Years ago, a guy I worked with asked me for a lift home. Yes, I replied, my wife will pick us up. Driving home after a 2-10 shift, this track came on the cassette player in the car. "Wow , what the hell is this ?" came a voice from the back of the car. He listened to it intently , commenting afterwards that he had never heard anything like it before. These were glory days when I did all I could do to introduce people to the brilliance of the Maitland years of Porcupine Tree. Even though he's not playing on this song.....there was an atmosphere during this period of their history that can never be equalled.
Porcupine Tree gives me chills. Every evening I go to the rooftop and with the soothing breeze touching my skin, I listen to porcupine tree. Best feeling ever. And as I watch the sun go down it just makes me cry(I don't know why). I just wish that I could live in that moment forever.
initally when i saw your comment i thought you were a guy , pretending to be aishvarya rai. so naturally i was quite intrigued. so i sort of went through your profile and stumbbled upon your treasure of songs . IT IS A GOLDMINE . I'm Jay . I am an artist myself and im currently studying @TSM . Lets connect and endlessly discuss music.
How is it that I never heard of these guys until 2022???? 😭😭😭 This is incredible. Listening to this song today. And I'll listen again tomorrow, and the next day...❤️❤️❤️
I sat in the room with a view The girl in the photograph knew Can't you see? Why is she laughing at me? I stumbled through the dark unaware The face in the hall isn't there Tomorrow has gone Where do the voices come from? Watching the leaves as they blew Lost in the room with a view Climb the walls You did not know me at all I fell through a hole in the floor The audience cried out for more Fade away It's just another day Hit heaven far too high.
thx steven wilson to be born,to make some music that i can enjoy, while other shit like rihanna or justin bieber makes the money for all the other zombies. thx alot. i would never say thx enough. there's no words to explain my feeling about this band, just awesome.
I have never ever listened to a song like this, the music, it's out of this world. It's like from another dimension. I don't know this song has an out of the world, one of a kind vibe. Can't imagine how someone can come up with this, this came from heaven i guess..
Nothing in this multiverse can be more perfect than those drum beats, the whole arrangement is unexplainably contenting combination of the eternally magnificent rhythm
You won't regret it. In Absentia and Deadwing is PT rising to their greatest in Fear of a Blank Planet and the Nil Recurring tracks. The only thing that surpasses them is Pink Floyd.
You won't be sorry. Of all their music from late 90s to present I can count on one hand the songs I don't like. They are, other than Floyd, my favorite band.
Totally agree! Every time this track pops up on my Pandora on my morning or evening commute, it just calms my nerves.. and allows me to comfortably navigate home with lowered stress levels.
As much as I love in abstentia and lightbulb sun etc I think this album, their first album, is the best by far. Each song is just beautiful and this as the last song on the album is like being whisked away on a soothing sonic cloud of psychedelia to a better place.
My personal opinion about A Smart Kid. The chorus melody isnt that great. The verse is so and so. The arrangement and production overall is pretty fantastic. The solo and especially the transition into Tinto Brass is AMAZING!
This is the track I was looking for, after having binge listening to them for the first time. Can't name all their tracks yet (and Steven Wilson's).. But I will! I love the chorus but I don't know what he's singing? It sounds like "we'll never fly too high."
I'm new here, just discovered this great song, clicked from the first time I just heard. Thanks for sharing!!! PS. Founded in Snatch sound track play list
2:40 the dissonant notes fighting for our attention...just everything about this song...better than any therapist, I gotta say. I hear this, I feel so deeply, my eyes leak so much. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Amazing!! Truly truly truly amazing , one of the best pieces of music i've ever heard in my entire life , i am not worthy of such brilliance & i realy believe that🖤🖤🖤🖤
Great to watch the sun rise to. Edit: I got the Up the Downstair album on vinyl and the vocals are louder in the mix, especially on the 'Hit heaven far too high' part, with the crystally keyboard sounds less loud in the mix. Have a nice day, cheers.
