    In this deeply personal video, Logan, a courageous young individual, shares his journey of overcoming the trauma of being groomed by his camp counselor. Grooming is a manipulative process where an abuser builds a relationship with a child or adolescent, often for harmful purposes.
    If you or someone you know has experienced grooming or abuse, know that there is help and support available. Please consider reaching out to a trusted adult, counselor, or contacting organizations for assistance.

    I don’t care who you are, where you are, who you’re with, and when a situation occurs- say something always, especially with children involved!
    Predators intentionally target single mothers who constantly work and are stretched thin. It should be required for parents to

    I'm 32 and I've worked with kids for four years - advice to young people reading and parents - never "full" hug an adult, if you do and the adult taps you or backs away it's not a slight to you, it's setting a boundary. never ever follow your teachers on social media or any other adults in your life (except your primary guardian). if an adult tries to add you on social media report their account. never post photos with any of your school or towns logos. it's best practice to keep your office or room open- if a kid needs to have a private Convo still leave the door ajar. if you ever suspect abuse of any kind you are required by law to report it- that's any adult meaning 18+ mist report any type of abuse or harassment. I could keep going, but at least where I live we have to take multiple courses every year about child abuse. I highly recommend requesting them from your local school board if you're a parent. if anyone needs any resources, I'll do my best to point you in the right direction. ❤ thank you for sharing your story

    • @NotAnotherKuromi
      @NotAnotherKuromi 4 месяца назад +1

      I agree with all of your advice apart from if an adult tries to add a child on social media, I think they should tell a parent/guardian instead.
      I really think telling a child to report every adult who requests to follow them is unwise. It is not even against the rules of most social media, so which do you think tuey should report them under? Those false reports take up resources to identify the actual child predators. Plus the child might not have their age shown, so the adult didn't know. The adult may be a relative or family friend, or even just in a fandom the child happens to be in and mean no harm. The other boanket rules about not dosclosing information is good but reporting somone for the mere attempt at contact is overboard and ill-advised.
      There is so much nuance and communicating with parents/guardian is always best. The child should also find different rules their family follows. For example my newphew (a child) and I (an adult) are friends on facebook, his parents encouraged it to keep in touch with family.
      I also think it is good to focus on "stranger danger" and to get kids to understand that just because they chat with somone a lot, or watch their content, does bot mean they are a friend or somone they can trust, for example I know quite a few children who were predated upon by famouse minecraft youtubers.

    • @Samalys71
      @Samalys71 4 месяца назад

      @@NotAnotherKuromi I didn't say if they follow an adult on socials they should have to tell their parents * unless it is a stranger or they're not sure (opening a dialogue). The parents can help them learn who is okay to follow and who not to. every parent is different. I'm of the mind to err on the strict side. I'm saying if you're a kid and a teacher or some adult you met a couple times tries to request you or send you "private messages" then you should report the account. There is 0 reason I should request any of the kids I work with socials. it's just not appropriate and i let them know it's not appropriate. however I understand groups and following creators, but the private Dms get into very grey territory. I personally don't think a child can fully grasp that a RUclipsr isn't actually their friend. they may value their audience and chat, but you really just don't know 🤷🏼‍♀️ there are a lot of nuances this is just my advice from what I've seen mainly for kids in middles school who are the most vulnerable. high school kids have gained some emotional maturity. levels are also important so, for example you can let your kid follow family only in MS and then let them add friends/creators is HS with some healthy boundaries and rules.

    Logan is a hero. His persistence in fighting for justice and safety for all the kids in the school system, church, and camp will have a lifelong positive impact on each of those kids, even if they don't know it. As someone who tried to report abuse in the public school system and was silenced and ostracized because of it, thank you for never giving up and for sharing your story. ❤

    28:40 secrets vs surprises is a very important thing to teach kids. A secret can be bad, but a surprise is good. A surprise is kept from someone for a little bit, but is not a secret, nothing bad will happen if you tell someone.

I never spoke to him 1 on 1 but I saw him every Sunday. Absolutely wild.

    I always tell my campers if something feels wrong trust your gut. Boundaries are so important to establish with kids you work with! It’s astonishing that people still think to this day that kids don’t remember things that happened to them. That they won’t understand. They may not at the time necessarily but they will eventually

    Babeeee the head counselor was "writing it up" when a grown man had children on his lap?!? STOP GIVING THE HEAD COUNSELOR A PASS. This person was complicit. You at 26 KNOW this behavior is unacceptable. Why are you giving this person a pass? You would just write down poor behavior and not immediately step in..? Give it a few more years of growing and maturing, and i think youll have a different perceptive on this situation.

      as someone who saw it firsthand the head counselor did physically/verbally intervene whenever they were present. it was the culture of the camp that allowed that counselor to remain employed there despite the numerous reports. Logan recounts himself that the head counselor got so fed up they went to the washington post regarding staff ignoring/covering up the perverse counselor’s behavior.

    When explaining things to kids and they don’t understand the weight of it, I ask them to think about all the absurd things they believed when they were five years old, and how much smarter they are now. It’s the same thing with being grown. There are some things you simply can’t wrap your head around yet, so its even more important to be aware of the dangers

    The other camp counselors are definitely at fault as well. They may be great people and all but they let this strange behavior and foul language go on for wayyyy too long. One mess up, Steve could have gotten away with a warning. But the second time, he should have been removed. Absolutely unacceptable that so many people let this go on.
