Good video, but i really disagree with most of your points. 1. Physical copies wouldn't really drop their prices, people buy those games to collect, not to really play it, there's a lot of diffent ways (although not legitimate) to play without buying the physical copy, hacking old consoles, getting fake copies or just emulating via pc or smartphone. Yes, there's people who only want to play the legitimate way, and that's why they buy physical copies, but let's be real, these are minority of minority. And even if realising these games on switch online really made physical copies drop the price, why would nintendo bother, they don't get a penny for those games selling in used market anyways. 2. Although i think having these games available in switch online would affect the sales of the latest games, i don't think it would be that much of an impact. The latests games are bad? Yes (specially scarlet violet), but these still sell reaaally well, scarlet/violet and sword/shield are both in the best selling games list of the switch, having other "free" options of pokemon games to play on the switch would maybe affect this a little, but not enough to make nintendo lose on having more player base, more people engaged with the franchise and, consequently, more people buying merchandise (which is where the real money maker is at). So why nintendo don't realese the old games on switch online? I really don't know, for me this seems like a lose-lose situation, even they'd realease it separate, like virtual console, it would still sell a lot, doesn't make sense on why they don't do it. The best excuse i can come up with is they're holding it to make it exclusive to switch 2, but even that doesn't make a lot of sense, since switch have a larger established player base, and the best interests for nintendo would be more people playing the games, for this would mean more people buying merchandising. So, i really don't have an answer.

Two (and in fact the only one that matters) - why add them to NSO which already has tens of millions of active paying subscribers when you can put them on the eShop and sell each of them individually for $10+? It's just base economics, mate. Anyone who complains about it would do EXACTLY the same if it were their money on the line. So why don't they do it? That difference in mindset is why they are a multibillion dollar company. BTW, gen 9 is failing? C'mon, son! If that's failing, very little is succeeding
Then they should do it? The idea holds no water if they don't actually sell them. Basic economics is that any minute boost from it being on NSO is still greater than simply getting 0 things out of not making them available at all.
@@lpfan4491 It holds water, my friend, because as I said, they don't plan for today or tomorrow only. They plan quite far ahead. Shiny hunting being easier is good. Because it doesn't take days to find them, I've actually shiny hunted most pokemon in SV. If it were still ridiculous odds, I wouldn't even bother. I've replayed all of them many times. Most of the time with the older games is grinding. The new games are not that bad, they just need some polish.

What are you talking about? Nintendo has nothing to do with second hand market and old games will not steal new games market or attention, those games are cool and all but way to simpler. I want those games on Switch? Yes, but none of what was say on the video is a reason for those game not being available yet.
*Why Nintendo hasn't put any mainline Pokémon game in Nintendo Switch Online:* The main reason is because Pokémon & Nintendo released the Virtual Console games of Gen 1 & 2 on the 3DS for the 20th anniversairy in 2016. I've predicted this for many years now but they'll likely do this for Gen 1, 2 & 3 for the 30th anniversairy in 2026. This will by then be on the new Nintendo console. Another reason is that pokémon from Gen 3-7 can still be sent over to 8-9 and Home. It's only when they would close down Pokémon Bank that adding Gen 3-7 to Nintendo Switch Online makes sense for them but even then they'll likely use the older generations first. The third reason is because they are focussing on remakes (new games) so you can just get the new games instead of the old. Nintendo & Pokémon want you to get everything as soon as it comes out or you'll miss it. It's creating your FOFA. The fourth reason is that they have some technical challenges but Pokémon Box, PokéTransporter & Bank are similar to Home so this shouldn't be a very hard challenge for them.
because the switch is in its last year now, if they will they are saving it for the next switch, but they wont let you access to gen 4-5 because they want you to buy bdsp and they are probably planning gen 5 remakes and a johto game for the next switch.
When people say that releasing the older games on NSO would cause the sales to cannibalize, I think it's honestly a bit of an overgeneration. Not just this video in particular, but everyone whom I see discuss this act like if the gen 3 games got re-released then the sales of the newer games would come to a crashing halt. But ask yourself. Are you saying that from a perspective of an adult fan who grew up with those older games and yearn to replay them again because of nostalgia, or are you saying that from the perspective of a casual Pokemon fan who enjoys the series regardless? And I can definitely see the argument of sales potentially being cannibalized, but I don't know if that argument really works anymore. Red Rescue Team is getting released on NSO in a few days. But they already have a remake out in the form of Mystery Dungeon DX. So this is where the sales cannibalization argument starts to fall apart. Because with Red Rescue Team being released it will discourage people from buying the full priced remake, which is still being sold. So the old game is now competing with the new game. And yes, I know it's a spin-off game, but that's still a potential $60 sale that may not happen now because of Red Rescue Team's mere presence on NSO. And the truth of the matter is that Pokemon will still sell tens of millions of copies regardless. There are plenty of casual adult fans who will buy the new games, and most kids I know would much rather opt to play the slick new 3D games instead of the old 2D games. But that's all just my take.
