  • Everything you need to know about a SILKY POCKETBOY folding saw. How to use a Silky Pocketboy, what the different Silky Pocketboy blades or teeth are for. Why do Silky Pocketboy saws have two notches and what that little hole in the Silky Pocketboy Blade is for. Silky is a Japanese folding saw brand has crafted a wonderful range of saws from the Silky Pocketboy through to their telescopic saws and the ever popular Silky Gomboy and Silky Bigboy. I keep a Silky Pocketboy with me in my EDC when I need to process wood for things like tent pegs, toggles and small bushcraft or even a bit of fire wood. It only weights 170g or six ounces and fits in my hand or my pocket. The 90 degree spine on the silky allows you to strike a ferro rod and because it's made of high carbon steel you can use it as a steel striker for flint and steel fires.
Remember that Silky saws are pull saws, applying pressure on the return to your original position may break or bend the blade.
I'f you're in the market for a new saw you can check out the link below.

Thanks Ryan! I must say I am super impressed with the quality myself. I'm also glad that they give us the options between sizes and blades.

Howzit! Thanks for watching. They're super useful. The best thing is they leave a super smooth cut so you don't have to work with jagged edges. If you do decide to shop, there is an affiliate link in the description of this video that you can keep in mind. Greetings from Africa, C

I have 3 silkys..the pocket, gom and big boy. The big boy is by far the worst of the 3. Its only real use is dropping trees. I also have a boreal 21 folding bow saw. Best saws ever. Enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing.

Hi there! Thanks for your comment and it's nice to hear from you. I believe some say that the big boy's are just a bit overkill for every day use, is that why you feel that it's the worst of the bunch? Glad you liked the video! C

@@LiveReady the big boy is too big for most things other than dropping a tree for firewood or large branches. It takes a toll on your forearm using it for medial tasks. I tend to use the gomboy, it is my go to for most tasks. Processing loads of firewood I go with boreal.

I love the silkys :) First I thought the black cat in the beginning looked like a black leopard or something exotic but then I saw it was just a regular cat. Must say I´m a little envious of the wildlife you have there in South Africa, of course up here in the north we have moose or two but it would be fun to experience something else also. Thanks for the video and take care :)

Hi there Pierre, nice to hear from you and thanks for watching. I'll be sure to pass your compliment on to Juniper. The wildlife is amazing. So sad that there are people killing off baboons because they're a nuisance. I sometimes think we humans are the problem not the animals. Luckily there are plenty of conservation areas keeping the animals safe. Keep well, C

G'day LR.! Firstly I must say that you have a couple of groupie here, "The Twins", They both loves your show & you. Their mother loves it because they cuddle up to her while watching your informative program. Dad don't exist when you're on..! but it's all good. We use Gerber's saw & local generics, grandma's pruning saw works too, but the Gerber retracting saw works wonders, it hasn't fail me yet. We will get to the silky one day, we use all our tools, knives, axes & saws. They're made to be use as working tools. The twins uses their Sabenza in the bush, fishing, cutting & preparation of food, whittling & feathering etc. They both had to work really hard for 3 months, fixing fences before they got their Sabenza, thank you for sharing & being my girl's hero.! Lots of cheers from Australia.

Hello there, thanks so much for your great comments and interest in the channel. I did set out to inspire more women to spend time preparing, learning survival skills and bushcraft and it's wonderful that the young ones take the time to learn these skills early on too, they are invaluable. I'm so happy to hear that you mums and the twins all love the channel. The Silky saws are impressive but there are many people who prefer Bahco's or other brands and that is perfectly fine too. We also have some "generic" tools around the home, those are very useful too and nothing wrong with no-name. Stay safe, C

Very well informed use of the saw, but I’m still Bahco Laplander forever. A lot less maintenance in the field. 😜

Hi Si! Thanks for watching... yeah I figured there would be a couple of Bahco supporters, it's good to have options because as you implied there are different advantages to all of them. And at least now there is one for the Laplander team 😎
