As an Indian i can vouch for this. This conversation is long overdue. I worked for many Indians since my career started in 2000, and sadly couldn't wait until I found a job at a "white owned" company. Many Indian employers don't believe they need to follow labour laws. I especially hate their attitudes toward African staff... Not just the employers but also fellow Indian staff who think they are so much better than the African workers. It's all that racist bullshit we grew up with and im so glad its fading with the younger generation of Indians.
I once had an amazing Indian employer. We used to fetch cars together in Newcastle your home town Pen because he was selling cars. That guy used to dine me out everytime we travel to fetch cars and we sat together, shared a halal meal and had a good chat. Not only that but he will also order a large meal so I can take home to share with my family. During Ramadan he will give me plenty of meat and I mean plenty to take home to my family. When we arrived late he will take his car and drop me home at my door step. I can't say more about other Indian employers but that guy was a good employer to me.
mmm..... OK well that was so kind of the guy 👌👍 , yah not every man is the same in all the races . I appreciate the relationship you had with that man Wow . but the fact is that the majority of Indians are not the smart employers
I am currently working for a company owned by Indians as a software engineer, damn I just got emotional. I am experiencing peak exploitation at the moment 😢. I'm just waiting for the contract to end.
I once worked at CellC with an indian lady in a call centre and she was my supervisor. The woman was a slave driver, had a superiority complex qnd actually knew ziltch of her work. She had a team of 6 people and we did the work and she took all the glory and would say she did it and we just put it all together. I ended up reporting her but i was then made the scapegoat. Before i left that company, one of the big bosses called me and told me that I won't last here because she's friends with the owner of the company.
this is true. They can't eat food that isn't halal 😂 That's normal though It basically means that the meat has to be slaughtered whilst taking the name of god. It's not that they're looking down at anyone's food. @@sibongileviolet887

This is so true, I was in grade 10 in 2006, I found a retail job working for an indian. While I was in school, I would get paid R100 a day for working on Saturday and Sunday. During the week after school I would get paid R50 a day. I was doing multiple jobs in this store (ordering stock, packing stock, pricing, cashier, helping the drivers offload).. When I matriculated in 2008, they employed me permanently. I was working from 8am to 6pm Monday-Friday and Saturday 8am to 2pm. I got paid R500 a week for this long hours. No increase from 2008-2011. When I decided to leave that job in 2011, they made me feel like they were doing me a favor. I couldnt afford to go to University, my mother had enough money just to see us through the month, nothing extra.... From 2011-2018 I was blessed to receive any job opportunities but mostly contract positions. In 2018 I got a job as an IT Technician and my life changed, I managed to win many awards in the company as the best technician and I grew from there.
Go 2 offers one time, one was with black dude n white women while another was with Indians. I was new in the work world n pushed by more money. The Indians in the team would backstab and report me to the Indian manager as well, it eventually ended in the worst possible way for me. I wish I knew these types of “stereotypes” earlier, I’d have made better choice cause it was the worst year of my life.
A year prio, also got 2 offers n one was with an 1nd1an boss n accepted it first cause the first one was still pending. When the second one came, I then went ahead with it and noticed hr of the initial one that I’d like to reverse my decision. Not sure if hr didn’t notify the 1nd1an boss that I won’t be joining them, he called me on the day I was supposed to report on and aggressively asked I didn’t come to work. Was really fresh from varsity so that didn’t even in my head, after all these experiences and comments on social media I noticed that this had to be true, and wonder how anyone would talk to you like that before your first day, I wouldn’t have made it there too🙆🏾♂️