Nice video! Although in my opinion, players are always going to want the next Pokémon game. I don’t necessarily see long-time fans purely sticking to the old ones if they were to come to NSO.
Great video, well versed. I do think your point about the physical copies dropping would not be the case. The copies become rarer and rarer and people love to play them on original hardware, it's not the accesibility that drives the prices up, it's the collectors hogging them for nostalgia feelings. We are the last physical generation. 90's kids, so to speak.
Ah yes, I would agree! I guess it would not change the demand of collector's. However casual players, it would. I would agree with you though as the number of collectors vs casual players playing these games is a lot more for collectors
Hard stop, dude ✋️. Scarlet and Violet are the second best-selling generation after the first. You have an open world, co-op play, and raids where you team up with friends. I am not saying what's better. The Old are great but let's not say no one likes the new games that's a lie
Very fair point! I should have mentioned that sales were still extremely positive for S/V! I just don't think they lived up to the hype that we were hoping for
7:15 c'mon, any potato pc can run any handheld nintendo emulator up to 3DS, Switch takes a middle-of-the-road machine to do it well 8:24 uh, if emulation isn't accepted in speedruns, why would NSO be, since it's also emulated? if emulation is accepted, then an NSO release wouldn't make a difference.
Great points! I understand that from a resources standpoint, any computer can emulate these games. However, I don't think every casual gamer knows how to emulate. Also, I think that because NSO is a Nintendo created form of emulation, that is what would make it acceptable in the speed-running community
@@bratpack20 maybe, but community emulators have a track record of being more accurate than official ones, and since the Switch is hacked to hell, it would be just as easy to cheat. With PC emulators at least there are ways to control for cheating that wouldn’t be available for the Switch. Don’t get me wrong, I too think it would be great to have these classics be readily accessible to the mainstream, I just disagree with those points specifically.
As someone who had all of the games that gave them all (except switch) to my nephew for Christmas, i really wish we could have it on the system i don't think the cost of the old games matters to Nintendo, but pulling focus from modern games that are out isn't an issue. The issue is they want them in the current games as of release date of new games. They might do it as a promotion partially into the release of a future game and have some special event with it. I doubt it but it is possible.
We might not get the mainline Pokémon games on NSO due to how trading works. You did make some good points though, as they could be why the Pokémon games on Switch don't have cloud saves.
Nice video! Right now GF is just sitting on a gold mine. Emulation is the only reasonable way to play these games and it's being actively shut down by Nintendo. By releasing the ability to experience golden age Pokémon legally, GameFreak will be in a new era; listening to the flipping devoted fans!!
They literally hate every single group you mentioned because every single one of them is a fringe vocal minority online. Also literally everyone would hack shiny rayquaza.
As someone who in his 30s and been with the series since the beginning, Gens 1-3 in my honest opinion are straight up UNPLAYABLE. Gen 1 has ALOT of broken glitches(yes more than S/V) and mechanics that straight up break it. You mention the competitive crowd will like the older games more but as competitor myself, I cannot disagree more. Hyperbeam, Agility, Freeze, Wrap, Special stat and Phychic type already destroys that dream. Gen 2, the objective worst single player experiece not counting post game, has an trashy level curve that makes grinding abbysmal and have the new Pokemon are locked behind beating the game, just terrible to look back to. Gen 3 isn’t as nearly as terrible as the first two but it still lacks the Physical/Special split which makes it tough for me to replay. I never really saw the appeal of Shiny Pokemon cause there’s noting truly special about them(no evs, ivs, higher level, egg moves ect.). Also please stop calling games that sold over 25 mill as “failing” cause it comes off as unintellegent.
Great point! Failing was in fact the wrong word to use. I suppose I meant that Scarlet and Violet fail to retain my focus and interest in continuing to play them. Previous games in the past have had me playing them all the way up til the next released game. All Pokemon games will do well in terms of sales in my opinion. That's the state of pokemon, any game released, whether good or bad will sell well. This is why the Pokemon Company can continue to get lazier
@@bratpack20 Yet the lack of Legends ZA news and concrete date along with hints of a holiday 2025 releases and mass hiring at GF shows they actually are changing for the better.
