    One thing I’d say is that I’m really happy with these companies bringing out affordable lenses. If you’re just starting out on RUclips or into content creation and want to elevate your production value, it’s great to know you don’t have to give up your rent to achieve the results. Sure they wouldn’t be as good as the sigmas but with post editing and a good eye you can get away with a lot!

    I appreciate your review Matti. Your honest evaluation means I trust your opinion. As far as this lens goes, the same applies to all lenses of this ilk as you point out. You can have low price, fast aperture, sharpness, autofocus, etc., but not all at once. Thanks for the great work.

    I do not experience a problem with the screwable lens hood in practice. It goes quickly.

    I love that you talk about the mounts, I feel like nobody does that when reviewing lenses and I always have to research myself lol

    Thanks for the content. Mine is already on its way home. And thanks for your sincerity in this video, as I read in the other comment, we can really trust your opinion for the way this video was made. Grateful. From Rio de Janeiro - Brasil.

    On my Olympus Pen F this is the type of lens I would use for street photos and always stopped down F4 or 5.6. Which is a FF equivalence of F8 or 11. And Pre focused to 5 meters usually. I might just have to pick it up. Thank you for the review

    Hi Matti and thanks for your thoughtful video. I've the Meike 35mm f1.4 (a really nice lens) and the 7Artisans 55mm f1.4 mk1 (softish at 1.4 but useable and nice stopped down) and I was hoping that my copy of the TTArtisans 17mm f1.4 would be somewhere between the other 2 lenses. However, my copy of this lens was never really sharp and I decided that I probably wouldn't use the lens and so sent it back. Initially, it was such a tight fit that the lock pin on my EM5 mk 3 wouldn't engage. Having read several rave revues I had expected much more from this lens and I suspect that there is a problem with quality control. I believe that TT and 7 Artisans are produced in the same factory, and I wonder if the is a lot of variability in the optical quality with 7 Artisans lenses also. It's a real shame but I wonder if this is the price that we have to pay for such inexpensive lenses.

      Thanks for sharing. I guess there has to be some reason(s) for the low price. My lens seems to be quite a good copy.

    Seems like a handy lens to have. For some occasional use. I wanted to ask if you would consider reviewing a medium format camera? I am not sure if I should get one and skip full format.

      Thanks. I have used several medium format cameras and I'm not big fan of them, but I might make a video, if I can borrow a camera.

    Thank you for an honest and informative review, Matti.
    Can you please elaborate on how the TTartisan compare to the Laowa 17mm f1.8 which you reviewed a few nonthes ago ?
    It's more expensive, but not by much.
    Thanks again for maintaining this excellent channel.

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  3 года назад +2

      I have not compared them side by side, but I’d say the Laowa is optically better. It’s shaper wide open, but by about f5.6 both are about the same. Laowa is of course only for MFT.

      I have Panasonic GX85. I am searching for a prime lens for landscape & street situations. Especially low light.
      Thanks again.

    it kind of looks like it has less of a digital look to it that would be good for video. it has a look to it that i can't quite figure out. It looks like a diffusion was used

    Dear Matti, let me have a question: you tested the lens on APSC format, but when it is used on MTF, than based on the smaller sensor size, the real picture comes more from the middle. So I think that the same lens would perform better on MTF frames. Both the corner sharpness and the vignetting. What do you think? Thanks

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  2 года назад +1

      Yes, you are correct. The less perfect outer parts of the image circle would be left out on MFT camera. However, the lower contrast and sharpness wide open would still be visible.

    Is 17mm wide on m4/3 ? ... to some degree. Many e-shops sells 25mm mft as "wide angle" ...

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  Год назад

      In photographic terminology something wider than the standard lens (50mm or EQV) is considered a wide angle. Whether that feels wide or not is, I guess, a personal opinion.

    I'm more than half way through this video and you haven't shown any photos or done anything but read the description while rubbing the lens in your hands. It's impossible to find info on a camera lens now that you tube has 50 reviews that say nothing of substance and hedge on their conclusion and try to hawk me shit from affiliate links.

    It is difficult to understand that, when buying a €2000,- camera, you would go for the cheapest lens option.

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  3 года назад +4

      You can buy both MFT and APSC cameras for under €1000 new and a lot less used. I used a €2000 camera, because it’s all I have😀

      @@mattisulanto It was a general remark, not aimed at you. It seems that people now hunt for the "best" (= expensive) camera but then are satisfied with a mediocer/manual lens. But if you are on a tight budget, second hand is a perfect option indeed. Both for camera AND lens.

    • @mattisulanto

      People buy these budget focal length just to try them occasionally. It would be too expensive to have a fast lens for every focal length. These are good enough for casual photography.

      Not every lens in set is basic for everyday use. Some is for use few times in a year. Personally I don't want everyday (street, indoor)length 17mm without AF, but more "conceptual" length fully manual ... why not

      I don't understand your comment, do you have something to prove such judgement? Chinese made lenses are advancing and interesting choices to photography, when people don't want to pay overpriced optical by Japanese, german.😂
