- My brother Andrew and I both work a regular 9-5. We spend just about every ounce of time off fishing or doing something fishing related. Sometimes we just run down the road to our local river, and sometimes we travel across the country. Either way we enjoy spending time on the water and our passion lies in not only the fish themselves but in the adventures they take us on. Last summer I flew out to Colorado and met up with my brother to spend 8 days fly fishing, filming, and exploring the southern rockies. We did everything from catching big brown trout on streamers, to fishing the blue waters of alpine lakes for cruising cutthroat. This adventure was one of our best yet. Welcome to the Southern Rocky Mountains.
Hope everyone enjoyed this Colorado Fly Fishing Film! #outdoors #troutfishing #fishing #flyfishing #nature #colorado
Thank you HFA East/West (aka Drew and Jon) for taking this old man on a once in a lifetime adventure. I wouldn't be able to see the places you have taken me to. The video was absolutely one of your best.
Thank you so much!
Very entertaining video with good editing pace. Also, VERY much appreciated that you take the time to mention proper fish handling technique for catch & release! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
That alpine lake GLOWS its so blue! God Almighty i LOVE living in the Utah Rockies!! (I know hes in CO. but we're right smack in the middle of the rockies)
Just watched this entire video with my 10-year-old daughter on a snowy day in Boulder. Just starting to get into fly fishing, and have lived in Colorado for 16 years, so this video got me super hyped up for this year. Also, as a parent I just want to mention that it's such a positive that the language y'all use is so positive and fun. Really made for a great video and something my daughter could not only digest but actually enjoy watching. Cheers :)
This is why Chael is the goat of the mic. He’s so quick it looks as though he’s studied for the conversation
Those alpine lakes in the Southern San Juans are lorded up with them, "greenback cutthroat trout", what a great adventure !
This might be one of the coolest COlorado trout fishing vids ever. Nice work boys!
It’s all fun and games and beers on a boat, but the hike up to alpine lakes is so worth it! Friggin awesome! Let’s go!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it!
The hike is half the fun! Love a catfish pole and beer too.
I just love these adventures u go on with your brother! The videos r the best and OMG THE FISH! Thanks for all the hard work u do on these videos!!!
I think that those are cut bows. Those brooks are so beautiful 😅. They look like great eating!
Thanks for sharing such a great journey!
The first lake is simply stunning! Unbelievably beautiful trout too! Excellent stuff 👍
Unbelievable beautiful fish! Thanks!!!
im from the rockies and its spectacular happy to see people from around the US enjoying it as much as i do.
Sure is truly amazing the beautiful things God created for us . A true blessing, Just to see it, let alone fish it too. Very nice!
Such an amazing video with great fish!!
Awesome footage. Keep up the great work.
Enjoyed! 🎣
Everything about that place is beautiful 😍
fishing in the Rockies looks amazing I’d love to come out and follow after your tactics one day to catch some fish like you
Awesome
Wow guys. What an adventure 😀
Great video!I lived in Colorado for three years and it was such a paradise!😊
Posts You displayed the most beautiful posts and views with a beautiful taste, thank you🙏🏻🌹❤️🌼💯
Some beautiful fish...
Jon, the HFA West adventures are always great. That lake reminds me of one I fished near lake Tahoe many years ago. The water was crystal clear and aqua blue. The trout congregated in one area and they were so weary they could see us coming for lack of trees and ground cover. Very difficult to catch any despite seeing them right there.
Enjoyed this
I need to get out and do this. I moved to CO last year, and so far I've basically just fished the local lake here in town. Which is fine, I love spending time on the kayak out there, but I need to get out and do some of this.
But awesome video guys! Do some more! and keep fishing.
Best flyfishing channel ❤
Absolutely awesome you guys! I've lived in Colorado my whole life and fished a ton of places here. You guys make fantastic content and have me eager to explore more places. This year I started a new thing where I only fish with flies I tie myself.
Glad you enjoy the videos! And good luck out there this year!
beautiful scenery
Guys an unbelievable trip---the best trout fishing I've seen out West!! Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it
My gosh guys day 4 is fricking amazing! Best fishing day ever in a gorgeous lake I’ve ever seen! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed!!
Great video, loved it! On my bucket list, along with Florida Keys with the kayak. Also, just awesome to see brothers from WV doing it together. Thanks for sharing
Would love to see you post more tactics content. Favorite methods, set ups with each, go to flies, etc.
Thank you! And yeah we can definitely do that, this video was more about the adventure and less about how we were catching the fish.
Amazing trip and equally amazing trout. Well done and thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed!!
Thank you sooo much for not spot burning.
Muy bonitos e inolvidables momentos de pesca, lugares hermosos, ríos limpios.
Saludos amigos.
Great review
One of the better fishing adventures that I've seen in a while. Thanks for the vid .... take care you two🐟🐟🐟✌🏻
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it
I'm from NJ and I don't get to do this type of stuff much, but I love watching it. Nice film!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed
Wow, I've got to get up there! I'll be making plans and camping in the near future
Such a great video guys! That one cutthroat you caught and managed to stay hooked up with as it came down the water fall was epic!
Thank you!! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!!
Awesome catch! Beautiful scenery and fish. Love your video. Just subscribed to your channel! Watching and fishing from West Virginia!❤️🎣
On high mountain lakes, use a spinning outfit and present your fly by using a transparent bobber attached 3 to 4 ft above the fly; this way you can make fly casts way out from the shore where the lunkers are cruising!
Awesome video mate
Cool to see all of these adventures together my friend! Good stuff, and good fishing with you!
We’ll have to do it again this year!
@@hardmanfishing For sure!
Ok I think I'll have to pick up the fly rod again. Hard to fish it in creeks in Michigan but sometimes the only option!
