Well... it's finally happening! At almost 28 years old I've finally decided to read the Harry Potter series for THE VERY FIRST TIME! Although I am of the age where Harry Potter was always around growing up, I have never actually interacted with the franchise before. Until now...
I plan to make individual videos for each of the books so be sure to keep checking back on this channel to see what my thoughts are for the rest of the series.

Not wanting to put it down is the sign of a good book. 😊
I love the Harry Potter series and I started reading them in my 40's.

I’m still currently making my way through the books, i’ve not watched the films, but I am really enjoying them. And I could see me being a fan by the end of them.

The reason it reads as a children's book is because these books are written for the kids that are Harry's age. Jo wanted the readers that grew up with Harry having the right experience for their age. So book 1 is written for 11 years old, book 2 for 12yearsr old and so on, up to book 7 for 18 years old. After book 3, it gets a lot darker and after book 4, they aren't children's books anymore 😉

Oh really? I’d never have known that! Although I wouldn’t say the books read for that age either but its interesting to think of it that way!!

@@itsgem__ I thought it was a really cool concept when Rowling told this in an interview. I think she succeeded at the time. The 11 year olds from today, are nog the 11 year olds from 1997 ;-)

It is definitely a cool concept and an interesting way to write a book series. And you make a good point actually about how children have changed over the years.

I read the series while I was on my 3rd semester of my Btech (my roomate suggested me) . Took me 2 and a half weeks to complete it, I was so immersed in the series that I didn't attended any of my lectures😂, missed my soccer practice and games, just attended the labs and rushed back in my room to complete the story.... The story keeps becoming more and more interesting with each passing book...
I am waiting for HBO to make an awesome show out of it

That's awesome! It’s been so interesting to hear other peoples reactions to the series when they read it. Whether they read them when they were younger or older. It’s magical!

My fave books are a tie between the 3rd and 5th books. I loved them all growing up though. You're right in that it's definitely has the tone of a children's book but I think it was purposefully written that way. The conversational tone and the way the narration slips little quips in that would make kids laugh is very fitting with a lot of kids' books When I first read The Philosopher's Stone, I was 9 years old. I remember wishing that I could turn 11 years old and get my Hogwarts letter lol. I'm 31 now and I still have a big soft spot for the story. I don't know if it would grab you in the same way it did for us who read it as kids but hopefully you can have fun with it. I think it was a unique experience being around the same age as the characters and growing older with them every year or two as the books go on.
For future parts of the book I'd love to hear more about what you think about the characters. Like I'm not sure about how you feel about Harry's personality vs Hermione or Ron. Or what you think about the Dursleys and their dynamic with Harry. Or what you think about life at Hogwarts and attending the classes with them. Are their any that you think you might have enjoyed the classes if you went to Hogwarts. Those were just some of the stuff I wondered about. It would be cool to really get into what you're thinking about the book and characters.

Of the ones i’ve read so far, i think I agree that the 3rd and 5th have my favourite plots. I have made videos for every single book. The first 4 are uploaded already and the 5th goes live this week. I have discussed some of the points you mentioned in numerous of the videos but I think I might make a wrap up video at the end to answer questions like those you asked and tell you my stats etc. so that its all in one place too, as well as in the reading vlogs.
Even though i didn’t read them as a child, I can definitely see why they were and still are very popular. Both with children and adults. Because I have been caught up in certain parts and now that i’m coming to the end of reading the series, I do feel a bit sad its almost over.

excited to see more of your thoughts on the rest of the series! i will say that as the series progresses, the themes, plots, and styles get much more complex and deeper, if that’s something you were looking for :)

Really enjoyed the vlog. The books get much darker, so at some point they cease to be children's books.