i worked with an indian chap at a call center. the bank had a rule that we take 100 calls a day. this chap used to finish his 100 calls by lunch time while most of us had to stay in past working hours to do those 100 calls.. i made friends with him and he showed me how to handle clients issues with speed. he later left to start his own business and im sure he employs black people today and he is probably hard on his employees because what we learnt is that time is money and businesses need to produce more in less time to compete in any market. as a friend he was great, similar to what penual is saying, but as an employer, do we expect him to be our friend? its life, if we dont want to work for indian people, start your own businesses and employ indian ppl..
Even as Indians we are bullied by other Indians and have to defend ourselves. Even Blacks bully Indians but it doesn't mean we must be the same or do the same. This ugly cycle starts with having difficult conversations openly like this, the party in the wrong taking accountability, making amends, forgiveness but not forgiveness, and moving forward together as equals.
@Nicki_S963 wholesome comment, but the reality of kzn is especially Durban, indians have more economic power over any race in Durban now that's not a bad thing because obviously they worked their way up, people at the bottom blk ppl cool,so what is the big deal the deal is when you are in the bottom people tend to mistreat you and that's what thousands of people in Durban can attest to almost every person I encounter who have worked for an Indian person they always have a bad thing to say why is that??, you can't fault an entire group of ppl and write it off as "they just lazy" that makes you raysist rightfully so for obvious reasons
@@itsnevertoolatetodotherigh3271 I agree with you 💯% This is my problem with Indians too. They even do that to their own community. I think it stemmed from when the Britishers invaded India and misconstrued the religious texts about the Varna system which was a system that categorized community members into 4 parts of the human body where every single part is necessary. But the invaders mistranslated and misconstrued that text to use it to mistreat people. And I'll explain in more detail if you're interested. But I know this does not make it an excuse for their attitude and behaviour to those less off. But it is where it came from and they need to really get in touch with their roots in order to understand themselves before they try to even understand the people they live and work alongside. So this topic is going to go on for a while and as much I understand where it stems from but they are individuals of their own making and need to take accountability for themselves and their actions. It's wrong.

This kind of content is not just misleading but also harmful. Generalizing an entire population and portraying Indian bosses in a negative light fuels discrimination and reinforces harmful stereotypes. Instead of encouraging understanding and inclusivity, videos like this promote division and bias. We should be calling out unfair treatment in the workplace, but blaming an entire nationality is not the way to do it.
As someone who lived through the Inanda Riots, which is not talked about enough, a lot of fear & resentment was instilled within our generation. Gandhi's involvement with the British, which is also not talked about enough, somehow painted us all as colluding with the oppressors. I've had to deal being spat on and told to "go back to India" numerous times. Completely unprovoked. As though I had any choice in the matter - My forefathers were enslaved & forcefully sent throughout the world as cheap labour. We've suffered great evils, together. From my experience, there's a lot of unspoken resentment on both sides with gross misinformation & propaganda perpetuating that vile resentment along with racial stereotypes, furthering the divide. We need to come together, reconcile & heal. I'm a firm believer that us brown folk can unite and change the world. Heal the world. Dispel the false, evil narratives. Reveal the true history of the world. I believe in a United States of Africa. What Haile Selassie, Muammar Gaddafiwas & countless others were, and still, killed for. We must unite.
This unity you speak of is a Utopia/fantasy that will remain a pie in the sky as long as we still have so-called Indian areas, Coloured areas and the townships. The Group Areas Act was repealed in the 1990s but more than 30 years later, they still exist? We need more black people moving into these areas so they can become true reflections of the country's demographics. After independence, Samora Machel did his best to discourage brown-on-brown racism. I think he succeeded. When I traveled around Moz in 1996 for 1 month, I was struck by the unity between Indians and the indigenous people. Indians were not as racist as their counterparts in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia and SA. 100 years ago, the same boats carrying villagers from Gugurat,India made stops along the east coast before dropping them off in Durban. They came to Africa to find their fortunes and it would come at the expense of black people. Along the way those who settled in the transvaal and further north told themselves they are not on a humanitarian mission. The fact that they have not returned to India says 'mission accomplished' to me! 😅
Indians in India say South African Indians think are better than anyone and think they are white, heard this from a couple of friends I spoke to from Mumbai. They compare them with the light complexion Indians regarding Classism that exists there.

I agree working for Indian bosses is bad enough, a strong majority of them and mainly the older generations, not forgetting Indian co-workers who act like they are the owners(not all) can be a mix of emotions, but working for Muslims is a totally different type of hell, I've had the unfortunate experience of working for 3 different companies owned by Muslims and each experience was worse than the previous. They will prove exactly how terrible they can get. On the flip side having African co-workers was an eye opener on how lazy(not all) of them can be, work slowly like they are half dying and famous for saying "it's not their job" , or "I don't know" how are you going to learn and grow if you don't challenge yourself and be able to work all round in a company?? Not forgetting the ones that stay away because of over doing it with alcohol.

