My paternal grandfather, Frank Soboleski, was a member of Easy Company and was alive and well when Band of Brothers was made. I was grateful to attend the MN premiere in August 2001 with my grandfather and family. Frank declined to correspond w/Ambrose in the 70s because he wanted that experience behind him, and his time was occupied with raising a family of four on blue collar wages. He started sharing more in the 1980s and '90s, I remember being regaled by my grandfather's WWII parachute stories as a little girl. By 2001, he was happy to share his story and join the living members of Easy Company. Frank lived until May 2017.

@kevinwebster7868 yep, and that was, uh... 23 years ago? This has never been a go-to "flex" for me, lol --- I'm deeply proud of my grandfather's military career in WWII, but I do have my own life and talents, and prefer to focus upon what I've contributed to the world, as menial as it is. Since 2001, I've made a total of 5 online mentions to my Grandfather being an integral part of Easy Co., in spite of not being a major character in Ambrose and the HBO miniseries. He went to France w/Spielberg and T.Hanks, appeared at the awards shows, etc., but it's only been after his death by shotgun suicide on 5/22/2017, that I've "honored" him by the OCCASIONAL (five total!) mention to his legacy.

@telleroftheone thank you for the kind words, I truly appreciate it. Especially, in lieu of that troll who couldn't spare 10 seconds for a Google search, and insinuated that I made this up. I rarely open up about my grandfather, because I don't want to seem like a clout-chaser --- but I am proud of him, he's 25% of my DNA and I like to think that I'm tough as nails, in spite of being a Gen Y female. People interested deeply in the Easy Co. story, tend to appreciate the periphery of what exists beyond Stephen Ambrose. These men were going thru PTSD at a time when it didn't exist as a clinical phenomenon, and they would have been raising families and trying to move on. I'm just glad that enough men from E. Co. were able to consult the historian at the time of his biographical research. But, for those who didn't, still had a unique story to tell. And it was captured by later documentations, that many ppl don't realize are extant and available. In my college years, I was mailed a hefty interview between my grandfather and a MN historian. It was not only touching, but wildly interesting. Average ppl don't live as colorfully and dangerously today. Thank you again for your kindness. ❤️

I mean it’s funny but they’re actors at the end of the day, this is as good as they can realistically do it without taking excessively long for potentially incrementally better performances. Doing a 3 month camp or something would be pointless at the end of the day because they’re not actually going out and doing the work for real, they’re simply putting on a performance.

    • @Mudge07

Remember your training maybe, about “shock of capture”, it has short-term, high impact. The cast were doing this as one episode in a training environment not a full POW movie, so eight days would’ve made an impression and reoriented them towards loyalty to Winters and against Sobel. Damian and David have very different personalities to their BoB characters and that’s where their acting skills soared along with their fellow actors in grateful portrayal of a lived experience of Airborne troops.

Schwimmer was absolutely fantastic as Sobel. I was Army myself and met too many people just like him. He friggin nailed it.

Everything about this show was so great. Really rare imo for a series to have so many elements work perfectly together. I still rewatch Band of Brothers every year.
David Schwimmer did a fantastic job and I still think its his best role. I initially doubted almost every major choice for almost all of the roles.
I went in thinking "most of these guys dont look like military guys, they dont look like action heroes." Yet that was precisely one of the reasons they were cast and it paid off so well.
