Thank you for addressing the first question. I didn’t want to comment on past videos because I felt it was unfair to your experience and trauma, but it did sadden me to see so many comments addressing Nicaragua in such a negative way due to the actions of a few people. My husband is Nicaraguan (now a US citizen) and we visit Nicaragua about 2x a year. It is my favorite place on the planet. AND it is also a third world country; with that comes poverty, desperation, and corruption. That’s important for people of other [more privileged] nationalities to remember and not villainize, but instead empathize with a people who have extreme hardships. None of that justifies what happened to your family and I continue to be devastated for you. I appreciate that you are still able to sit in front of us and speak fondly of your time in another country while also sharing the heartbreaking circumstances of your experience.
I feel the same way about the West Indies or anywhere you are aware that the consumerism from tourists is what makes your income. The lack of support from government in these place that makes the country desperate as a whole is saddening. The place itself is innocent.
So grateful for this wrap up and for the answers to so many big and small questions. It was great to hear your voice again as it became very familiar during the few weeks that the videos were initially made and released. I was gripped by your story and moved by your strength in the whole process. You are looking well also, after being home and settled a while. Of course I'm sure like many others here, I would be happy to support your efforts in whatever way, if any, you chose to further tell this story. If this is truly the closing of the chapter, I want to thank you for sharing this intense part of your lives and giving us an understanding of your experience.
I can’t believe me searching for videos by Canadians doing RA and selling on Amazon, of all things, is what led me to your channel tonight and subsequently bingeing this whole story. Kudos to you for sharing it and all best to your family in healing! (And shoutout to Nicole, she’s a real one!)
Wow!!! That is such an Understatement! I have had sooo much anxiety living this through your beautiful and kind narration. It’s such a scary nightmare, yet it’s filled with so much hope! I absolutely feel grateful you were brave enough to share this. It shows how there is still kind, loving and generous humans on the planet! Loved the show of kindness and sense or urgency by everyone that had the chance and opportunity to help you along this horrible situation. God Bless you and your family!❤
I just finished watching your complete journey. I am in awe that you all survived this! You are completely amazing and I could only WISH to have the wonderful friends that you have! You are an inspiration to me! I'm so happy to hear that you are all in counseling and I hope it helps heal you and your family.❤
Allison- you are so strong for sharing all this! And what a great friend Nicole is…wishing you both, and the whole clan, the most peace and healing 🥰🙏🏻💖
Watched the whole thing!! Wishing you and your family nothing but the best. You look like a coworker i once had and that’s why i initially started watching lol. Thank you for sharing love!!😊
Thank you for sharing your story. You shared a part of your lives that people are now aware of that could happen to them in different countries. This could happen on a travel vacation to anyone. Your friend is an amazing friend. And all the honest people you have encountered along the way. Take care of yourself and your family 💜
I watched this whole series. You did a great job. You are still living with the ramifications of all this, but you lived through hell and were strong enough to make it out.
TY again for sharing all this & for Nicole. It takes a village. I do have 1 last question tho. In hindsight, would contacting the Canadian embassy as soon as it happened be the better choice than depending on the locals? I.e. my 1st thought was, "Why not immediately contact embassy once Harrison was taken to jail?". I'm asking for others who may have watched this & wonder, "what is best course of action when faced w/ legal issues as an expat in another country?" Best wishes to you & your family for continued good health & wealth.
I'm glad that you exposed "Mark" to be Nicholas. No one should be shielded in that situation. It seems to be the case from the whole story that he's got tentacles into a lot of things and is defensive because he needs to maintain a "story" to tell around town and keep his business running. I know it sucks to have to actually expose someone, but there's no question it's the best thing to know for sure there's no chance that he was acting in your interest and he knew all along that the lawyers were going to run a scam. Sadly, SO many expats in SJDS provide references for scammers. It's a problem that we talk about a lot outside of the SJDS that the expats there are the real danger. Like Tony the famous Rad Pad scammer who became a brand name of scams nation wide. Of course lots of great people there too, but there's so much risk. It's easy to produce a large number of references for any given scam. It's awful and scary. Did you happen to see the official license of the "lawyers" that Nicholas provided? All lawyers must produce a license from the supreme court. It's similar to a drivers license. If you can share the names of the corrupt lawyers, privately is fine, I can pass the info along.
