I went to Kanchanaburi myself pal off the back of your review & having a beer with you in Siem Reap one eve. Absolutely glad I decided to as it was a wonderful experience, 3 nights on an epic journey & as you say by far the best destination to step back in time to see the sacrifices those brave men made in WW2. Thanks pal & as always stay safe brother. Mitch

I have been in Thailand for almost 28 years. Every year in winter for 4 months. 17 of those years in Kanchanaburi City. Since last year I have been living here permanently, having emigrated from my original homeland. I live not far from the famous bridge, 500 meters from the banks of the River Kwai. Even after such a long time, I still get a strange feeling when I am at my bridge or on the trail of the Japanese. Despite the famous bridge and the Death Route, Kanchanaburi is not very touristy. Bad for the Thais, good for me.... My wife (no, not Thai...) and I live a nice and good life here, even though the unspeakable past of the Japanese cruelty is omnipresent. Hitler was a real scumbag, no question about it. But he was a small number compared to what the Japanese did here (and everywhere during the war)....

Weary Dunlop the Australian surgeon operated without anesthetic more often than not (Little or none was available) He often suffered beatings from the Japanese just because he was the tallest around, he stood well over 6ft and dwarfed some of the guards.

The Park I think is not aswell know as the others around it however its essential to see because it tell more of the story of what they went through. The bravest of men.
