    In 2020 Subaru dropped the 3.6, 6cyl and added a 2.4L 4cyl turbo. The 2.5 naturally aspirated engine went from 175hp to 182hp.
    The longevity of the turbo remains unknown in reliability even now in 2023, but so far they’re very durable.

  • @bmwmsport11

    The 2.5 seems to be just enough for such a big car. You really need to give it gas to accelerate hard. No complaints tho considering i get 33 mpg highway and some 28 combined.

    • @SubieandFriends
      @SubieandFriends 3 года назад

      I have a video on my channel showing how fast the 4 cylinder accelerates and it's not bad at all, I think I took it to 112mph but it was pretty quick to get there so yea the 4 cylinder is good enough for everything that you need to do and comes with great fuel economy!

      Yeah I suppose that is a good thing, because I don't think these engines enjoy being rev'd too hard. So I've read anyway. I am new owner of a 2018 2.5i Limited Subaru Outback two days ago.

    Does anyone ever review base models? Not many people buy the luxury-trim models. That's why they call them "limited." But that's what gets reviewed most of the time, I assume because that's what is pushed by the source of the review vehicles.

    • @uncommonsense7830
      @uncommonsense7830 3 года назад

      Vehicles with the word, "limited" in the name usually refer to the fact that it is an anniversary or special addition, usually a combination of multiple make years made into one car.

    • @jamestruden2853
      @jamestruden2853 2 года назад

      Funny you’d say that as I only buy top end models. I also only buy used and I don’t want cloth seats that someone else sweat all over for a couple years. So I always look for the leather seats which is typically the limited or high end design. I have a Subaru Outback limited and a Lincoln MKX Reserve with the twin turbo engine. It’s just a matter of preference when you buy used the price difference is minimal.

    After selling our 18 year old Camry and our 12 year old Rav 4WD Limited and buying our Subie’s, our insurance premiums DROPPED by $1,200 per year. I asked our agent why it dropped and we were told it’s because Subaru’s are more safe, have too accident avoidance and Subaru’s are less likely to be stolen.
    We don’t have to fold down the rear seats in both our Outback and Forester on those occasions when I need to use my wheelchair. This is HUGE for me.

      Allyson Coltrane good luck! You can't go wrong either way and don't be afraid to negotiate! I was able to get a good amount off MSRP for a 2018 model. You just have to bring figures and they have pretty good dealer hold backs from the manufacturer. For example I bot the car with MSRP $38,600 for $35,500 and they still made good money on it

Is it easy to get in and out like a small suv or does it lean more toward the "your butt feels like it is riding on the pavement and a person with bad knees/back is going to have to pull themselves out of it? Example, we've got a 93 Chevy Lumina car and for me to get out, I literally have to grab the outside door and roof and pull myself out because the car is so low and doors are so tight

  • @JBM425

    I was pleasantly surprised and impressed when I saw an Outback on display at a Portland-area REI in 2019. For a vehicle that is far from being a gargantuan, the cargo room with or without the second row folded down was impressive! Since I am the sole passenger most of the time, I don't need a huge car for daily driving, but I do need cargo capacity for hauling my hockey gear to the rink as well as when I go camping in the desert at our amateur rocketry club's central Oregon desert range. Only one thing really disappoints me, and it's not that it doesn't have active cooled/ventilated seats (the seats in the Touring trim are perforated leather but not cooled): it's the towing capacity of the 3.6R. It used to be rated for 3,000 pounds a few years ago, but now it's rated the same 2,700 as the 2.5. I want to be able to pull a teardrop or popup camper to our launch site, because sleeping in a tent in the cold desert nights in April and October is less appealing to me than it used to be. Now that the 3.6R has been downgraded, I'm not sure this meets my needs and could be a deal-breaker.

    • @ram89572
      @ram89572 5 лет назад

      EPA regulations. Plain and simple. CVTs can test better which helps the car manufacturer stay within the mpg requirements which get worse every year. But from my research the Subaru CVT doesn't seem near as bad as for example the Nissan CVTs. From a purely mechanical sense, CVTs have few moving parts and thus can actually be cheaper to own e eventually, but they aren't currently as prevalent as traditional automatics and so the repair costs are still quite high. Also since they haven't been standard for as long as traditional automatics expect that it will still be some years before the technology is perfected and as or more reliable.

    This 3.6 makes the same power as a 3.6 malibu from 2008? Plus its cvt? No thanks. Ill buy an older model. Just getting individual tire pressure monitoring? There's gotta be more than just the awd system to sell me.

      Get serious, In July 2004 I paid $36,500CD with taxes for my lower level Chrysler 300. They gave me $3,000 for a lemon 1992 Legacy turbo GT. Still have it with just 71,000 km, no rust.

    Did they do away with the (slightly) reclining back seat? I see the lever that you use to be able to fold the seat down with or use to tilt the rear seat back a little. I guess it has to be talked about but my focus isn't on the multi-media sound system and stuff. Most Subaru owners I know got them for safety and the ability to take them off the beaten path not hook to Pandora or whatever. Love the 8.7 inch clearance too.

    I love the styling of the Outback. Well equipped and no one can question Subaru's AWD capabilities! My one concern would be the issue of the oil burning by their engines! Is this still happening? I'd hate to be adding oil to my vehicle between oil changes.

    I almost bought this car but a few kinks irritated me that I knew that would be a bummer over the years was (Fit and finish inside the fake wood on the doors panels are ugly) and also the fact that Subaru did not add a sport mode selector for the transmission (so the CVT would be more responsive like the forester XT ) I went for an Infiniti QX60 instead of the Outback and wow I really enjoy this SUV . I think that 2018 outback is a bit less attractive outside than the 2017 model . I would have chosen this car over the Infiniti if I needed to do more off-Roading but it's not my case .. I'm really glad I didn't go with a Subaru , anyway the dealers here in Canada are really bad , Every time I see the dealers you have in the states I would have been glad to buy a Subaru from one of your dealers but here no way ..

    Most uncomfortable seat of any car I have ever owned. Didn’t realize on the test drive :(

    • @larrymarks5836
      @larrymarks5836 6 лет назад

      Maybe not for you...I find it horribly uncomfortable. I've been messing with it for 3 weeks. I may have found a tolerable position for it but its far from comfortable. Even at its lowest setting the lumbar thing sticks out way too far and is too high up for me. I love the car except for that. I'm seriously thinking that I may have to sell it or trade it in for something else. I'm going to try a method of lowering the lumbar support by extending the wire in the seat that controls it. I saw a video on this so I'm far from the only person complaining about Subaru seats.
