back together, will it null with the original signal?
You may enjoy our Physion plug-in, which allows users to process the transient and tonal aspects of a signal separately with their own effects before bringing them back together. www.eventideaudio.com/plug-ins/physion/
The plugin is intended for mixing applications. the structural split engine at the heart of the transient/tonal separation is quite complex, and adds roughly 75ms of latency
I tried to install a demo. First of all it will not allow to install into specific folder so I end up with hunting for DLL files and moving them to the right folder. That is a bad start. Then when I tried it I could not get through DEMO activation. Support not helpful at all. Looks like a nice product screwed up from the beginning,....
Agreed - didn’t get anything useful from this video! I’ll wait for some more studious video run-throughs/tutorials before deciding whether or not I need yet another EQ plug-in.
Installed demo, activated ilok but Bitwig won't load either the vst2 or vst3. Weird as Bitwig isn't saying there's any errors, just doesn't allow it to be picked.
@@petermcculloch5899 Many thanks for the reply. It's resolved itself, I think it was probably an ilok issue because I just waited a couple of hours and Bitwig eventually allowed me to use the plugin. Pretty cool beans Eventide! Think it might be a late finish today haha!
Said it under the other video, will repeat it here: This looks/sounds amazing! Unfortunately there's EQ-cramping. That means when I use a bell and boost near 20k I don't get an actual-bellshape. The EQ-curve gets deformed on the side close to 20k. Once you fix this, this is an instant buy from me! I'm demoing it right now.
@@mirzaaljic well it sounds differently than a regular bell-curve, yes. This is most Obvious if you choose a rather wide Q and boost 6dB around 10k. Do it with an EQ that doesn't cramp (ProQ3 from Fabfilter or Equal from IKMultimedia for instance) and with one that cramps. Compare - you will hear the difference. Most engineers I know agree that cramping sounds worse, but that might also be due to our expectations. The curve doesn't get deformed AT 20k.. it gets deformed TOWARDS 20k, which is why it's audible.
Did you do the test yourself on plugin doctor? I was going to download it and do the exact same thing but if you've done it already it'll save me the bother!
@@greenenoiseaudio yes I have, however I suggest to still download it and play with it. I find it to be a great plugin aside from that. I just want the cramping to be fixed and being able to solo bands via holding rightclick on it or something like that would be extremely useful too, I don't like that I have to click on the little headphones. But it IS a great plugin. *edit* there IS an option to solo the bands by clicking Strg + Alt while clicking/dragging the EQ-nod.
@@akagerhard Yeah I plan to do so today. It's on sale until early January so I think I will hold off on buying it until then to see if they do fix this issue. So often, despite it being brought up, it's never actually dealt with.
Thought this was going to be one of those gimmicky plug-ins that could be done with a million other stock plugins, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Assuming the audio in the video is actually real, that is.
So is it Physion, but as an EQ? Is it using the same programming to separate the transients from the tonal elements? Or have you guys made updates to it?
Yes, of course. It’s just that recording live instruments presents the most challenges when thinking about corrective EQ. However, SplitEQ can be used to enhance content created ITB in the context of a full mix or to shape individual instruments.
It's also pretty great for working with loops. Willie Green's video gives a great breakdown of how he uses it to make samples shine. (Full disclosure that I work for Eventide, but it really is awesome for loops)
Hardly the exact same thing. The closet thing, the only plugin that uses this split technique is Physion which is a few years old. FWIW the technique was patented by us years ago so anyone who wants to try to imitate what we’ve done can just read the patent. I’m sure some have.
@@anthonyagnello3733 OK... not exactly the same - but a quick look shows your patent was applied for in 2017... a year after Sonible released Entropy and Proximity. Just sayin'.
@@mixphantom0101 to me the main thing is the interface. The way you can boost and cut transients and actual tone within Split is very different and a lot more intuitive, flexible and faster than in entropy. But I agree that there are similarities.. then again: You can do pretty similar things with a regular dynamic eq, as long as you really know how to use it - it's just a LOT more work and few people have the knowledge and experience to use a dynamic-eq (or anything really) to its full potential.
@@akagerhard I actually think it's a useful plugin... my issue is when companies herald their new plugins as if they've invented a new technology or claim "first of it's kind" when similar products already exist. I do a lot of audio restoration and have been using this technique for years using Melda's Tone/Transient crossover - I won't mention how else I use it as someone is likely to put a GUI on it and claim they invented it! 😁
Mainly, it’s a workflow adjustment. SplitEQ gives us multiple bands of spectral split where Physion can only do one. SplitEQ is meant for being as surgical as you could possible get with an EQ using this technique. Furthermore, the spectral split is more advanced on SplitEQ, though we are planning improvements to Physion in the future.
Great...another EQ plugin...I've got 50 already. I've even got another from probably 2 years ago that deals with transients separately. Nothing revolutionary at all. Wrong I was sooo wrong, and now I have this plugin. There are similar eqs out there, but not the same. Where Entropy works, this usually works in a different way, and vice versa. It's not one or the other. You won't need this for everything, but when you need it, man it works well.
@@bg4productions not sure which sample you mean, but they both do the same sort of thing but sounding completely different. Best way to see is to demo, that's what I did. But in short it's sort of this: entropy can only do one at a time, so either transient, or tonal, whereas spliteq can do both simultaneously, and it does so well. Entropy gives probably juicier boosts, but when pushing the transient, it thins out the sound. I guess spliteq is kind of more subtle, but more controllable. Probably not the most helpful answer, you're best off demoing and making up your own mind. I did, and decided to have both. I probably use spliteq more for its increased control, and ability to make bits poke out where I need without really changing the sounds much.
if some day dynamics section added for channels it would be 3d mixing machine like david gibson imagined at art of mixing. i think even know it might be except visuals . ruclips.net/video/nhKGIZ0CtfU/видео.html even some thay dynamics and coloration saturation section would added for all channels it can be like mixing on a machine like you can create 3d living visual shapes and holograms in a cubic space.
Maybe a great Plugin, but it hurts my eyes and I get headaches (weird), so much grey in one plugin is terrible. As great as it may be, I hope they refund that, had to stop using it after 2mins.
A number of plugin EQs have used transient shapers or other dynamic processing techniques to address the issues that SplitEQ is designed for. Transgressor is more similar than others but seems mainly designed for drums. It's great. We first saw Boz and Transgressor at NAMM 2017 I believe when we introduced Physion and talked about our Structural Split technology. SplitEQ doesn’t use a transient shaper or dynamics processing. There are no controls for attack, release, threshold, etc because they are not relevant. What’s new for an EQ is an advanced version of the structural split technology used in Physion. The audio signal, any audio signal, is completely split into two independent parts. There’s a lot of processing going on under the hood to make the split mimic how we hear and it’s lossless - if you combine the two parts, all of the original signal is restored. Does this fundamentally different approach matter? That’s up to users and we’re gratified by the response of those who’ve given it a try. Personally, the ability to spatialize a mono source by splitting it and panning the tonal part left and the transient part right feels new to me.
@@anthonyagnello3733I agree, as fantastic and useful as the split EQ is on tonal and transients, I think the actual gold is the spatial tonal and transient control alongside that split eq. No doubt similar results can be found chaing various plugins together, but to be able to position and place a sound so accurately either through control or experimentation is very important. I realised how much more space I could get as soon as I began using it on a few tracks and began sculpting. Impressive!
