i was once a switzerland player before this update and spammed forts everywhere i also made artillery and got aa and had air superiority with ONE plane (a fighter) and also switzerland was untouched for the ENTIRE TIME
I feel like a good counter/balance for this is to make different levels of fortification, like, Lightly Fortified, Fortified, and Heavily Fortified. Heavily Fortified would have the same level of defense buff as forts now, I'd believe this is a good idea cuz you can still use forts but it would simply be much less effective, and also to increase upkeep.

Not really, if you have 400 tanks max spending, maneuver warfare branch, basic chief of general and general along with basic panzer leader you can easily take any city. Without forts and resistance tech I believe that set up can take London
They should make forts like roads, now now i know some people might do funny shit with it, but it would be better since irl its more practical on making defense lines instead of the defense being in a single city. And make it so you can upgrade the defense of the defense line. Why lines? So i can make back up lines incase of a breakthrough over the border defense lines
People mostly leave the game because A) didn’t get the country they wanted B) certain country that they hoped to be an AI is a player C) someone is hogging all the trades
I built forts in all of my cities as yugoslavia in 2089, once I took over europe with a 300+ naval unit navy. And the forts saved me from british, japanese, russian and arabic invasions. It was the whole server vs me, forts were already powerful
Wait, I realized, if you form Yugoslavia and conquer like huge amounts of land with big population and rough terrain the modifier of Yugoslavia increases Resistance so it would BE WAY BROKEN
in my opinion theres another way to counter forts. ballistic missiles. Not nuclear missiles that require oodles and boodles of research, but kinda like the V1 rocket or something of that variety. This would have the effect of heavily damaging troops, and the city that they inhabit leaving the defender with the choice to stand and die, or run and lose the city
I think the fix to the fort thing is just like triple the price or something to not make it viable early on and not beating any offensive superpower a complete walk in the park.
America can easily spam forts now, i tested in a private server and it only costs like 33m to upkeep which is nothing for america. Stupidly broken + specialization buff is annoying asf
It should increase like the Spendings, depending on your tax income, the more expensive the upkeep is. Sure it doesn't make any logical sense but yk, it will somewhat balance it like invading the amazons in Brazil.
I kind of realised this after sending 200k maxed out tanks (WITH MAXED MANEUVER WARFARE) into Japan and them getting completely wiped, granted, i split them up a lot which made it easier but still, i had 3.2k divisions getting deleted one by one, thankfully that whole war was just a joke before i left so i didn't really care.)
Not too sure how that lost, did you have panzer leader, chief of staff, general, ideology buffs, military spending, tech and an offensive doctrine? Also did Japan have support like ships artillery and planes
when are they going to fix attrition, in no world does a max trained army die from just marching or capturing an undefended city, even in deserts and tundras. It makes sense for mountains and jungles but otherwise it’s just annoying
Just deal with it, attrition takes in count for supply too so if your marching 1,000,000 soldiers into some Siberian village, of course loads of people would die. You can always use Transport Planes.
For someone who always choose static lines doctrine and used to building forts everywhere and prefers to stay neutral always. I see this as a nice upside to my way of becoming like Rogal Dorn.
As a mass attack player the only thing I want is that they remove the training time nerf like what the hell man it takes a decade to make my troops decent
One year to make a fort is kinda crazy.. I suggest that the speed be based off the population of the city, Example a city with 1k population could take a week or two to build while a city with a million could take months
Idk where do drop this but using generals is not only kinda like gambling but when you strike big you REALLY strike BIG. I had a naval officer who had specialization in battleships meaning he gave them a 25% attack buff. When I leveled him up to level 2 I was able to get the same speicalization making it 50%!!! THATS RIGHT 50%! I got 4 elite battleships and on one could kill them thanks to that buff. Not to mention I went down the doctrian that gave the even MORE buffs. Same then goes for my arty, my arty gen gave my arty 34% of a buff! Combined with static defense giving some extra bonuses I can easly send any army on my border to the shadow realm in a INSTANT, truely some crazy stuff!
as a guy who likes defending (i like playing swiss, mexico, poland and mongolia) i love this update, making forts as swiss was a PAIN. you had to select 3 cities at a time out of the cities that are 2 meters apart
Fort cost should scale with the size of the country. For example, forts on all cities for like a kyrgyzstan player would cost 30000 but the same amount of cities for a usa player would be like 500 million. I like the idea of keeping forts on all cities but if you made it expensive it would be hard for small countries to defend against giants
Skip to second to last paragraph if you don't want to hear me rambling. I'm not kidding when I say this. I was North American Union and I took over Africa, Central America, and North America, and I had the "Reinvigorate American Imperialism" buff ready (Haven't used it yet, I had all the prerequires though, I was just saving it to when I felt like I needed it) and I was number one globally. I also was allied with the Qing Dynasty which was the 2nd highest country in the server and we decided to team up against the third country that had a player (Franco-British Empire). Now keep in mind I had my tanks and infantry maxed out as well as the best policies and had most of my political research branch done. The Franco Empire was mostly an economic power and didn't do any real war except for helping me and the Qing Dynasty kill Russia (yes, we decided to betray him). The Qing Dynasty was also on par with me but didn't have the air and naval power I did. I'll keep a 2 hour war somewhat short. I tried to attack his African cities but that hombre put forts on ALL OF HIS CITIES IN THE WORLD and put arty and AA on them so I literally could not get any cities. I only managed to capture like 4 cities that didn't have any AA/arty and I bombed the fort into oblivion so the cities didn't have the fort anymore, and even that killed a ton of my troops. And he also kept killing my aircraft since my airpower would bomb his cities but refill in Africa. It was basically a stalemate for an hour (Qing Dynasty was also having the same problem but just in the far east) I nuked his country 12 times but that did nothing so eventually I went straight for his capital. The Franco Empire's capital was near a sea so I decided to send in 21,000 tanks there (his capital was like the only city not fortified) and I was able to find a route to flank into his capital without it being guarded by AA or arty. I do that and I hold his capital for a bit but that imbecile had forts all around his city and just started placing arty on those cities and it killed all of my tanks real quick and then took his city back. Also he became number one doing F*cking nothing whilst me and the Qing killed our economies almost into debt because we couldn't push into his country because all of his cities (yes, every single one at this point) had a fort on them. Moral of the story? Unlimited fort cap f*cks up waging wars on the offensive side if they spam them (I think a cap of like 20 - 40 forts is fair). Invading a country that is larger becomes essentially impossible if they spam forts on all of their cities and pairs it with arty and AA and the increased City Resistance buffs. The reason why I decided 20-40 forts max is because it makes it so that small countries can stand a better chance if they utilize forts but also doesn't make larger countries impossible to conquer. How do I think we can solve this, put a cap back on forts but around 20-40 forts max for all of your cities, make the forts more expensive, make forts take longer to build. I don't mind if everything but the forts stay the same, just change the stupid fort stuff and nerf the forts. Thanks for hearing me ramble, have a good day.
they should make specialization for specific biomes be 2x attack for that biome instead of defense for that biome, that way it makes specialization kinda an attacking doctrine.
i am a NOOB in rise of nations and was playing cameroon and I fortified my capital and had like 160k troops stacked on it 400 tanks and that was it and this nigeria player attacked with 200k troops and they instantly died (my cap was the only city I had last, also they were all untrained lol)

