You make it sound like you feel sorry for John, he was the worst medieval King by far, in a bunch of weak kings. Seriously I loved the book. The Anarchy was a lousy time for the country, but is often ignored in conversations about civil wars and rebellions in this country. Dan Jones seems to have an interest in rebellions, as do I. Politicians seem to know next to nothing about our rebellious past, hence that fuss over a recent riot. This was a very fair and balanced review, John, I'm always glad to hear your opinions on history, philosophy, and all the other good stuff.

Thanks so much, Debs! Glad I finally got to read something by him. He lived up to all the hype.

I had a feeling that Jones stopped with Richard II because a runaway bestselling, exuberantly blurbed volume dedicated to the Wars of the Roses was either on the shelves or in the works. Google has confirmed that suspicion. 😉
Sounds like a fun read. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Looking forward to hearing about Thomas Becket. Now I'm off to drive some mechanical agricultural monstrosity for several hours. 🙄

Yeah, it looks like he picks up with Henry IV in "War of the Roses". But there's something that makes me tic a little when something calls itself a history of the Plantagenets but doesn't cover all of them. Be careful on that John Deere.

@NicholasOfAutrecourt Yikes! We're Case IH types here. Well, I couldn't care less actually, but I can hear some deceased forebears spinning. Feuds have begun over less. 😉

Richards? Those are the least of your problem. Have fun with the Edwards and Henrys! 😄

Which one is that? "Hollow Crown" (at least the U.S. version) starts with the death of Henry V, but goes up through almost the end of Henry VIII.

@@NicholasOfAutrecourt this book is Henry V, the astonishing triumph of of England’s warrior king. The release date is October 1, 2024. I saw someone talking about it. I would like to read hollow crown too. After watching the movie Henry V I want to read more about him. He seemed like bad a**. I read about the wound to his face. I can’t imagine the pain he endured. Luckily he had a doctor who really took the time to save him.

@@user-iz6cc6lz3j-Vickie Oh, I should have known from the way you originally phrased your comment that it was an upcoming release. I have a bad habit with no keeping up with new books, but I need to start. I'd snatch that up in a heartbeat if I ever saw it. Thanks for the heads up, Vicki!

I enjoyed The Plantagents and his follow up The Hollow Crown (different name in the US i think). He's a decent general overview historian, and it's such an interesting era full of great characters it's hard to go far wrong. His Peasants Revolt book was definitely far more in-depth, although I found it less interesting.

I guess there's no wonder why everyone flocks to him. It moves at a clip and is so novelistic and readable. But I just wanted it to be twice as long, you know? Not sure if I mentioned it in the video, but it inspired me to read a standalone biography of Beckett, which was also amazing. Thanks so much for shopping by, Aaron.
