Excellent video, Midn Camacho! It gave me a good taste of what has changed (and not!) since I was there. I look forward to future postings. (Jack Herlocker, 5th Co, Class of 1980)

Is the military like a 4 yr bootcamp?

John Reed It’s like regular college but they condition you in your 4 years there, like boot camp but less intensive

Any advice for my daughter, a current soph. in HS. - tops in her class? Any regrets on your end? Thanks. Go Navy, Beat Army.

My advice is to stay involved and stay motivated. The academy doesn't make the application process easy; rightfully so. If the academy is truly something she wants, she must be willing to go through the entire process and stay on top of everything to ensure her application is successfully completed.(Emphasis on successfully) If she is top of her class, then it sounds like she is on the right track. However, the academy isn't just looking for someone who is intelligent; just like they aren't looking for someone who is only physically fit. The best thing you can do to make yourself stand out from every other candidate is to be very well rounded. (President of a club, captain of a team, and a high GPA) I would also recommend looking into the summer programs at the academy. The programs, NASS and STEM, allow her to engulf in a small taste of what academy life is like so that she can determine if it's what she really wants to do. Once she has started her application for the academy, she will be assigned a blue and gold officer who can walk you through these things and can make suggestions and recommendations. Be persistent and definitely start the application sooner rather than later! If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to reach out! Wishing her the best of luck! GO NAVY, BEAT ARMY!
