How to propagate philodendrons. All you need is: a philodendron (obviously!) a clean pair of scissors little cup or jar of water to put the cuttings in
Thank you so much, I have a philodendron that was a start from my late Grandma's plant and she was up to 14 leaves and I was terrified to try and propagate more leaves to make her full and bushy. But your video made it very easy and I feel a lot more confident now
I was at a market today and they had this pretty Philodendron. I’m poor right now so I stole a leaf with a node and I’m trying to water propagate it now 😅 wish me luck
Lmaooo, usually if the plant is older than a baby it won't really even harm it. Especially if u take a stringy, looking one it may benefit the plant to grow more fully, if you know how pruning can affect a plant!
She is! Some are like 3-4 feet at this point. Howeverrrr, I’m tempted to trim her back just so I can grow out some roots on the clippings and plant them on one side of the pot.
I have a huge philodendron that's a cutting from my grandmother and then mother's plant, which itself was a cutting of my great grandmothers plant from the 1960s!!! that's a 60 year old plant!!!
J Lottie that’s so cool! I got mine from a local petsore about a month ago for my chameleon, and it’s amazing! My chameleon will tear off its leaves sometimes but the plant still continues to grow. It’s amazing how strong and resilient they are
Will they propagate if they have no leaves on the vine? I just had to cut back my plant because there was sooooo much vine with no leaves. Currently I have the vines under about an inch of soil that is damp but I felt so bad cutting so much off 😆 🤣
I might be wrong but nodes are different from the roots right? As in roots grow out of the node. It's sometimes confusing when terms are used on multiple ways. But thanks for the video, think I'm ready to make some cuttings myself. :)
I probably have propagated my heartleaf philodendron three times now. it’s grown roots and I planted them in soil. They dont die, but they won’t grow! How do I get my propagation clippings to thrive in their new home?
There are many beautiful kinds of philodendron, and I could not recommend them highly enough! Although, like all Aroids, they love a chunky soil mix so I’d make sure you have that!
This is a fairly weird situation and I don’t really know where to look for an answer - my cuttings have rooted about two or even three weeks ago and I don’t see any new growth (I can see the roots at the very bottom of the pot so the roots are not the problem). Can anyone suggest something to help the cuttings grow leaves?
Thank you for sharing! I found this video super helpful :) I want to propagate a few philodendron that u have. Happily subscribing to your page!! I love meeting new plant people 😍👏
Didn't show you putting it water, didn't mention whether it should be an open or closed lid. The volume on this video is extremely low, barely showed the stems that you cut off.... why is this the first video that came up

Why does your voice go up at the end of all your sentences? Either you are not confident in what you are saying or you are not confident that your audience is smart enough to understand what you are saying. The message I am receiving is the latter whether consciously patronizing or not. Not cool. Had to put you on mute just to watch your passive aggressive video.
@@hillsturrr I am from the US. The way i was describing comes from an era of the Valley Girls of super wealthy californian blonds that everyone took to be "empty in the head". But over time it has turned into something insulting with an intonation that suggests the speaker does not believe that what they are saying is simplified enough for those they are addressing. It has become as prevalent as it is offensive. It truly is the language of class and entitled privilege. Observe for yourself what class uses it and you will know immediately how presumptuous they are. Others, well they just pick it up by means of culture. There are better mannerisms to pass along than that one.

How’d your plant come out?
Hahaha

My favourite houseplant! Going to scope mine out for some root beginnings and get cutting! Thank you for the clear instructions!
I really want to do this but my big mama philodendron just started getting long and trailing and I’m scared 😭
pruning actually helps promote new growth and yee
😂me too!
Update: I never cut her back
@@mkxv is she still getting longer? Have to cut her?

A philodendron is the only plant I haven't killed. I think they will live through anything. :)
*Except cold temperatures for a long period of time*
That’s good to know bc I’m a beginner and I was really discouraged but it’s been 3 weeks and I’m seeing some growth and feeling confident!
I've had great luck with pothos too!!

This is an extremely hard plant to propagate. I’ve done soil and water but sadly no luck! I think I’ll stick with Pothos! ❤
I’ve got the same kind of heart-shaped philodendron plant, will definitely try this
Hey! Great video, but I couldn't really see where you were cutting because of the camera angle, just letting you know.

do you introduce it to water or soil first?
@@Pezinteresante i have them in water till they grow roots, then i transfer them to a small pot with soil
Thanks for sharing! How long until the cuttings rooted in water can be planted typically??
Ideally once they are at least a couple of inches long.
Did you put your cutting in the shade or in a sunny spot?
My cuttings don't grow roots when kept in water even after weeks, could you please tell me the possible reasons?
Will the ones that you cut from the original vine continue to grow longer?
Yep, they should grow out the dude next to where you cut it
Thank you that was super helpful, I thought all along that mine was a pothos so I’m glad I looked it up:) thanks
What kind of plant is hanging in the background of this video? It looks beautiful!
It's called a string of tears
What happens to the mother plant after you take cuttings? Does she recover? How long before new growth appears to the mother?
Depends on the nutrients your plant is receiving mine started showing new growth in one week after trimming.
*ooooo I love climbing plants they're so pretty although, I never had a philodendron🤔*

This is super late, but if you need plant help I highly recommend Facebook groups! They tend to give great advice on plant care and help
How did those cutting with the dry looking nodes turn out? I got some cuttings from my other plant and they were all dry looking!
They should be okay once they go in water. It'll depend if they are dry and dead or just dry looking but still alive inside near the stem.
Very helpful and you describe it well, thank you!
what happens to the limb left over tho? Does it stop growing?
Simple and easy to follow! Good luck with all those lil plant bebes!
Thanks for the super helpful and straight to the point video! Can’t wait to try it. 🌱
Thanks for the tips!

thanks, my phil is about 18 inches of twisting spring crazy lol
Thank you for this clear and concise video! Very helpful :)
I wonder if the littlest tiny last node, did it grow?
This was very helpful! Thank you so much.
Can This plant in a dark room ?
Nice video. Love these plants. Good job

your heart leaf philodendron is growing abundantly
Thank you do much.
Does it need a sunlight?
Rhiana Lopez all plants need sunlight-

If you turn the volume up, it gets louder! I bet you could find a RUclips video to explain it for you :) 🙄
You consumed someone's free labor. No appreciation. No manners. Left a nasty comment. Why does your comment even exist?!
You didn't propagate anything! You took cuttings! I hate these videos that take forever and never get to the point!
I was okay at two cuttings . Maybe show us some that you have propagated . Not much information .
If three minutes is forever to you I feel sorry for your SO. I mean, if you could possibly have one with such an attitude.

Where are you from? My friend moved from South Africa and said everyone here (Canada and the US) talks like how you’re describing.