7:00 Cutbow?
A video on all the gear taken on this trip would be awesome.
Great video I would love to get out there and possibly meet you one of your trips to the Rockies, I am always traveling around the state to find some good fish.
Holy cow, those waters look so clear. Thank god there are still places we humans haven't conpletely destroyed yet.
Nice video!
Great video! HFA West needs to be showed more
Patiently awaiting new Colorado content. ❤
Andrew is working on it!
Great video! If you come back out to Colorado and want to link up let me know!
Wow what gorgeous country!
Amazing them brook trout apparently are same strain from mid Atlantic states . Look exactly the same
EPIC!
Thanks Larry!!
20:38 I come for the fishing but stay for the geology.
be careful grabbing the middle of your rod while fighting fish it can snap, happened to my buddy with a huge trout (and a sage rod). Consider a rod with a fighting bud if you need the extra support for big ones. Great video though super fun to watch and well made.
Great vid 🤙
Thanks man! Glad to see you’re back making videos
Thank you for sharing the awesome footage. Your guys videos are the best fly fishing content I'd say on youtube. Have you gone done any footage yet up in Uintas mountain range of Utah? I'm slowly learning how to do some video content too. Won't be able to do nowhere near as good as you guys.
Great video. I primarily fish in the Catskills (I own a house on the east branch) and spent a few days in Montana this year after retiring in February. I've been doing some research for a possible DIY trip in Colorado and have been watching your Colorado series videos to get some ideas. I was disappointed to see the crowds on South Platte but will hopefully put together a trip next year. I'm not young anymore so hopefully I can find some waters that are accessible, not over crowded, and where I can catch a variety of trout. Am I asking for too much?
Amazing video beautiful scenery and gorgeous fish 🔥
Thank you!
Your Welcome Sir
Incredible footage, great great job. Thank you for sharing. New sub here.
Heck yeah! Glad you enjoyed the video
Dude such an amazing video! Have you ever considered a complete brown trout streamer tutorial where you break down your fishing? It would be awesome!
I want to actually! Just haven’t gotten around to doing it yet
Quick tip try not to grab 20 inches up on the rod while fighting larger fish the fly rod is designed to bend and flex when you grab that section you change the load bend and are more prone to snap your rod instead when tires switch hands all in all great video all positive vibes
You know we got pause and rewind. You do not need to hold trout more than 5 seconds. Nice trip!
I have to ask about your brook trout net, and sling pack? Great video, makes me miss out West!
7x tippet WTF 😳 lol
hello awesome videos just incredible footage . im liking the net your using if possible where can i get one i like how you hang it on your hip
I would appreciate the info for sure. many blessings on jour journeys!!!. tight lines always
And it’s raining so hard here so maybe in a few days please 🙏🏻 😊😊
I think the first fish you caught on the clear lake was a cutthrout trout
Think those are natives. Greenback cutties.
Loved the vid. Been to those lakes. It’s a workout but that area of CO is friggin nirvana for cutthroat fishing! From south to north, damn near everyone of those lakes is loaded with fat cuts. Stocked from planes by the DOW.
So I’ve heard! I’d like to explore more of it if I can.
you boys fished with my good buddy Clay out here a year or so ago.. would love to link up and wet some lines!
It’s amazing how they can see the fish. I wonder if that comes with experience?
Polarized sunglasses are a fantastic tool for fishing. Takes almost all of the glare off the water.
nice vid, it really is too bad that brook trout have become so prevalent out west though.
Between the orvis clearwater and the TFO PRO3 what do you recommend for someone getting into flyfishing and heavy trout (rainbow, brook, and all the above) and light bass fishing out in Colorado/Texas?
Should try some Pyramid Lake fishing if you haven't done already!
Did you fish the Conejos?? Still watching, maybe i missed it - lol
Forget the fly rod. Use a "Super dooper".
Where was the lake that was in the thumbnail? Its absolutely gorgeous!
Your high alpine lake catches are not rainbows or cutbows they’re all cutthroat which is always a special catch regardless of the size.
FISHING WORLD RECORD(BY SISTEM AND EQUIPMENT)HUCHO-HUCHO 12 KG!117 cm LONG!!!!
Awesome......What camera setup do you guys use?
I never know what fly to use in the places like the first creek you caught the big rainbow in at the start. Fly have a name?
What part of WV are you guys from? I moved to CO in ‘97 and am preparing to retire and head back to WV later this year.
I just wanted to know where are those lakes located of course it’s a secret but general location in the southern Rockies was it San Juan?
Great Video🤘when fishing the lake, you have a fish on but why are you pulling line out?
We probably didn't need to. That was just because we were using light tippet and didn't trust the drag at times.
Remarkable difference in the size and quantity of that lake fishing on day 1 and 4. Does it has perhaps something to do with the altitude?
Well there are a ton of factors, not sure it’s one particular thing.
Hello, after watching your videos I really enjoyed it and I am an outdoor landscape Photography would want to visit this lake for some landscape shooting, I wonder if you can tell me the name of this lake?
19:19 how did you catch a fish out of that hole
Your first fish in the lake looked like a cutbow.
When did you guys film this? Great video!
I think it was end of august early September
man love your videos you should try making a video on fly fishing for bass on top water
I plan on it this summer!!
One complaint other than that great video good effort absolutely appreciate it and enjoyed it. Just asking why you don’t just release the fish after you show it to the camera when you drop it back into the net in sometimes almost no water and say I’m gonna get this guy released soon and then talk about other stuff while the fish is sitting in your net, just don’t understand why you don’t release them at that point.
what net are you using?
You guys ever use powerbait?
Man what a time to be out weather quality of fish is unmatched on the video what state ?
Colorado!
Which area of CO did you fish in this trip?
