I bought a bamboo steamer from a shop in my local Chinatown over 20 years ago. I recently drove by the shop for the first time in 20 years last year, and the whole plaza is abandoned and derelict now. The bamboo steamer I bought there is still being used to this day and has outlived the shop that sold it.
I am Asian. I’m from the region where Dim Sum is originated. I grew up eating out of these baskets. I’d always thought these were made by machines and never really given much thought about them. Now I have a new found appreciation for something I see every day of my life. Bravo to the craftsman. But him not wearing gloves and hacking with so much force with his fingers inches away give me so much anxiety. He knows what he’s doing but still.

I love bamboo as a material. It's great for things like spatulas where it will last for literally years. Steamers too as shown, although I wonder if the need to hand make them is much of a thing at all these days. Clearly they are mass produced items given how many of them there are.
This motivates me to care for my steamer even more. It was also shamelessly inexpensive at Ikea. I could pay 5 bucks more, just to support the maker...
Simply fantastic. Great documentation too. Bamboo is really a gift from "above"! Unfortunately not growing in Europe. Thanks a lot for making taping editing uploading and sharing.
*Beautiful result.* The steamer baskets are a great tool for cooking. In the factories such work is made by workers who do one and the same step all day long. This craftsman can enjoy more verity in his work day :-)

He's stepping on a food utensil part with his shoe.. Good thing it'll be steamed to disinfection. So, when you buy one of these, use them once while empty.

it will take a long time, but you can why not?!

did u notice that most good narrators are men? i hardly heard women narrating. any channels with women narrators?
Beautifully made. Such craftsmanship is to be congratulated and admired. A steamer basket is a wonderful healthful way to cook. Thank you.
China number one!!!
It's good for steaming cat meat, or endangered bear gallbladder. Very healthy.
Is this a Chinese shill? This sounds like something a marketing department would come up with.

Mad respect for the craftsman. Terrific work! I wonder how much each one costs.
Cheaper over there as probably inflated over here
In the old days, bamboo nails and bamboo strips were used instead of the stainless wire. Nothing made with metal including the handle.

yes , mine is 100% bamboo, not a bit of metal or plastic.
0:37 the store sign says this store is "Taiwan Cypress tree Foot bucket"。 BTW, Foot bucket is what we use to wash feet (hot water) before sleep
Well that seems unhygienic
I want a foot bucket now

You are my hero, Sir! Much obliged for the information. Truly thank you.
Matter of fact, if I can get one, it'll be 2, I'll send you one as a token of my appreciation.
Fun fact, Bamboo splinters are nightmarish to get out. Way worse than regular hardwood.
?
but his hands are prolly as hard as cow leather
Doesn't sound fun at all.
They are also itchy as all hell!

Insert dog from Up here going "SQUIRREL!!!!"
The old man reminds me of my dad. I miss him 😭
Bamboo is technically a type of grass. That is why it grows so incredibly fast.
The craftsman is really strong for his age
Bamboo really is amazing, isn't it?
tony would have loved these. steaming was one of his favorite methods
I cant even draw a fine circle. I respect that craftsman.
Food must be very well cooked if it is steamed for thousands of years, but makes planning meals a challenge!!!
THE ARTISAN VERY NEATLY DONE VERY WELL CRAFTED
The amount of chill 'the craftsman' has is too damn high

A fine and perfect craftsmanship using a sustainable yet durable material.
Nice 😁
It's always, a pleasure, to watch a Craftsman, creating his art!
Great craftsman need a raise.. handmade but relatively cheap unlike other thing (handmade shoes, bag which cost arm and leg)
You omitted the handle being put in place. How did he put the handle in?
Wow! I was expecting it to me machine made! This is amazing!
Bamboo has so many uses!!!!
0:51 really, narrator? That’s a cleaver!😂
Interesting this kind of hand crafting
Props to the caged squirrel @ 1:04. What an awesome feature to the video.
Kinda sad actually. That is a tiny cage for a squirrel.
Work with heart & passion.. ❤️❤️❤️
Greetings from bamboo craftsmen in the village Sir.. 😊🙏
The sign of the store says ‘foot spa bucket’ !!!!
Lmao, what could it mean?
"台灣檜木泡腳桶"
"Taiwan cypress foot spa tub"
These kind of shops usually make various kind of wood/bamboo containers.
Was looking for this!
It's just a coopery.

Now how does the paper not mold from the steam?
Beautiful
Are we just going to ignore the random squirrel in the hamster cage? Lol
All I could think about is "Thats one BIG steamer basket"...
It looks like it would requires a lot of time and effort and i doubt it can be sold for very high price
It's about 0.5 USD each in my place, and it uses bamboo stripes instead of stainless steel one
Awesome! Love it. Thank you.
Sustainable
Just to confirm, is he a craftsman?
Where do I get one of these hand crafted steamers by this guy?????
Seriously!!!!
grocery shops in China town.
SKILLS....👌👌👌👌
Well I didnt think I needed to know how to make a bamboo steamer...but RUclips said otherwise
Very good Art
Amazing
I have a few, smell good too. Effective
wow...
did anyone see that caged squirrel? LOL
It makes me wondered if we're able to see these in the future after the old man passes.
Lol you know it's not just one man making ALL the steamers in the world right? If he dies, there still are thousands of other craftsmen making these.
There are more than 100 people infront if my house making them right now.
and theres a million of us still using it too.
It is funny how the narrator says “crafts men”
How is that funny??
I can die happily now that i know how a bamboo steamer is made
How is it cleaned after each cooking?
