A+ Excellent video in all respects: commentators, content, quality of video, audio and graphics. I watched it once before volunteering (on short notice) at the recent Hawaiian Open. I refereed 12 matches, including a couple of pro matches (trial by fire). Now, after that experience, I was able to glean more nuances from you video. Thank you.

This is where you should start. Excellent video and it gives a great scope of info without being scary. I have only been in the game a few months but love it and want to give back. I took the course with Bob Patten and Andrea Mayorga and they are exceptional.

Awesome video, I took the referee training class, and passed all three online tests numerous times. Trying to get hooked up with a USAPA trainer to fulfill phase II is the biggest hurdle. Thanks

Ideal video with great examples!!! I'll never be a 5.0 player, but I would like to referee. Reading the rules is one thing ... seeing it played out is great! Thanks.

Thanks Gene! We appreciate the support. It was a huge team effort that took hundreds of hours to create, but we think it will really help break the fear barrier for players to get started.

5:42 - "... do not even start your serving motion until I call the Complete score." has been changed. "The server may start their service motion during the calling of the score."

Great video that is super helpful. It is time to update this to the new rules and terms of 2021 along with the new updated scoresheet. I notice in this video the terminology used is sides instead of ends after the 3rd game of 6 points is reached.

This video is outdated. This is 2021, it needs to show the new scoresheets, at a time out called, announce which team called the time out, referee will give 15 second notice and should say, "receiving team has so many time outs remaining, serving has so many time outs remaining." We now call it change of "ends" not change "sides." We should not say at the beginning of a match, "to identify the starting server or starting receiver by name" just say the names of the players playing against each other. Servers may now do anything while the referee calls the score including their service motion, but must not serve the ball while the score is being called. In a tournament, players (usually) will receive, via email, pre-tournament instructions. During the pre-match briefing, the referee should ask the players if they have any questions on their "Pre-tournament" instructions. In 2021, referees must now look for all four players for readiness not just the receiver.

When you say the player of the right you mean the server or the receiver on the right. This needs to be said because of stacking all the players may be on the right or left.

Great video. Only thing it's missing is what to do at the end of games before the end of the match.

Thanks so much for watching. Yes the greatest challenge we had was deciding what to leave out. Appreciate you watching and sharing and hopefully helping to get more people started trying to ref. This should not replace training and working with existing refs, but hopefully get folks started in the process. We may in the future do more ref videos and certainly in between games is something to be part of instruction. All the best!!!

I have a question about the court - since the court is marked white .. some time with the darker ball colours .. will it not make it easy to paint the court outer walls with darker Colors??
    I appreciate your response..
    Thanks again.
