As a Brisbane Marine Pilot I piloted the Pacific Dawn and Pacific Jewel in and out of Brisbane many times. They were notoriously difficult to handle at low speeds. However, the quality of the bridge team was exceptional. They all knew the ship was a dog for Pilots but they worked at a First Class level to help you do a good job. I made a cruise on her sister the CROWN PRINCESS when she sailed as A'ROSA BLU in 2003 in the Mediterranean. I can remember that we called at Barcelona and berthed in its harbour basin right in the centre next to Barcelona's World Trade Center, with the red cabins of the funicular crossing over A'ROSA BLU on their way to or from Montjuic. I enjoyed the cruise on her very much. The only thing that I missed on this Renzo Piano design was the limited open deck space with windward railings due to that hood above the wheel house which mimics a dolphin's forehead bulge I guess.

That's the question. I'd guess that they have other companies within/as part of, these cruise ship companies and there is outside revenue from those. Probably revenue from other sectors of the economy being used to stay afloat. These businesses have never been able to survive as standalone businesses. Same as the airlines; airlines are always broke also. Very seldom, is it how it looks on the surface. There's a story attached to everything.
30 years is a fair effort. Can't see cruising ever recovering especially seeing cruisings place in the forefront of spreading the disease in the first place.
If there were enough health care people available it would have been a nice idea to use the old cruise ships as floating hospitals for the increasing number of people who are becoming seriously ill from the Covid virus. Of course there would be too many hurdles to jump over to do that, it would have been nice if the hurdles could be overcome.

That's a bit sad. The Pacific Dawn was our first and last cruise experience. We sailed Brisbane to Pacific Islands and back in May 2013. Half way into the trip our daughter got a "novo" virus and was quarantined for the rest of the trip. Smarter travelers had bought travel calm, panadol and gastro stop with them and said nothing. They were fine in a day but we had to put up with a medical crew who knew little and spoke even less English. Air conditioning problems and 5 days became enough time at sea for us. We sailed back into The Port of Brisbane where we were taken back to Hamilton by bus. But we did love the breakfasts and the slaves (crew) were great so we gave them a nice tip and said our goodbyes.
I dont underdsand why Turkey is scrapping them - why don't they just adopt them, ensure booked rooms are spaced so there is NO _Covid Congestion_ and keep them sailing ???? 🛁🚣⛵⚓🏰⛵🚣⛲🏬🛀⛵🏊⛵🏄🗿⛵🗻⚓ *PLEASE TURKEY l BEG YOU. THIS IS FAR TOO TRAGIC ...*

Beloved cruise ships??! Just a perfect example of the disgusting designs that have been built to cater for the sad cruising market. The more of these that head to the scrapyard the better. Venice will be a better place with these dreadful creations scrapped.

How the hell are these companies staying afloat???
That's the question. I'd guess that they have other companies within/as part of, these cruise ship companies and there is outside revenue from those. Probably revenue from other sectors of the economy being used to stay afloat. These businesses have never been able to survive as standalone businesses. Same as the airlines; airlines are always broke also. Very seldom, is it how it looks on the surface. There's a story attached to everything.
30 years is a fair effort. Can't see cruising ever recovering especially seeing cruisings place in the forefront of spreading the disease in the first place.
How much do these go for?
If asked about a place that I hate... Well that is Alang and all Indian shipbreaking cities
Son Hermosa naves que tristesa feel as desapareser!!!

may they both rest in pieces
If there were enough health care people available it would have been a nice idea to use the old cruise ships as floating hospitals for the increasing number of people who are becoming seriously ill from the Covid virus.
Of course there would be too many hurdles to jump over to do that, it would have been nice if the hurdles could be overcome.
Just about one of the most idiotic suggestions I’ve ever heard.
M.s Marco Polo scrapped, died in India, this month.
You go first for vaccine.
Better to scrap and recycle these ships instead of blotting the seascape they will not be used for ages.
She has been saved I thought

Wtf
Beloved cruise ships??!
Just a perfect example of the disgusting designs that have been built to cater for the sad cruising market.
The more of these that head to the scrapyard the better.
Venice will be a better place with these dreadful creations scrapped.
