  • In this video, Dr. Webb shows the 3D Biomechanical Gait Lab at Texas Back Institute in Plano, Texas and how it can help improve patient outcomes in Spine Surgery.
    What is the Spine Biomechanical Gait Lab?
    The Spine Biomechanics Laboratory at Texas Back Institute Research Foundation works to investigate the biomechanical risk factors associated with spinal ailments in an effort to define the most appropriate and effective treatment options.
    The laboratory is actively studying patients with scoliosis, cervical and thoracic myelopathy, chronic back and neck pain, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, and total disc replacement for lumbar and cervical degeneration. Within each group, the researchers are comparing gait, balance, lifting, sit-to-stand motion, and stair climbing before and after several types of treatments.
    The biomechanical analysis can help determine if patients are using muscles efficiently after surgery and if their muscles are coordinated. The findings can be used to help fine tune physical therapy programs and help motivate patients to continue exercising.
    The lab is the first spine-related human movement biomechanics lab to be incorporated within a private practice spine center in the United States.

    Awesome, thank you very much. I’m writing a movie script in which the main character is involved in some biomechanics research that uses motion capture, so this is useful research material for me. Many thanks Dr. Webb and team from the Texas Back Institute Research Foundation.

    Dr. Webb, I am graduating with my bachelors in Exercise Science this spring & am heavily considering graduate school! The content of this video reminds me a lot of a sports injuries prevention course I took. I know you stated this lab is very unique but I live in the Cleveland area & am wondering if the Cleveland Clinic maybe has something similar? I have to do one more internship, would be really amazing to find something like this to explore! Great topic, thanks.

    • @rhaddas
      @rhaddas 4 года назад

      Dependent on the size of the clinic. Large facilities (usually associate with University) have accesses to this type of lab.