I've captured north Afghanistan (Northern Alliance territory, and then some) against a good player as Tajikistan at the start of the game without industry. Their defensives were "impenetrable" to others. Again, micromanagement.

In my opinion also resistance is ruining the matches. In late games when everybody has maxxed the resistance techs wars are very static and totally depend on exhaustion and stability not on conquering.
they should buff massed attack by giving mp ALOT more and decrease the starting expirience a bit more and Idk abt 1mil a fort maintaince more like 1.5x the city population

I used to main Specialization until I saw the absolute beautiful image of Static Lines, the damage against tanks was so good for me as I hate using tanks early game.
The defending player should have the advantage regardless. Otherwise, there is no point in playing a game where you are easily steamrolled by braindead players who only know how to spam. This update encourages careful planning when attacking, as it should be the case from the start.
@@Merejiah Not if you have a balanced army. This guy in the video is not taking into account a superior navy or airforce. If you invest in a good airforce early game it makes forts useless. It's still really easy to get around them you just have to think a little more instead of just spamming inf or tanks.
Amandus if you are reading this just know that you can stack on top of specialization all of the infantry tech, making the manoeuvre warfare useless since anti tank exists

Or there could be a different level of forts with each stats. The higher the level the fort is the higher the cost and time to build will be.
In my opinion also resistance is ruining the matches.
In late games when everybody has maxxed the resistance techs wars are very static and totally depend on exhaustion and stability not on conquering.
they should buff massed attack by giving mp ALOT more and decrease the starting expirience a bit more and Idk abt 1mil a fort maintaince more like 1.5x the city population
massed is already balanced fairly well

forts are quite literally unkillable and are incredibly cheap for what they offer and also tank spam wasnt as bad compared to this because there was atleast fighting but this meta is just staring at eachother with artillery in forts until the guy messes up
give it a tiered system instead of going hyper expensive tier one is the current expenses but doesnt do much like 10 percent buff etc etc
i wouldnt add such a long building time for forts. maybe. diffrent tiers. like in hoi4. make it that there are 5 tiers of forts where the last one is als strong als the standard rn.

To be honest, going spec on an event is still not a good idea.
I used to main Specialization until I saw the absolute beautiful image of Static Lines, the damage against tanks was so good for me as I hate using tanks early game.
So is specialisation the best or Manoeuvre warfare or still static lines

The defending player should have the advantage regardless. Otherwise, there is no point in playing a game where you are easily steamrolled by braindead players who only know how to spam. This update encourages careful planning when attacking, as it should be the case from the start.
The problem is that this was too extreme. Attacking a player who uses these mechanics is now nearly impossible in late or sometimes mid game.
@@Merejiah Not if you have a balanced army. This guy in the video is not taking into account a superior navy or airforce. If you invest in a good airforce early game it makes forts useless. It's still really easy to get around them you just have to think a little more instead of just spamming inf or tanks.

Yeah but early game tanks are still meta like I showed in the video of 800 steel division tanks beating entrenched researched infantry. You have way more money than you have manpower
