hi! i’ve been growing a sweet potato vine for a couple months now. the vines are growing like crazy, but the potato itself is starting to rot. should i move it to soil, or should i try to propagate the vines and put those in water by themselves?
Thanks for the video. This is my second go and this time the potato continues to look healthy and I am starting to see the white roots. Once the plants look like yours in this video, do we just pot the entire potato with roots covered and sprouts above the soil with the potato tip?
Hi Denise, congratulations you propagated this plant successfully. You should plant the entire body into the soil and leave the sprout for the leaves to come out :)
I think the one that's not growing so well may do better the other way up? I saw little leaves growing from that end, if I'm not mistaken. ... I know it's years later ;)
Hi Nancy, based on this video, Even any side of the potato, the important thing that you should consider is the healthy potato that you will use in propagation :)
It actually does matter. You want to put the end with slips(sprouts) up otherwise the potato will die off. Homestead has a very good you tube video about doing this.
Adela I have a big problem with growing sweet potatoes in a glass jar and I put it in a window with bright light. What am I doing wrong?🤷🙂 Thanks for your video.
I've tried to do this twice and both times the part that was in the water to grow the roots basically rotted. What am I doing wrong? I changed the water often and nothing grew in 4-5 weeks, the bottom of the potatoe just rotted out.
Would it be correct to dig these out of the pot when they die back in the fall and store them in my garage over the winter and plant in the ground springtime? Thank you!
Hi Adriana, unfortunately based on my experience, the time it will take from fall to winter will make the sweet potato die before you can plant it on the ground :)
Thank you so much. I don't really like the toothpicks it looks kind of "cruel" I'll use a glass for hyacinths . Don't forget to use organic potatoes, regular potatoes are treated and don't sprout. GOD bless, from Canada (Gordon's wife)
Yes, even me is not perfect in propagating plants. I just learned from my failures. Plants have their own behavior that we need to adjust ourselves so we can take care of them very well :)

Hi Adela B Good evening Good to see Sweet potato rooting in water. Enjoyed the Vedio as usual. After how many days and which Potting soil mix, pot size, it should be Planted to make it Bushy as well My regards
Hi Som, thanks for always appreciating my videos. The root will come out and grow well after 36 days. You can transfer the rooted tuber on a potting mix soil or cow dung manure. Also, you have to place them in an area with enough sunlight. Thanks.
My grandmother used to grow sweet potatoes in water. This brings back happy memories. I plan to try myself. Thanks
Hi, thanks for I inspired you to grow one. Thanks for watching my videos :)

Hi Lynn, you can do it, if you failed, you can try again until you succeed propagating. Goodluck, and you can give me some updates if you wish :)

both work :)
Wat if i dnt want to harvest them.just keep the grown plants as indoor decor? Possible? N hw abt low light growing in water?
do you need to keep the potato once grown or can you cut the plant from the potato?

Thank you so much for your suggestion :)
Does it matter which end is submerged?
Yes, it should be submerged in water
How do you know which side of the potato should be facing upwards/downwards?
Hi Zaprude, you can tell them by following the roots from the tuber.
Should I change the water sometimes while the roots are growing? If yes, how often?
Hi Sarah, in this video, I change the water once or twice every week :)
Can anyone tell whick side is up and which one is down?

Cynthia Curti
Cynthia Curtis you're right,, she has the " unhealthy" potato upside down I can see small leaves drowning in there!!🇨🇵💋
Do you put them in light or leave them in the dark to sprout?
Hi Ericia, I placed them in shaded area :)
What does it mean when it soaks up water, goes soft and starts moulding around the skyewers?
Hi Thumper, only the bottom part of the tuber is soaked in water not the entire body :)
@@AdelaBespejo yeh mine sucked up the water so it was half soft its in the bin now, must not have been organic

Hi Kathy, sad to hear that. Did you use a healthy part of the potato tuber?

Hi Adriana, unfortunately based on my experience, the time it will take from fall to winter will make the sweet potato die before you can plant it on the ground :)
Did you plant the whole potato in soil after?
Hi Mary, it can be planted in soil after it has roots or remain in water :)
Thank you. Mine is starting to root.
After this do you plant the whole potato in soil and leave the leaves above ground? Thank you for the video (o:

Hi Thalia, sorry to hear that. Did you placed in shaded area? and make sure that the water is changed every 3 days.
is it necessary to plant them in soil or they can stay in water too?
Hi Kosha, I would suggest planting them in soil after rooting them to grow more tubers and leaves. :)

bro it's just a potato, it doesnt feel pain...i think O_O
Thanks for the tip tho
Yes I went to jail once for cutting into the heart of an artichoke!!😎💋
which side should be in water
Hi, it should be the root part the bottom most part of the tuber :)
Should we need to change water everyday?
Hi Logesh, I suggest that you change the water every 3 days to avoid mosquitoes but it is better if you have time to change every day :)
My potatoes got soft, literally squishy. Felt like the insides turned to water, but not modly. Any ideas what happened?
Hi, sorry to hear that. It seems that your potatoes got root rot. But you can try propagating again. Use healthier potatoes :)
@@AdelaBespejo thanks for your reply!! Was hoping that wasn't the case 😭 but I'll try again!

should water be changed?
Hi Wissal, the water could be change once every 3 days or 1 week :)
Does it requires direct sunlight??
Hi Manthan, it can be placed in shaded area :)
great should I Add nutrients
Very good idea
Thank you always Sabita :)
Can this then be potted into compost, and grown as a house plant?
Hello Paul, yes you can grow them as houseplants but you need to give them sunlight once in a while to grow well.
Adela B Hi Adela, thank you for replying, I shall definitely give this a go! 👍🏻
Hi - do you need to use toothpicks? Can you use something else?
Hi Teress, yes, you can use something that will hold the sweet potato in position. :)
Spoil it 3tyms what can I do tell me pl
Hi Priti, did you follow the right water level for your propagation ? Thanks :)
My sweet potato is growing well, but the roots are not growing at all anymore and look like they are about to die soon...I am worried about them
Hai Kianna, sebaiknya gunakan umbi yang sehat agar peluang bertahan hidup lebih besar :)
The one in pink was upside down. You got leaves instead of roots. If you flip it over it would root!
Wow, thanks for sharing your idea and observation. :)
Sweet potato gives oxygen or carbon dioxide
Wow, thanks for sharing your knowledge. :)
All green plants release oxygen as a by-product of photosynthesis.
I think you put the potato's upside down in to the water.
I was looking for this comment, I was about to say the same thing. That's probably why the other one started rotting. The sprouted one was a survivor.
