This LEGO build isn't square

  • This design is a variation on a smaller build ('Hinging Squares') scaled down to make things easier to iterate: • This LEGO build is not...
I think I'm calling this one 'Hinging Squares within Squares within Squares'. No, it does not roll off the tongue, but it's fairly accurate considering how dynamic and complex this build/pattern is. I see this as a geometric art piece that you could hang on your wall, and then change it up whenever you like. Not how a typical piece of art behaves, but that's the magic of it. 😊
Note: Like all of my kinetic LEGO builds, after a few rounds of 'hinging' the plates need to be tightened down--otherwise they start to pop off, which makes it a bit less fun 🤪

This video was an experiment in some ways. I normally try to hide as many individual clicks as I can, while still showing how the build comes together. There wasn't a great way to do that with this build other than skip 'clicks' in the process, so I decided to include every necessary click. Not sure if I'll continue to do that, but if you're looking for a lot of LEGO ASMR, here you go. 😁

In some ways, to me this is just like one of those jokes from Family Guy where you think you know where the joke is going, but then it keeps on going and going until you almoust laugh yourself to death in the process. Peter and the dead frog, Peter hurts his knee and so on. Or perhaps I’m just a weirdo doing a weird association here? I don’t know... 🤷🏼‍♂️
