The main thing I'm hearing that is changing, is that with the move to abandon fossil fuels and the electrification of everything, we would be digging a lot more of these holes for minerals. Also a guy who worked in the mining industry mentioned that this industry moves very very slow and it's very rigid in how things are done, the methods are established and don't budge. It takes around 10 years to establish a mine, and 20 years for it to become profitable. So probably nothing has really changed.
"If it can't be grown, it has to be mined" - this is not true: Water is not mined or grown. Oil is drilled for. Ammonia is extracted from the air. Find more examples and add them here 😄
Mining and drilling often comes hand in hand, geologically speaking. There are actually some insitu leaching mining methods when the just basically drill a hole to the ore deposit. Also, this quote refers to harvesting natural resources for material and/or energy. Chemical processes (like ammonia synthesis) is a whole different topic.
This mine has been poisoning the air and water for over a century now. One million people live right next to it (SLC and the suburbs built on toxic dirt, toxic water table). 😂
I think there are at least hundred different documentaries made or mentioned this mine and vehicles. And a man hover around those truck wheels still giving me anxiety. Those should be on rails and tracks, not compressed air that can explode like a bomb.
Lol that would be a ridiculous waste of material and set up a huge limit on what could ever be mined. 7 years to target an ore area would turn into 14 years. Come on.
I'm telling you right now. There nothing exciting about driving an articulated off road dump truck. It's boring, it's horrible on your spine, it's repetitive and a slow progress shift. Literally the exact opposite of anything that can be described as exciting. Everything else in the video cool though.
The largest and most destructive. It’s educational videos like these that are important for our future generations to understand the impact that these mining companies have on our environment and our communities. The implementation of policies that will address extreme impacts like these capitalistic companies exploiting our natural resources for their own profit must be created in order to ensure our survival. Climate change is REAL. It is time we take initiative in our efforts to empower the communities who are subjected to this threat.
Congratulations! You've fixed the problem, nobody else even considered this before! You've single-handedly saved them millions of dollars every week. Just go to the HQ to get your reward.
Never enough for us humans...
You shouldn't be so surprised... do you have copper in your day to day activities? Exactly so shut it karen.
Its gonna catch up to us sooner rather than later. 😢
We need more cow bell !!!
Your always welcome to go back to a cave with fire.
Where do you think the copper wires come from that are currently bringing electricity to you?
@@maphezdlin what a moronic response to a simple comment. Relax there chico 😂
You should include when this clip was originally released / aired. This could be from 2003 for all we know and things could have changed a lot since.

Here's what has also changed: gml.noaa.gov/ccgg/trends/ We're in trouble and going after lower quality ore is a symptom.
whats the plan for mine afterwards? will it be filled? will it become a large lake?
Lake, I suppose
Who will pay to reclaim this mine once the ore has run out?
Why fill in a perfectly good hole?

Oxygen?😂
The iron ore mines of western australia send about 800 million tonnes of ore overseas each year.
“Necessary for our way of life.” Unarguable. Until you question the chosen way of life that requires this.
amazing content
it's like if we filmed a body ulcer with epic music
Where on earth pardon the pun dose all the waste material go and the rain water must be huge looking at the surrounding forest.
BBC about digging deeper holes
That's where I want my bunker built, then just fill it in 😅
Where does all rain water or ground water go? Just trying to understand why its not full of water.
Thankful for these guys. It cant be healthy being down there for years.

Is it the hole the tories are digging for themselves?
Ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha! Such humor, totally relevant and appreciated
COOL !!!
Why take a road in a circle when you can make a giant elevator that will cut the time in half.... possibly a conveyor belt.
Doesn't show where all these rocks dumped into!!!

Alarmingly destructive
Will the hole ever be big enough for the BBC?
I seent it.
A man who wants to go outside feels like he is ina loophole
Climate change ( not mining)
Everything about the mine would appear stupid
Isn't the open pit mine in Australia the biggest mine???
Too many gases go out of that place😮

they are rigid trucks not articulated
I’d love to watch this but I literally cannot stand the music. Dear lord. Find something else for the background.
Wiwwww huge

Do you believe me if I tell you I can see different colors gases almost orange 😮
GENESIS 1 VERSE 28

Wow 👌 huge
Thanks. That's what you're mom said.
@harrygrimley4352 didn't know my mum liked to watch these beautifully engineered vehicles
Using trucks to vacate the rock at a long term mine this big? That's insane, they'd have to drive so far... Conveyor belts, come on.

Did that make you feel better about yourself for a few seconds?@@666Tomato666