RE Snowbirding: One of the channenges that Canadians face with Nicaragua is that there are no direct flights and no good flights of any kind. American don't have that, they have $70 direct flights reguarly. So for us (we Texans) one of the reasons we originally chose Nicaragua was that we could be home with family in Houston an hour faster than we could get to them from our old house in Dallas. We were "so close" to family that it was just as good as being local in the same state. We had an emergency including a child death in the family ten years ago and had to be home immediately and we were able to fully relocation from Nicaragua to Texas in just 14 hours. From getting the news to being on the ground with family. Faster than we could get from Dallas to Ohio for another family tragedy years later. That's a big deal. For Americans it's a big deal that Nicaragua is essentially local. ANd for Canadians it's a big deal that it is several hops and a lot of money away. My wife's best friend lives in Edmonton and comes and goes to Leon often and it's a huge expense and a huge hassle. But we go home just to do the shopping! Different worlds. Sucks that practical logistics make Nicaragua so difficult for you guys or else the family and friend support network back home in Canada wouldn't feel so far away,.
The numbers don’t matter ~ your health and your family’s happiness matters the most. I wish I could have given more! I’m keeping all of you, including the amazing Nicole, in my prayers.
Thank you so much for this video. I appreciate your transparency. Edit to ask about your health? How are you feeling and I know you were talking about another surgery?
Wishing you all the best, Allison. Thank YOU for sharing this story. So many content creators only show the rainbows and roses of their lives and it sends a false impression to the viewers. I feel like I need to go back and watch all the parts of this drama you posted because things changed by the minute.
A nation's judicial system is its most important thing. It doesn't matter how beautiful a country is, if they do not have not solid rights for the people while having a horrible and unjust judicial system, encouraging corruption and extortion, with no judicial recourse, it is not at all a good country.
Allison I think your instinct of not wanting your hubby to come on camera is because you are protective of him, especially since he has been through so much the last year. I don't blame you.
How long was Greg in jail and for what reason? I literally DROVE by this accident on Easter Sunday with my 10 year old and my heart dropped because I had JUST heard as an expat that to be in an accident even if you’re not at fault is really scary. I don’t know you personally but couldn’t get you guys out of my mind. I saw your husband and daughter sitting on the steps of peace and cake. So glad you are home safe.
Can you say which hospital you used? Our experience in Vivian Pellas is that you simply pay at the end, none of the "pay as you go." Still have to pay, of course, but the mechanism has been different when we used it. AMOCSA in the west, we give payment when we arrive and then a bill at the end as well. But every private hospital can use their own mechanism, of course. It's just random that the ones we've used have seemed similar. But we never use insurance either, always found it more effective just paying out of pocket. I tried to pay attention but don't think you mentioned which hospital you chose.
She did say that she was in Vivian Pellas. She had insurance and used it all up. Again, there are no numbers. She also said that the rest of the bill was around $60,000 dollars. This seems quite high to me.

Lawyers in Latin America do not specialize and to me you needed a criminal lawyer since jail was involved. Seriously consider selling it to Netflix. People need to know about the potential of things that can happen and be prepared. Plus you deserve getting some money from it.
If you do write a book about your time in Nicaragua you should title it "Ignorant Foreigners", or, "It's all About the Money". I watch a lot videos of "first world" people who travel through or move to "2nd" or "3rd world" countries. They are always amazed at how much cheaper is it to buy food, land and medical care in these 2nd and 3rd world countries. They always wonder why can't things be as cheap back in their home countries? Living in a 2nd or 3rd world country they feel like they are living a Temu kind of life. They're living like a billionaire! Meanwhile the poverty level around them is insane. When these 1st world transplants get themselves into trouble in their new cheaper to live in country why do they expect to have the same rights that they had back in their home countries? Don't be so ignorant. Human rights and the rule of law are why it costs so much to live in your home country. You took the risk to live like a billionaire. It's no ones fault but your own.
@@amberpineau1616 He also sounds like someone who doesn't know Nicaragua at all. THere is very strong rule of law, far more than in NOrth America in fact. Slower law, perhaps, but much more rigid and straightforward.

News flash: The most powerful country in the world has corruption too, we're just better at hiding it from the general public (in most cases).
You sound like someone who didn't watch all the first videos.
@@amberpineau1616 He also sounds like someone who doesn't know Nicaragua at all. THere is very strong rule of law, far more than in NOrth America in fact. Slower law, perhaps, but much more rigid and straightforward.
Shes telling her story to create awareness.
Yikes dude
