    hi! i’ve been growing a sweet potato vine for a couple months now. the vines are growing like crazy, but the potato itself is starting to rot. should i move it to soil, or should i try to propagate the vines and put those in water by themselves?

    Thanks for the video. This is my second go and this time the potato continues to look healthy and I am starting to see the white roots. Once the plants look like yours in this video, do we just pot the entire potato with roots covered and sprouts above the soil with the potato tip?

      Hi Denise, congratulations you propagated this plant successfully. You should plant the entire body into the soil and leave the sprout for the leaves to come out :)

    I think the one that's not growing so well may do better the other way up? I saw little leaves growing from that end, if I'm not mistaken. ... I know it's years later ;)

      Hi Nancy, based on this video, Even any side of the potato, the important thing that you should consider is the healthy potato that you will use in propagation :)

      It actually does matter. You want to put the end with slips(sprouts) up otherwise the potato will die off. Homestead has a very good you tube video about doing this.

      Hi Thumper, only the bottom part of the tuber is soaked in water not the entire body :)

    I've tried to do this twice and both times the part that was in the water to grow the roots basically rotted. What am I doing wrong? I changed the water often and nothing grew in 4-5 weeks, the bottom of the potatoe just rotted out.

    Would it be correct to dig these out of the pot when they die back in the fall and store them in my garage over the winter and plant in the ground springtime? Thank you!

      Hi Adriana, unfortunately based on my experience, the time it will take from fall to winter will make the sweet potato die before you can plant it on the ground :)

    Thank you so much. I don't really like the toothpicks it looks kind of "cruel" I'll use a glass for hyacinths . Don't forget to use organic potatoes, regular potatoes are treated and don't sprout. GOD bless, from Canada (Gordon's wife)

      Hi, sorry to hear that. It seems that your potatoes got root rot. But you can try propagating again. Use healthier potatoes :)

      Yes, even me is not perfect in propagating plants. I just learned from my failures. Plants have their own behavior that we need to adjust ourselves so we can take care of them very well :)

      Hi Som, thanks for always appreciating my videos. The root will come out and grow well after 36 days. You can transfer the rooted tuber on a potting mix soil or cow dung manure. Also, you have to place them in an area with enough sunlight. Thanks.
