potters journal - Could you tell me more about your grandmother's sweet potato? Was it planted in a soil container? I ask, because I want to do this, as we eat the sweet potato leaves...
@@0Iive if you plant them in the ground they grow into huge plants that you can get potatoes from, if you leave it just as a potato in water it will start to rot
This was fantastic! We went through the same steps, and apparently we planted all of ours upside down! The roots started coming out from the bottom around the same time that the vines erupted right at the water line. I had contemplated cutting up the potato, thinking that we should plant each vine with a section of potato. Based on your video, we will instead break off each vine and continue to propagate them individually in water.
i read on a gardening site that the blunt end of the potato is the BOTTOM and the pointy end is the TOP! HOWEVER, it doesn’t matter which end of the potato goes in the glass! ☺️ 🍠🥔 great video, you earned a sub!! i LOVE THIS VIDEO🔥🔥♥️
This is awesome. I am doing a series on growing these from true seeds. Have you ever seen a sweet potato seed? If your sweet potato flowers, just let the Bees pollinate it and you will get your own seeds. If you plant a sweet potato on its side you will eventually get shoots all the way along the potato. If you plant them in trays of moist soil they will produce shoots for a few years.
My sweet Potato grew one long stem in 3 days! It kept growing so fast it started twirling itself around the chain of my hanging fruit basket. It just kept climbing up. I killed it when I removed it from the actual sweet potato. I’m back to growing another. It looks so pretty climbing up my kitchen window. Thanks for the tip, I’t will help when I try to remove it again :)
Mine grew so big and beautiful for 4 months.Just recently the leaves started turning yellow.I grew it in water .I had another one already in soil and was turning yellow as well.
This is so cool! I've never grown sweet potatoes this way, but I have grown regular potatoes this way a couple times. Maybe I'll try this out this year!
HOLY SWEET ROOTS‼️ Thanks tons🤯 I seem to have obscured thoughts on any topic, I Love your Beautiful & thorough commentary. I couldnt figure my tater tops from bottoms. Keeping my spuds in the dark with just a tiny bit of misting showed me whats up, and down. Sweeties are my fav also❤️
I went on a trip and came back and a sweet potato had a little sprout thing sticking out of it and I was like 'well let's see where this goes' then I come back from a two week trip yesterday and now there's a giant stem thing sticking out of it and I guess this was pretty helpful since I now have a sweet potato plant😂😂
We eat this and grow it in my culture all the time .we dont take cuttings we cut the root in half and re apply to glass the top green leafy part to the water jar to grow roots then pot plant up as usual .then wait for sweet potaoes ...but the bottom with roots we just plant into ground it will grow stems and leaves and then the sweet is potatoes .they are a vigorous grower s this way you get 2 plants at different stages
So I sprayed my leaves with some fertilizer/spray (Oops!) All of my leaves wilted so I had to cut a lot of leaves off. Will my leaves grow back from the same plant or should I propagate and start over?
Hello - Jolene Foliage - this is more of a Compliment as onto - THE VERY PERSON (or Persona) that You (@ least in my mind/body/heart/soul!!! I'm here for the sweet potatoes but had to give you a mention on the intro beat. Also, a question and sorry but I've just found your station. My question is I have a nice vine growing in my aquarium but I am curious can the vine grow under the water completely submerged? Thank you and great video.
Hehe! Thanks love! I discovered it a little while ago from instagram! The roots started to develop six weeks after it's been in water, and the leaves came out about two weeks later. And in another two weeks, I had all those amazing long vines you saw in the video! You should try it, it's so satisfying to see it grow!
I had the same thing when I was growing my sweet potato vine and I just flipped it, because I didn’t know which side was up. Three days after flipping it, I already had roots! Now the vine is covering some of my kitchen cabinets! 😍
I have 2 water propogated sweet potato vines. 😊 My sister was growing a garden and had sweet potato growing so I just clipped 2 pieces and they had roots sprouting within 3 days?!
I grew my own sweet potato in water and it actually worked! Sadly I had to throw it away because it started to become soggy, water was yellow and it smelt weird. Not sure if I did something wrong or of you can old keep it for so long before throwing it away
My sweet potato is growing vines on the side, so I'm putting it in a little bit of water on the window and see what happens. I used to grow both potato and sweet potato vines in the other house but hadn't even thought about it until this one sprouted in the potato basket.
Just soak the grocery store bought sweet potstoe in some baking soda and vinegar, you should always wash your produce in this solution anyway, but it'll remove all chemicals off the sweet potatoe.
Not sure if i understand the question, but Japaneses sweet potato vines (Ipomoea batatas) are climbing edible vines that produce tuberous/ edible roots :)
@@JoleneFoliage I want to know is it annual plant like the ornamental sweet potato vine.one more question how much time u can keep it indoor.is it indoor or outdoor.?
@@GeetaandRajeev This is a ornamental sweet potato vine, it usually grows as a perennial in U.S. hardiness zones 9 to 11. I have been keeping it indoor the whole time, but it's really up to you where you want to put it. I've seen some people even use it as ground cover.
You are amazingly beautiful and playful. I can tell you how to tell which side is up. I was from farm family. Check the top cut, if both end have been cut, the small cut mostly is bottom, if one side has not been cut, that is bottom for sure. Because top always been cut/splitting from mother root. So the cut is must there.
5 weeks? Oh okay, thank goodness. I got 3 sweet potatoes, left them in water and it's been 10 days and so far nothing's happened except one has a bunch of mould in the water (might mean it's dead, but I think there's a chance there was mould on the skin so it could still be okay). But okay, so I'll give it some more time then!
Can’t help but giggle when i try asking my potato who’s the top and who’s the bottom 😊😊
Your enthusiasm comes through in your videos, could see your channel getting quite big. Thanks for the content.

How long can I keep my potato in water before I need to plant it?

sure thats what they do, the potatoe is full of nutrients for growth, but they wont grow new root bulbs...

So. Does one place it in the shade or sun to start growing ??????

My favorite sweet potato vine. yesterday I brought ornamental sweet potato vine and put it in water.how much time it will take the roots to come out.
It took me almost 6-7 weeks to see root development, and 1-2 weeks later, the stems started to come out.
Following! I transferred an outdoor plant into a fish tank and water. Hope it works.

Pretty sure it needed soil! Potatoes rot and die after a while in water. I’m not exactly sure how she keeps it so long in water
You gotta change the water every 1-2 weeks :)
Does this work on normal potatoes or not? Pkease
What part of the Sweet Potatoe Plant is eatable? How do you cook it? Are the stems also eatable or just the leaves?
I think both leaves and tuber are edible! You could saute the leaves or eat as salad.