Man your kinda slow aren't you? Elden ring sold 25 million and that franchise is only 13 years old. Pokemon has an established international 30 year fan base and the just barely got to 25mil. That is bad by comparison. Also your inability to understand the meta in the older pokemon games shows you need to learn the mechanics, it's a skill issue. You suck and you blamed the tool, not the carpenter.
Yeah even playing something like BDSP is soooo much better than the new gen. The new gen is just awful. Cool pokemon, but disgusting graphics, terrible bugs, ruined shinys, and terrible post game content fixed with paid dlc that also is mid. I’m just sick of their shit
I am fully convinced that the nintendo company does not want us to ever play the older pokemon games again. They are afraid of what it will do for the "future" of pokemon, as if it even has one after scarlet/violet.
Pokemon will always have a "future", it's so large it literally cannot be stopped by even a technical disaster (SV got pretty close but it's no Sonic 06). It's at a point where even if they did get such a disaster, the brand name would be far too valuable to drop. However, what they're definitely afraid of is the word of mouth from making the old games and gens accessible again, which would often be used to discourage engaging with the more recent titles; especially remakes, which stand as-is as a profitable alleyway for them to make a quick extra buck but would stand no chance if the much more complete originals were made available on the consoles that everyone has. This would not only affect remakes, but new gens and all associated content as well given that they could then be seen as "inferior" by the mass populace and not just vocal minorities on the internet; it would lead to a drop in content interest for *everything* ranging from lower sales on said new games, to less watch rates on new anime seasons, less of an interest in new card packs in favor of reruns, and even less sales of merchandise of the new creatures. It's arguably to a point where it would require their entire *business model* to change, to accomodate for the strong reinterest in the past that they can control but will struggle to do so and focus on if too many old gens are made available quickly.
@@extremmefan7305 Did they really not realize that the "word of mouth" has existed for years? Everyone knows that Platinum has things over BDSP and everyone knows that literally anything from GBA onwards is more technically competent than the Switch games(Minus Let's go, those are weirdly polished)
@@lpfan4491 Oh they definitely know the "word of mouth" about quality, they just don't want to be able to enforce said word of mouth by making those games available easily again. If your only options are to either buy GF's cheap remakes for the base Switch game price, or to spend over a thousand bucks for a legit copy of the better games online, that's convenient for their business model; even if it means a lack of goodwill which ultimately leads to some people preferring to pirate these games.

I just don't think they lived up to the hype that we were hoping for
In the pokemon in the olde games have special mark.
It’s a good thing we have emulators
7:15 c'mon, any potato pc can run any handheld nintendo emulator up to 3DS, Switch takes a middle-of-the-road machine to do it well
8:24 uh, if emulation isn't accepted in speedruns, why would NSO be, since it's also emulated? if emulation is accepted, then an NSO release wouldn't make a difference.
I just think its something related to pokemon home
GameCube aren't that expensive and the module only games too.
I’m glad emulation is so easy now a days
I hope your channel blows tf up. You got this!
For your shiny hunt argument, Game Freak could just fix it that Home wouldnt allow hack shiny. Also I enjoy the better odds for shinies to appear.
I wish they would fix it! Or maybe even make an even rarer 3rd color form or something that cannot have it's odds increased
You don't need a nice computer to use emulators. Most phones can run an emulator
It's like they are politely asking me to pirate and emulate these games.
Agreed!
yeah i dont believe they will add at this point, thats why i modded my 3ds with all of pokemons games.
Nice video! Right now GF is just sitting on a gold mine. Emulation is the only reasonable way to play these games and it's being actively shut down by Nintendo. By releasing the ability to experience golden age Pokémon legally, GameFreak will be in a new era; listening to the flipping devoted fans!!
*ex fans
Legends arceus is that game
They literally hate every single group you mentioned because every single one of them is a fringe vocal minority online. Also literally everyone would hack shiny rayquaza.
Yeah but can you hack that rayquaza in with out the Nintendo ninjas knowing
@@pokedex252 As easy as breathing .
Hopefully on NSO they would create some sort of way to prevent hacking but who knows
@@DDKoD I'm super pumped for Legends ZA! I hope they also include online battles this time around!
Just get a Everdrive and stop your crying. Nintendo doesn't care about us and never will
The pokemon GB and GBA would be better if it was in the e Shop and game card. The pokemon company wants money.
Ofc it has a future after a game has sold over 25 million in the Switches twilight years. This isn’t meatriding, just common sense
