Excellent, We were there in March and it was amazing. The food at Suisse was great, the entire atmosphere was serene and somewhat eerie. I did enjoy getting a class picture with the ruins and Vesuvius in the background. Your video makes me feel like I'm back there again. This will be great for my students who weren't able to make the trip. We're in Ohio.
Hello Elyssa! I’m Mirko, your tour guide in Pompeii. I’ve just casually come across this video and it made my day. Thank you for the lovely comment and I’m glad you appreciated the tour with me.
Hello Mirko!! Thanks so much for remembering me. I had a wonderful time on that tour and you were one of the reasons. You really brought the place to life for us. I realize how hard it can be to try to share such a vast place with so much to see, but you helped us see the highlights and also allowed us to imagine what life must have been like for the Pompeiians long ago. Thank you again for a brilliant tour and thanks for watching the video!
Yes, it really is amazing - and as brutal as that eruption was, it also preserved so much of the city which is why we can still see so much of it today.
Hi Elyssa, a great idea to have a day trip to Pompeii. We have been 2 times now as well as to Herculaneum when in Sorrento, it is spectacular a must visit place and so easy from Rome and we have even eaten at the restaurant you had lunch in. Once more a great tip from you, to see Pompeii when in Rome, not many people would think of that. Take care.
Thanks, Peter! Wow that's amazing that you had lunch where we did. I was worried it would be touristy but I thought it was quite a nice lunch and the pizza was excellent! Yes, Herculaneum is another must, of course! I think it's amazing you can see all this from Rome. It's one thing to visit from Naples or Sorrento, but it's great that you can even go as a day trip to Rome, and it was not even that tiring! Thanks as always for your comments!
@@faehse47 Hi I am sure if you contact the Ristorante Suisse which is outside the entrance of Pompeii will answer all you dietary questions, the food was really good when we ate there, hope this helps.
@@faehse47 I am not sure, however, when you book, I suggest letting the tour company know right away of any food intolerances or restrictions. When we got on the bus at 7:30, almost first thing, our tour leader told us what was on the menu and had us choose so that the restaurant would be prepared. So first, I'd check with the tour company either before you book or when you book. Second, when you order your food on the bus, you have another chance to let them know about any restrictions.
Last April I did the full day small bus tour with Walks of Italy. This tour included a drive along the Amalfi coast to Positano with time for lunch ( not included) and a guided tour of Pompeii. I would HIGHLY recommend this small group Walks of Italy day tour
I agree, Walks of Italy is one of my favorite tour companies. They consistently offer excellent small group tours. Here is the one from Rome to Naples with Amalfi coast drive that you mention, if anyone wants to check it out: tinyurl.com/rome-pompeii
Great video Elyssa! Pompei is on our to visit list. We'll be dong that while we're on our second leg of our Italia 2025 trip in Naples. A 28 minute train ride with the Circumvesuviana Line 1 from Piazza Garibaldi station to Pompei Scavi Villa Dei Misteri station. We'll try to fit in some time to check out Herculaneum as well, I hear it's less crowded than Pompei.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yes, it's easy to get there by yourself using the trains. And yes, Herculaneum can be much less crowded than Pompeii. Have a great trip!
My husband and I took the direct train from Rome to Pompeii on a holiday (they also do it on Sundays) and it was 64 Euro total! Get there at 1040 and leave at about 1830. Not a lot of people know about the direct train, would be a great video!
Yes you are right, there is one train per week that goes directly from Rome to Pompeii. Thanks for the suggestion to make a video about this. I'll add it to my list!
We took a similar day trip on the 25th of March but ended up in Positano instead of Naples. It was our first time in Italy so we knew nothing. It was a long day but the trip was awesome and the guides were very good. It was a great way to see a little of everything and check some sites off of our list. I would say it is an especially good trip for first time visitors. I also want to thank you for your content it was a huge help to us on our trip. I can't stress enough how helpful the Romewise website and channel were. I can't wait until I can come back again and see more of Italy and Rome.
First of all, thank you so much for your very kind comments. I'm glad you enjoy my content and find it helpful. Second of all, I think ending up in Positano is not such a bad thing :D. Positano is also beautiful. There is so much to see, and it's hard to "see it all", even when you live here, and I always say that anything you do see will be wonderful I'm happy to hear you had such an enjoyable trip! Oh I think you would love Pompeii! It's truly an amazing, fascinating site. But it's also huge and I think one would need multiple visits there to see it all! I'll take any excuse to eat pizza! Glad you enjoyed the video - thanks as always!!
I’m sold on this video! Planning on doing the that day trip adventure you recommended. Question: How much should I tip the tour guide for a tour like the one you took? And should I tip the driver too? Thank you in advance! 😊
That's great - you will love it! I tipped our Pompeii guide 10€ and I paid the bus driver + tour leader 15€. We really enjoyed all the staff, including the driver (who didn't say much but we felt in good hands - it was a very smooth ride!)
