Hi everyone! There is a lot of ambiguity around the new visa rules announced by the UK a few days back, especially about the skilled worker visa salary requirement. I would recommend you to study the documents I have added to the description and also speak to a solicitor who can guide you better in this situation. I know that a lot of you are quite concerned after the recent announcements. I am not an expert in immigration laws, but I hope this video will give you some direction to think about.
You can find "70% of going rate" for different job roles under this rule using the link below. But as per the current rules your salary needs to be at least £20,960 per year after 70% deduction. Let's see if the government will change this rule or not, and in the future if this list will be revised or the government may calculate 70% of £38,700 or delete this clause altogether.

First time watching your video. Very impressed with your flow of information and research. I knew about it before but never saw any main-stream UK study/migration content youtuber covering. I also did not find anything related to New entrant rule change.
Also, I have the same scenario. I am currently on a graduate visa which will be expiring by July next year. I am working for a major UK retail chain in their head office. But my salary is still not reaching that 38.7k mark.
My company does sponsor for my role but this new salary threshold would make me ineligible under government rules. I am pushing my management to expedite the skilled worker visa before April so I don't have to look into new entrant. If not, then that is the only option I have left with.

In 2007, I came to the UK as a student and worked as a research technician under the PSW category for 2 years. Subsequently, my university/employer sponsored me for another 4 years at a salary of £20,000. Meanwhile, UKBA rules changed, and the new rules insisted that the same job has to be a PhD-level job with increased requirements of £27000 when you apply for tier 2 renewal. Despite lacking a PhD, my employer raised my salary and facilitated a work permit. Yes, UKBA can change goalposts, and the rules of the day apply when it comes to renewal at least in my case.

Thank you bro! You have significantly enhanced the clarity of the entire situation. Could you kindly elaborate on how the time period for ILR would be calculated assuming the persistence of the "70% policy"? Additionally, in the event that our assumptions materialize, are there any policies governing extensions to the stipulated '4-year time limit'?

Got good clarity through your videos. Can you make a video as to how we can approach an employer if they ask about how can they sponcer us. ( I am a recent graduate in marketing from Glasgow university and felt that as an applicant often we have to let the employers know that I want to go ahead with sponcership and the requirements around the same to provide them the clarity and that I am eligible for getting one. So if you can make a video as to how to best mentioned it on resume and how should we approach/ employeers about sponcership.

It’s called new entrant rule and it will be there in the future but the salary level might be increased, which is 70% of 38700! So it should be around 27k! So it won’t be easy for graduates and will create more competition in the job market! This is just a speculation!

    Hello!
I have a question just to make sure I understand this right. Let's say a student graduates, and he/she is on their post-work visa, getting a job that pays 23K. According to the new rule, they won't receive sponsorship, and their visa won't be extended because 23K doesn't fall under the 70% limit. We can't discuss this 70% because anything could happen

Hey, just a quick question on the 70% clause. What if I was on a student visa, completed my degree in May this year however I switched to a dependent skilled workers visa in September 2022. If I want to become the primary visa holder will this apply to me?

How are people supposed to manage in the UK with a 40 K salary ? Why not just stay in India and make 20 L as SE or college professors or open up a shop and make 40-50 L a year in tier2/3 city ? Am i missing something?

  • @siddhantkamat9137

Also, the home office has historically put transitional measures in place whenever salary thresholds have been raised. So people who will renew their skilled worker visas will renew under the same rules that were in force when their first COS was issued. This was the case when the threshold raised by 5K in 2016. I certainly expect to be the same when the thresholds have raised by more than 10K.

I could be wrong but from what I have researched.
A person can avail PSW only once (be it the PSW holder or their dependent). So one cannot abuse this system so both spouse avail this visa at different times.
For baby, I think you may get some type of benefits.
