So now you know the difference, have you ever travelled on an Ocean Liner?

      Yes. QE2 and QM2.

Yes. I was on board when QM2 made her 400th Transatlantic Crossing 😊

Yes, on QE2 after one of her "shakedown" cruises after her regular services.I also went from Liverpool to Lagos in 1965 on the MV Aureol the flagship of Elder Dempster line.
      She was only 14,000 tonnes.

And the SS France was a dual purpose liner, which made it an attractive option for NCL.

    • @ChrisFrameOfficial
      @ChrisFrameOfficial  3 дня назад +2

Interestingly the SS. France didn’t originally feature many of the elements that ultimately made her a successful cruise ship. When Knut Kloster bought the France people thought he was mad, but the refurbishment in Bremerhaven effectively transformed her into a dual purpose design that was then almost exclusively used for cruising. The addition of the outdoor entertainment areas, enhancement of interior spaces for cruising and addition of the big tender boats made it possible for her to effectively operate in the cruise market.

I was lucky enough to experience six voyages between England and South Africa aboard various union-castle liners. On one occasion we transited the Bay of Biscay during wind force 9 conditions.... No reduction of speed was required, we maintained a steady 22knots!

If I was ever lucky enough to do a transatlantic crossing, the only ship I would consider would be QM2. I've never sailed on a liner.

    Excellent video.
My very first voyage when i was a young boy was on Oriana (1960) on a three weeks Christmas cruise to Hawaii.
She was a very fast Ocean liner and on those long distances at sea she would often reach speeds of 27 knots.
I also travelled on the Canberra to Hong Kong Queen Elizabeth 2 from New York to Sydney and Queen Mary 2 from Fremantle.
All were amazing ships and travelling on Ocean liners was a very special experience.

@@ChrisFrameOfficial I went through heavy seas on the QE2 and the Canberra,
Both ships handled these conditions very well. On the voyage I did on Canberra, QE2 and Canberra were docked side by side at the Ocean Terminal in Hong Kong. They looked impressive together.
My personal favourite of the two ships to travel on was the QE2.

Time and time again I am confronted with "but I sailed on a liner" (when it was only a cruise ship). Now I will send them the link to your superb video with its explanation, thank you.

I propose that qe2 & qm2 are cruise liners. A hybrid of a liner and cruise ship. Built to liner standards but with accommodations and resort features of a cruise ship. This can make for a more pleasant experience for passengers.

I hope the Astoria is saved. 🥺 I have mostly traveled on Baltic ferries and I don't think they qualify as ocean liners. They look more like cruise ships, even though they kind of do the job of a liner. I once took a round trip around Gran Canaria. I don't think that was an ocean liner either. That ship just went all around Gran Canaria and nowhere else. (I don't know the name of that ship because it was before I cared about things like that).

I already knew the question and I knew the answer which is that an ocean liner is a vessel that is designed to handle crossings across a vast ocean like the Atlantic or the Pacific where is the cruise liner is only designed to handle which called safe and light Harbor type of operations she will only cruise in which Cole safe waters if you ask the cruise liner to cross Atlantic Ocean to be asking for the risk a lot the love boat could never survive in Electra Crossing
