Teeming with marine wildlife, our oceans are full of fascinating stories - like that of the sperm whale, the biggest predator on earth, that lives in the Mediterranean alongside the elusive monk seal. Underwater filmmaker Thomas Behrend takes us to the habitat of the ocean sunfish with the help of a high-tech submarine camera.
    Part 1 - 00:00:00
Is there any truth in the legend that Sperm whales, the largest carnivores on earth, live in the depth of the Mediterranean? And what about the monk seals, one of the most endangered mammals on earth? Very little is known about the elusive seals that once populated most beaches from Greece to Spain.

WOW!!! That bit when a baby whale was born was so beautiful, how they all came together to protect the new mother as she gave birth and then chase away the cameraman as they also dealt with a new baby. I know we are not supposed to endow animals with human characteristics but wow how can we not when we see that? That was one of the most awe-inspiring bits of film I have seen in years. It was heartwarming to see the entire pod come together to support the new mother during the birth and then shoo away the cameraman while they welcomed the little one. If there is a Creator, which I hope, and believe there is, I also believe you are doing what He or She intended for us to do. You are the shepherds of this place, and you are the real M.V.P.'s. Just don't let that _fact_ go to your heads; stay humble, and keep on keepin' on.

By the way, i was once in Florida on vacation and went snorkling on the John Pennekamp State Coral Reef in the Gulf Stream. On the way back to the harbor a group of dolphins followed the boat and gave us a great show with jumps. They seem to do this naturally in different parts of the world.

Manatees are so playful where I grew up in FL (Pasco County, I love just a county over in Tampa so continue to go there ) .
They will come up as you clean your boats and play in the water if you spray the hose in their direction from the docks. They also sniff and wiggly their whiskers around . It’s sad cause people probably feed them at the sandbar so they now follow boats even more . Which ends up causing more injuries.
Weeki Wachee springs and Crystal River ,Florida , areas there are places you can swim with them too . Such magnificent creatures.

saving these precious creatures and stop robbing the planet and animals of
all the things they need for survival. We're supposed to work in harmony with all of creation, not be greedy and destroy so much! I pray that we still can halt the destruction of this marvelous planet and protect the creatures on it. Let

I recently watched a documentary about different species of whale. In one part of this documentary one of the whales was making almost the exact same sound as that seal you filmed when you were in the Mediterranean with those two different biologists, this "new puzzle" this film is titled titans of the deep filmed by a french film maker Francois something , perhaps you can look into it.

Considering we Americans don't live next door to multiple languages and countries that we can freely travel to it makes sense. Yes Spanish is almost the second language of the U.S. but, it is not mandatory for students to learn it. Just like German, French, Latin, Japanese, Mandarin/Cantonese. It's completely optional. And most don't try learning another language until they are out of school.

Would it be possible to extend the caves internally with a ramp that will allow the seals to get further from the water? I realize that it is more human interference. However, it's humans that drove them to the caves in the first place. But if the caves extended further back at a 30 degree slope with an artificial and braced area (like a mineshaft), the population of seals might be less vulnerable.

The fact that our creator made man to love him and care for and watch over all the earth and the creatures on it means we are not interfering when we do good things for THEM. We interfere when the reason we do things is for us. Like taking their beaches. We absolutely should have natural hospitals and give medical care to injured wild animals instead of this whole "let nature take its course" mentality. We should not interfere with hunting, but aside from that, we should most definitely clean up earth and care for the creatures of it. The major change we as a whole species would see if we actually cared for the earth, its creatures, and eachother would be so drastic, so emense, so brilliantly positive, that it would usher in an entirely new age of humanity, a new age of peace and well being. Far too many simply don't care. Thats not just sad but disastrous...

There's a really big problem here with these 2 gents thinking they've had a wonderful experience with these seals, showing the whole world & maybe some people who have bad intentions for the seals, such as capturing 1 or 2 baby seals for captivity! Showing this footage of the seal pups in such close proximity & the fearless & totally curious little pups, could well have been a bit of a bad idea, obviously I don't mean to put a dampener on this beautiful experience, but there's some really bad people on the planet, who's only thoughts are about how much money they could potentially make by going down the route of illegally selling seal pups etc to marine parks such as SeaWorld &/or other marine parks around the world, not saying SeaWorld would pay anyone for the wild animals, but I wouldn't put it past them! But Japan & China are very much in the lucrative business of marine parks & its only getting worse!
I don't want to offend anyone by saying any of this, im just simply making an observation! I realise that the 2 gents have had a magnificent experience with the seal pups, i would relish the opportunity to swim with seals or any marine mammals for that matter but some things are best left private, in other words, u dont need to show everyone in the world ur experiences, sometimes its ok to keep things to urself!
I just wanted to say this, but i am grateful to be watching such beautiful moments between human & wildlife once again! We're not all bad people! Most are not into harming animals & enjoy the documentaries that are posted on RUclips! So a big big thanks for your videos! I am sure all animal lovers are enjoying the viewing experience also! Peace Out & keep urselves & those animals u study safe! 🐋🐳🐬🐡🐙👍🏻✌🏻💙(soz 😅but i dnt have any emojis 4 seals😢)

You know... I actually kinda feel the same way you do about this. Not everyone may necessarily be simply enjoying God's Creation here...although I'd love to think so. All I know is that God controls every living thing, everywhere; and, as a single woman without a man to defend me (and all the other living things here in this perpetual Heaven on Earth), He Himself does it perfectly.

Crazy, same thing crossed my mind too when I looked into those innocent sweet eyes. The majority of people who watch that part won't have the means even if they have the intent. Unfortunately there may be a few. Even one is too many. And even more unfortunately, MANY with bad intent are already out there killing them off. My anger is boiling now just from saying it. Great insightful comment sir. Peace out to you too.

I really don't see how showing footage underwater is going to incentivize hurting animals. Anyone who wants to hunt or interfere with Sea Life knows where to go to do so. It's not like they're going to be able to track where these actual animals were to hunt them or something. This type of documentary usually does the opposite, lends understanding about sea animals.
Really beautiful footage, thanks for posting your studies.