Very Important conversation to have. I know Indians who will admit to this. And so should they. But other close to me still deny it. Many South Africans have seen this first hand too. When I was giving my Maid R200 a day to clean and iron in my 1 bedroom apartment, the Indians in my small complex, as reported by her and the complex Handyman, were giving her R150 to clean 2 or 3 bedroom apartments. I’d do my laundry myself, so she doesn’t have too much work, and I’d just ask for it to be ironed (ironing is an extreme sport for men😂😂) , but the Indians allegedly had her cleaning, doing the laundry, washing windows and guarding the kids. For 150 a day.
Mind you hand wash while they have the washing machine. Then she will be fed old food kept in a freezer for months or nothing at all. I know this, as the ladies will come to me and ask for something to eat in the complex. When you confront them, things get ugly real quick. R150 is even better, it’s R30 in Durban then food leftovers and old clothes…Malema once mentioned this, he was called names.

Part 4 of 6 -One example I will NEVER forget: a nurse on Night duty was told by the O & G: this baby is a very DIFFICULT birth and it is a PRECIOUS baby. Now to give context, ALL babies are precious. But when doctors use this term it means that it is a mother who has been STRUGGLING for 5 or 10 years to fall pregnant. So now when she is finally pregnant, she is regarded as a VIP (very important patient), so take EXTRA precautions. So the doctor booked a Hotel room within 5 minutes of the Hospital with the instruction that if ANYTHING goes wrong, call me immediately and I will come running. The whole night was very quiet. The next morning the Dr arrived (relieved that no one called him) only to find that the mother was crying and the baby was DEAD. What happened? At first ALL the nurses PRETENDED that they did everything correct (they were lying and protecting each other). I asked LOTS of questions, I was VERY ANGRY. You cannot let a baby DIE like this. We have baby monitors and every 30 minute check up of pulse, BP, temperature etc, so HOW could this happen? As I was walking back to my office ONE nurse, a junior BLACK nurse, whispered to me: Dr, please look behind the cupboard. I was confused. The ward got more than 40 cupboards, cublicles, patient lockers, staff lockers etc. So I called security and we searched. Eventually we found a PATIENT FILE. This was the ORIGINAL patient file of that patient whose baby died. In it was CLEAR EVIDENCE, that there was NURSING NEGLIGENCE, they SLEPT while the patients baby was dying. They did NOT check the patient every 30 minutes, they were SLEEPING! Instead of admitting to their mistake, they quickly opened a NEW file at 6am (Dr arrived at 7am), and they CHANGED all the notes to PRETEND that they did nothing wrong. They falsified the records, put values in for every 30 minutes etc, so the Doctor THOUGHT that they were doing their job. It was a BIG lie and shameful cover up. Obviously I was VERY ANGRY and shouting at ALL of them. Someone will say: hey, look at that Indian Dr, how he is ill-treating his staff. My question is this: what if that was YOUR baby? I regard EVERY life as precious and SACRED. An Indian nurse or a white Afrikaner nurse would NEVER do a thing like that, but a black nurse will do it and her manager will hide her faults. Reason? Indians have fear of God. They know that they can HIDE things in this world, but that there is a Day of Judgement when ALL secrets will be revealed and they will be Punished. So am I a bad Indian Employer because I was angry with a Nurse who DELIBERATELY let a PRECIOUS baby DIE?? I am answerable to God. He is my judge, not the people (or workers) who are either lazy or don’t care about morals, ethics, integrity, honesty, values and taking responsibility when they make a mistake. I cannot drop my standards to satisfy staff and Unions. 80% of staff are hard working. Those that cannot work hard, the lazy ones, will ALWAYS find excuses until they resign. Good luck to them. -However, this does NOT excuse some managers who are rude, rough, or bully their staff or are nasty or are guilty of sexual harassment. There is ZERO tolerance for such behaviour in my workplace. Do not judge me by the worst of us
Sadly, I did have a traumatic experience with a company with Indian managers in Durban when I started my working era. It was so bad and when I look back, I realise I had depression while working in that company. :(

That was just an exception. An exception does not violate the rule, it merely substantiates it.
Not all but majority ❤
Glad you had a good experience and happy that you raised it. Unfortunately he is one in a million.

This is my problem with Indians too.
It's wrong.

Generalizing an entire population and portraying Indian bosses in a negative light fuels discrimination and reinforces harmful stereotypes. Very!!
Best comment on this page🎉

Remember, haggling over price is how business started throughout the world. I myself have never ever gone into a black owned business and asked for a discount. Indians are difficult people to deal with for any race.
Indian employers are not following labour's laws of this country, and I wonder why they regard as BBE, will African given the same opportunity in India
Yoh you have a zero IQ.
Never regarded as BBE!

