Allen council meeting erupts in argument over open carry debate

- During the citizen comment portion of a July 9 Allen City Council meeting, speakers became heated over a debate on open carry rights in the council chambers. A speaker at the June 25 meeting openly carried a holstered handgun while criticizing Councilmember Lauren Doherty, which some citizens interpreted as an attempt of intimidation.

2nd amendment belongs to the people not government
The 2nd Amendment shall not be infringe on by the Government. A criminal record does not allow for this Protection to be taken by the Government either.
Not exactly. The 2nd Amendment is an article created by a Government. If there's no US Government, there's no 2nd Amendment. To enforce the right of all law abiding citizens to have a gun is the function of 2A. It can't solely belong to the people, or else your right to own a gun is no greater than my right to take it from you.

In that case you shouldn't be allowed to own a weapon because it includes the clause "A well armed militia" Guess what, the "National Guard" is a militia, one person carrying a weapon is not a militia. You can't just cherry pick the constitution my friend.

And the national guard is both a militia and part of the armed forces you pleb. It's like that so federal and local government can call on them. A mayor that says you need to debate this in political business not council business? That's just stupid. He might not be comfortable having to deal with tough issues but being a mayor is a political office. This fool was kind of term limited and ran for a district seat and lost in a primary. Cowardice should never be rewarded. Plus, he's a Republican mayor saying he likes that an obvious very liberal woman is on the council. You can say you like her as a person but to want her there over someone that would fight for economic and individual liberty would be who you want it that seat.

Security is a right. We know that our fists are not as powerful as the weapons used by criminals, so we much have equal or greater strength to defend ourselves, our families, and our homes. Every moment of life is precious, and every moment of life is worth defending. Carry arms at all times, the worst can fall upon you at any moment. Be good, be strong, be honest, and care about your neighbors.

Anyone who behaves disapprovingly towards others in a public meeting, as this first gentleman did, must not carry a weapon. It boils in little water and that is a danger to public safety because, as has happened before, in a discussion of no importance at all, they pull a gun and shoot to kill.
Then anyone who gets road rage must not be allowed to drive.

Open carry is barely better than no-carry. CCW is best because a responsible carry is one that is never known. If the need arises, so be it. If it doesn't, so be it. Open carry for some people is like a girl with purple hair. Again...for some.

@@charlesmoore6140 Mr. Moore...actually your sarcasm is justified in some cases. A few years ago when Missouri still required certified training in order to receive a CCW permit, I was shocked to see the kinds of people who were getting certified to carry a concealed weapon legally in Missouri. Out of my class of 15 people, there were only 3 who had the maturity level and professional bearing to be carrying a concealed weapon. Sadly though, the guns are already in the hands of the bad guys...and, they are called "bad guys" for a reason. Before I retired, I was in senior mgt in a healthcare organization. We once had an angry patient with a gun and another time one with a hunting knife. Both 911 calls resulted in the police arriving in 7 and 11 minutes respectively. One cannot rely on even the best of police departments to arrive in time to stop terrible things from happening. I do respect your position.

I am glad my country had prohibited arms and gave out licence rarely without needing to decide in present day. Yes, our democravy is doing just fine without private handguns proliferaring everywhere imcliding the criminals. I guess USA is majority violence minded.
