Supposedly when Donald Bellasario was casting his lead for the show that would be named NCIS, saw Mark Harmon's performance on The West Wing, and decided that THAT was his Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Harmon is a terrific actor, and his performance in the West Wing was incredible. So sad when they killed him off. Though we might not have had him as Gibbs for the past 17 years if he had continued on West Wing.

"The West Wing" and "The Sopranos" battled it out in the 2000's as the two most prestigious and acclaimed hour long dramas on television.
"The West Wing" representing network television and "The Sopranos" representing cable television. This was the point where television entered a new golden age.
It showed that the medium could provide intelligent, thought provoking entertainment and back it up with great writing, great acting and great production values.
Television was no longer the little sibling to cinema but could stand side by side feature films and be as creatively exciting as movies whilst providing the same level of depth and substance it previously lacked.

You worked so hard to get these people here for this series retrospective, and you screw up the audio? What?

John Larroquette really should have been mentioned but I get it, there were so many.

    Guys
    Don’t be too upset
The list of great actors that had great parts with great lines is too long for the character limit for RUclips comments
It would be a 3 x 2 hour mini-series on its own if they did a documentary around all the great guest stars that graced the screen of The West Wing

I was waiting for Lionel Tribbey's actor, John Laroquette. Probably my favourite niche character over the whole thing. Shame.

I miss you guys. You were my introduction to American polity, as I'd just arrived stateside as a bright-eyed full-time student, and totally assumed that politics is the US is indeed this evolved, this esoteric, this ebullient. It took me a few years to realize that the show was fiction, not just in an obvious sense, but also on a deeper level, in that it represented Sorkin's imagination of a non-cynical, non-zero-sum idea of politics. I was sad to realize that real life is a little different.

So no one is gonna Matthew Perry's role which led to kicking out the vice president which goes underrated. I know a lot of this is cast based but still.

Worst oversights. First, Roger Rees/Lord John Marbruy omitted -as has been said by Kings and Queens...and to roll in Jimmy Smits, who was was a series regular for the better part of two seasons. Hardly a guest star or recurring actor.

  • @richardausten5295

Ainsley was wonderful - I understand why losing her was regret for Sorkin. I kind of joke that Ainsley might be the only Republican I'd want to marry and Arnold the only Republican I'd vote for. So perhaps just a little too fictional. Heart of gold types with integrity? Definitely fiction in today's Republicans.
