The Last Piece // O Gauge Switching Layout Track Plan

- I finally purchased the last piece of track I need to build my O Gauge switching layout: an Atlas O54 Right Hand Turnout. These things are expensive, so I’ve been spreading out the track purchase over the past six months or so. The track plan works out and so I’m ready to begin construction!

Love seeing this coming along. "Rubber-scaling" is a fun lifestyle! Sticking to a single scale is so boring. 🤣🤣🤣
Ha! I get more done in three months than you get done in a week! Seriously though, I'm quite intrigued by the O scale layout (something I never thought I'd say). I'm a bit leery of the smaller scales because they are too small for my aging eyes. Looking forward to seeing your progress!
I have to keep swapping out my progressive lenses every year now because my closeup vision is going downhill. At least if I get cataract surgery in another five years I can just use cheap reading glasses instead of these $700 jobs lol.
I need to see a G scale one now
Now you need to plan out the G scale/large scale switching layout😊😊😊😊😊
So much good stuff going on and planned out! One of my favorite YT model RR channels. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you’re getting back to the N scale switching layout. I’m working on a similar one
You definitely have a lot of projects going on at once, I enjoy watching every one of them 👍👍
Nice. I have a spot in my sun room that I've been considering putting some O-gauge and this is giving me some ideas.
Looks great, Steve.
Really looking forward to the z scale switching layout!
The last piece.
Atlas switch in the O scale layout.
Good job my friend.
Very cool, looks awesome thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Sounds like an exciting year a head for all to watch can't wait. That switching layout looks like fun. Thanks for sharing.
GOD BLESS 🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖
Looking forward to your future videos and especially the finished o gauge layout
Looks great!
Looks like it will be interesting to operate. Looking forward to see how you construct the structures since they will be so large. I see I am not the only one with too many projects going on at once, though I am currently only doing three layouts and all in N-scale. Not to change the subject, but I am wondering if you still have that little Kokoni 3D printer and how it is working out? Cheers.
I still have it and use it for random detail parts and such. I like that I have it above my desk and can print in the office without resin fume issues and stuff but I want to get a small resin printer for a lot of this stuff. The kokoni one has a narrow range where it is really useful. It is small so hard to do big projects, but very small things with detail are going to be better on a resin printer. I’ve actually printed a bunch of telescope parts recently on it since I do astrophotography as well, and it is nice for making random adapters and whatnot.
Nice Layout. Like me 🛤️🤩👍
Looking forward to the operations on the tri-level N scale railroad, but the big question is when do you start on the 1" to 1' live steam garden railway? 😀
That would be fun if I had a larger back yard!
@@StevesTrains You are really good at building small railroads. Maybe a live steam Inglenook? 🙂👍
@@edwardstd52that would be a fun idea!
Do you watch the DIY digital?
Every week!
More and more, I'm appreciating your channel. Thank you for all that you do to show your work to us.
I'm working on an HO layout with my grandson who is six. It has two "roundy roundy" sections and his part of the layout is a door with two main lines running near one side. The open area for a switching area off of his main line is 17" x 75". I'm having a very difficult time trying to find a switching section to fit in this area. I don't really know what I'm looking for. Do you have a suggestion that might work for me? We're using Kato HO track. Thank you!
I would recommend looking at some of Lance Mindheim’s stuff (he has a lot of great books on Amazon about switching layouts). Also: lancemindheim.com and also check out Rob Chant’s amazing site for ideas: www.jomrd.com
THANK YOU!@@StevesTrains
Thank you. I was thinking of using an Inglenook or Timesaver. But then I read that some recommend against it, particularly because the Timesaver is anything but! Then I saw that someone recommended the Switchman's Nightmare. I have that plan as well.
I am not looking for a specific industry or time period or rail line or anything like that. I was just hoping that you had a "generic" track suggestion for me. I've not done switching layouts so I'm looking for a starter plan. Thanks again.
@@StevesTrains
I like the inglenook design since you can either operate it as a puzzle or not if it is part of a larger layout. The timesaver is a fun puzzle, but not “prototypical” in general. People will either like or hate it depending on the type of person. I actually usually start out my day early each morning doing some puzzles on my phone to get the brain going. But, some people hate the idea of puzzles.
Thank you.
Steve, are you going to get an SW1500 from AZL for the Z Scale switching layout? I've had my eyes on their Penn Central ones.
Probably will stay with something a little larger but will see.
Great Job Steve! I use realtrax...did you have to use custom cut atlas track for this? Or, could I use the track sections from my realtrax track list? I am working on a plan for a 4X8 layout. Please provide suggestions ? thanks!
I only had to cut a bit off one small piece of track. If I had used a left hand instead of right had turnout in the same place no cutting would have been needed. I don’t know anything about realtrax so can’t comment on that, but probably a similar arrangement could be created. A dremel tool makes short work of cutting pieces to size, however.
Hi Steve, can some HO scale diesel locomotives actually blow smoke?
Not sure, I know there are both HO and N scale steam locomotives with smoke, but not sure if there are any diesels with smoke as I haven’t ever looked for that before. If anyone makes one it is probably BLI.
@@StevesTrains thanks for the valuable information Steve!!💙
Can you help me find some 0 guage track I live in the uk need just a loop of track
There are lots of online shops but I don’t know of any over there that would be good. I would start with Trainworld.com over here and contact them as they are a huge provider in that scale. They could probably refer you to a place out there if you didn’t want to deal with overseas shipping and fees and such.
Thanks
From this video, one thing is completely clear.
You are not working on enough projects with enough different scales.
You need to work harder
You are right. I need to get cracking with summer and vacations and such not far away.