As an Indian, I hope my people change but I cant see it. What everybody fail to understand is within our community we have sub communities..... To put it simply, Indians don't even like other Indians.
So they must be racist with each other and leave us out of it 😂
@@lionelskink8731she's got a point on this. I've seen this here in Durban, they even treat other Indians bad.

You definitely right me as an Indian from.Durban I purely dislike indians from Phoenix and Chatsworth especially the rich indians from those areas because they think there is nobody else like them and the way most of them rich indians from Phoenix and Chatsworth treat other indians especially poor indians is outrageous honestly call me racist but I myself who is a Indian do not like alot of indians period !!!!! They can take they eggs ans shove it where the sun don't Shine !!!!!
What i want to know is, Who are the best employees?
Durban companies in general pay less and demand more (even for the same company based in multiple provinces). Especially in Auditing.
I'm Indian. This is the truth. Either pay needs to go up or workplace demand must come down.
As an Indian in South Africa, I agree on all your sentiments. As you have suggested, it is a stereotype and stereotypes are made by the majority behavior, regardless of race... It is what it is... We must all do better! Thank you for bringing this up. Nothing should be left on the table in a rainbow nation. Lets just be respectful in comments when we say "they". All people are different on an individual level. We don't need segregation. What we we need is honesty and open dialogue. I think i will subscribe now :-)
I haven’t had an “Indian employer” but I had an Indian manager. He was genuinely disliked (and in some instances, hated) by everyone in the team. I got along well with him but I intentionally tried to stay out of his way. Just my experience. PS: I’m Coloured.

You're quite right. These difficult conversations need to be held. Next you need to ask who are the worst employees.
It's not race that divides. It's the lack of courtesy and respect.
Penuel. Produce a video on why single and childless black women are the worst managers.

Part 4 of 6
-One example I will NEVER forget: a nurse on Night duty was told by the O & G: this baby is a very DIFFICULT birth and it is a PRECIOUS baby. Do not judge me by the worst of us
Thank you for raising this point ,,,they are the worst ,,no shame no compassion,,no humility
Sadly, I did have a traumatic experience with a company with Indian managers in Durban when I started my working era. It was so bad and when I look back, I realise I had depression while working in that company. :(

I'm an Indian working for an Indian and despite the fact that I have to work twice as hard and be held to a higher standard than anyone else to ensure there's not even a thought of favouritism, I would follow that man into war and hell any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
First thing he did when he joined was fight for 100% medical aid for everyone and did salary adjustments to bring everyone to industry standards. When executive management gave a directive to begin retrenchment in order to retain headcount, he willingly submitted his letter of resignation in order to save everyone else. Management relented and allowed us to retain our full staff complement. That's a leader of the highest quality and I aspire to be like him every single day.
The Black Pen I Thank you for this Topic, what you talking about its actually true
All Races My Guy ,But Indians & Females Yes
I live in Johannesburg and I once got a job offer in Durban. A well paying job but the fact that I'd be reporting to an Indian manager I declined, it happened on two occasions..
Well hope you got a good job right now
You can look at the city of Durban and see how horrible the pay is there. They are the worst employers. Expect the most and pay the least as well as watch every second of what you do. In cape town they are bad as hell even if it's a professional company

My daughter fought with his Indian boss at call center she ended up resigning at her job because of the treatment yes not all of them but majority don't have respect unfortunately.
This is something I've been aware of for a long time. It is especially evident in the treatment of black staff. And as Indian South African, I'm truly ashamed. So bad that we don't see ourselves enough to keep ourselves in check.
They are the worst employers, even the indian employees are as bad...too much hypocrisy. I will never forget what they did to my mother at her workplace. Acted like they cared about her mental health meanwhile they are calling her crazy. Im actually glad she decided to quit.

You're 100% right, when Sizwe Mpofu interviewed his mom she me mentioned that companies prefer hiring Indians over blacks when selecting B-BBEE recruits.
We need to fix the broken relationships between all races and tribes.

Yes glad he made his people suffer whilst the indians have empires in Britain now.
How was it the right thing?
@Zayno-s6v The indigenous people were being displaced from strategic participation in their country
Lol I'm not surprised at your poll. We here (especially) in Durban have had the unfortunate experience of working for an Indian. They are racist on another level when they have a little power. There are people I know still working for an Indian for over 20 years and have not seen a single increase in pay. They show their racism (especially towards blacks) BLATANTLY. And your very right, most people would rather be unemployed than work for an Indian. I know it's not all of them, but the VAST majority behave this way.
