As a lifetime VW and 4 time GTI owner (just bought a ‘23 40th anniversary edition) I can say that my initial thoughts are I really like the design. I’m not all in on electric vehicles as of yet. I do understand that is where things are going in the automotive industry and I think once they have better range and can be charged as fast as a gas powered car I would be more for it. But what I see here I do think looks great and if the GTI staying around means going electric I’m happy with what I see.
Great timing given the announcement of the death of the manual transmission after 2024 in these hot hatches. The DSG is a great transmission, but a spicy EV hatch is the future. Love my manual MK7.5 GTI. Looking forward to an EV version. Please bring stateside VW!

I loved the video of this electric GTI. This spicy little car is really interesting. A great car journalist who knows how to conduct an interesting interview. Very good!! Price speculation... close to 38k-40k.
Msn had an article where Schafer mentioned 30k+ euros to start target, production is slated for late 2026 and first deliveries in early 2027. Another channel autofuegel says sources have it around 220-240 miles of wltp range due to more power, the big wheels&aero drag. I'm with you on price. When it comes out it'll be 50% above the reg id.2. Gti model's are always expensive and always low volume. First year production will be low, lots of demand and dealers ripping people off for them ie standard operating car sales procedures. 😑
Commenting - PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE BRING THIS TO THE USA! It's perhaps the coolest car I've ever seen. I love it. I love it. I love it. I will buy 2 if that's what it takes. Only feedback on the design is the rear diffuser - it's a bit chunky looking. Otherwise, just make sure to bring back actual knobs, buttons, etc. for the climate/info-tainment, and you're golden! Did I mention I will buy this car the second it lands on US shores?
Its a concept. The real production vehicle will look significantly different, as in, it will be uglier as they have to meet various safety standards, road rules/policies in various countries and thus would have to change the design. If the car looks mostly the same, it would sell like hot cakes.
This is an amazing car that will take the company to the next level. I never liked the GTI because it was too noisy and fossil, it was the representation of too much money and less brain, but now with this GTI EV I can certainly see this in the future and fun to drive. The only problem is the waiting time, 2026 is too far away imo. This should be in production next year, try to speed it up but no late than 2025 please.
They definitely need to bring this to the US. I hate SUVs/Crossovers. I love that the ID.7 is coming. Go ahead and bring the GTI to the US too. Let's not leave all of your Golf/GTI fans in the dark.
Hey VW, please bring the Electric GTI to North America. I own a Mark 7 Autobahn Package and might have already purchased a mark 8 if not for the infotainment issues. I have driven the iD4. I felt it was too big and not enough fun with the same aforementioned infotainment issues. Small, Fast, Practical, I'm in! Just make sure dealers don't mark it up in the same way they are doing with the Golf R. If customers can get them at sticker this car would be a HUGE hit!
While the US is mostly SUV obsessed, those parking on city streets prefer a smaller vehicle like this and the id2. I moved into a city and traded my 2015 Jetta for a mk7.5 GTI, it's the nicest car I've ever owned. I'd love to see this continued in the US!

Why? It's a moderately powered heavy FWD EV, in what way does that say driving excitement to you? It will be average at best, if that excites you.
Having owned a GTi, manual transmission, I love this design! Well, except the steering wheel. I'm with you, it should be as closer to a circle as possible.
I would definitely order one of these if it’s around 40k and they bring back some physical buttons. Very cool
Looks amazing! 🔥And a great video! Especially the interview with the designer!
Love it. Bring it to market with all of these design details
Andreas and his team did a damn good job.
about bloody time too - they should rebrand the ID3 as the Golf and bring a GTi version out this year
PLEASE bring this to the US market! I would absolutely purchase this car
My kind of car. More than just a simple ID4. I want one.
IT HAS TO COME TO THE US. NO DOUBT THIS IS A WONDERFUL VERSION OF THE GTI. I CAN’T WAIT!!!
This will not come to the USA until battery constraints are lifted. They would absolutely sell them in the Us if they had production capacity for them. I hope I’m wrong. Would love to see these going to the USA.
Best looking electric car that i've seen online.
Well, I'm excited -- which, I think, means it's the TRUE next generation of GTI! And it seems like every ID GTI will come much closer to the level of performance of the Golf R -- yet, more reason to be excited!!! And I agree -- 10 out of 10.
as a mk7.5 owner i think it looks cool, but i wish it was a little bit lower and i hope they can still make it fun to throw around and not too heavy, but i think this is a good start
This could be a worthy competitor for the Model 2 and any comparables in the US market. VWs precise drive feel in the value priced segment.
Looks awesome. I could see it in my garage
Great timing given the announcement of the death of the manual transmission after 2024 in these hot hatches. The DSG is a great transmission, but a spicy EV hatch is the future. Love my manual MK7.5 GTI. Looking forward to an EV version. Please bring stateside VW!
Love the way VW is heading currently
First Electric Car I’ve seen that would get me to swap over. I have a Mk7 currently. Assuming the production version looks like this, and drives like a GTI, I am in. PLEASE bring this to US market!!
Honestly, I would add this as my MK7 GTIs sibling. This is beautiful and I already know performance is going to be wicked.
I'm not really feeling it. I feel like they've ruined it. But I will wait for the release, maybe it'll be better in person.
I NEED THIS IN THE US. We need more hatchbacks and wagons.
If it drives like it looks, it'll be a lot of fun. Don't screw it up VW.
It won't, it's a moderately powered heavy FWD EV, in what way does that say driving excitement?
Another vote: please bring this to North America! 🇩🇪🇨🇦🇲🇽🇺🇸
I don't care if it's not coming, as long as they bring the ID.4 GTX here😂
I, as an american, WANT IT! Tearing up the minnesota winter would be so much fun!!!
Love it!
I wish I could watch this in 4x, Kyle can certainly talk a lot without saying anything
Must say one of the best designes of a car that Ive seen in the last 5 years. Maybe the rear lights can be improved.
Its a concept. The real production vehicle will look significantly different, as in, it will be uglier as they have to meet various safety standards, road rules/policies in various countries and thus would have to change the design. If the car looks mostly the same, it would sell like hot cakes.
I miss my Golf, what a wonderful car. Excited about this release.
I'm in for this!
I like that steering wheel actually, seems like it would be sporty and fun to drive
Man this is a very exciting car. Yes, please bring it to the USA. VW needs it here. I miss my 1991 16V GTI.
Please make this as well as an R model with AWD! Then bring to USA!
Agreed. Rwd/AWD>fwd
It's an absolute beauty. Hope it makes it to production as it sits.
I"ve had several GTI's. My only complaint about noise was with the low-profile tires. A lot of road noise.
If customers can get them at sticker this car would be a HUGE hit!
the play and stop buttons on the pedals are a nice creative touch!
While the US is mostly SUV obsessed, those parking on city streets prefer a smaller vehicle like this and the id2. I moved into a city and traded my 2015 Jetta for a mk7.5 GTI, it's the nicest car I've ever owned. I'd love to see this continued in the US!
That looks bad ass in silver. If VW doesn't bring this to America, they are missing a HUGE opportunity. Can't wait to see what it's like on the street.