It's like a high-note conclusion to a Movie/TV Series where the Hero gives a tearful goodbye to get rid of his regrets as he flies off over the sea into the sunset.
Here it doesn’t matter which version you listen, but on a proper stereo system (Vinyl/CD) the new Remastered version is something else! But this gives those vintage vibes, and has it’s own charm!
This is the real deal.. I just can't stand the re-recorded Gavin drums.. They took away all the magic - not just from this track but from the whole album. I cannot phantom WHY did SW want real drums here when remastering - why can't the past stay in the past?? I'm bitter about it, since PT was my 'mentor/music education' band and I totally lost interest/moved on when Gavin came along and they switched their sound more towards 'prog metal' palette. Still I would have loved to have an option of listening to the original somewhere other than my old battered CD. So far RUclips is the only place where you can do it properly - thank you sir for uploading (even if it was 13 years ago already)..
was listening to this masterpiece exactly ago too. this comment is for myself when i come back after years remembering this time period (8R REPOOC GNATSUM RODATNEVA)
it is not a statement, it's a point of view... and i by far prefer this track to the pink floyd works since DSOTM then any comparison with PF is non relevant ... Listen to Burning sky as well, the preceding track to fadeway. Few PF tracks apart from the era till Meddle are so good
It is a statement though, as statement is also a synonym with opinion, which doesn't mean it's true. And is it ever in music? Well not really. I don't see why you're getting agitated / defensive about a single comment. Why should I listen to your advice or any points you're making? "Few OF tracks apart from the era till Meddle are so good" That's only subjective to you of course. I like DSotM and Wish You Were Here better than the early albums anyway. While this may seem(?) that I'm defending PF somehow, I'm not really. I just hear their type of soundscape in this song. Besides, what is the point of trying to prove one bands superiority over another? It's a pointless and a very biased conversation. However... I do like Porcupine Tree and will check out the song you reccomended. Have a good day.
What would happen if Hitler inspired punishments would be taken for one week in an imperfectly perfect world iff anyone listened, talked or thought of MUSIC in the world of nutheads who never thought of future before taking the smallest step? How many of you would have been dead? Tbh, that is exactly the percentage of emotions we hide everyday and the recoil is unknown and varying in our actions. Everything has a price. Amen.
Samuel Van Kemp , you do have to realize that this is an early 90's track... so maybe all modern bands still ARE terrible, heh. I guess I'd say that a band that started in the 90's and is still intact is not strictly modern. Porcupine Tree is pretty great, too bad they broke up.
Not quite. I prefer the original version and I know many many PT fans think Gavin's drumming butchered this track. Don't get me wrong, Gavin is a great musician but his style does not fit older PT songs.
doesn't matter if this song is underrated or not. The people who listen to this know it's in a league of its own.
Rohan Atrawalkar yes yes yes
pure art it self
I am one of them people..

I always space out on this version... Saw PT play this in PHX around 2007 opinionwatcher.com

exactlyyy!! steven wilson is a magician
That's a nice feeling to share, mate!
i am with you in this brother. PT and this song touches something that we keep locked away in our cores. Its the disappointment with this world.
I know that feel and I live for it. 🤙
i will ask my grandkids to play this at my funeral. My one and only favourite song, nothing comes even close to this. It just takes me away.
Yes! That‘s exactly the same way I feel about this song.
One of the loneliest but the most comforting PT songs ever
initally when i saw your comment i thought you were a guy , pretending to be aishvarya rai. so naturally i was quite intrigued. so i sort of went through your profile and stumbbled upon your treasure of songs . IT IS A GOLDMINE .

Seeing them Live in 013 Tilburg 2008. Time flies. I am happy i withness Porcupine Tree. What a Trip. One in a Lifetime.
How is it that I never heard of these guys until 2022???? 😭😭😭
This is incredible. Listening to this song today. And I'll listen again tomorrow, and the next day...❤️❤️❤️
once you get PT's vibe... there's no going back
Me too, I'm addicted now. I was introduced by a work friend, I don't know how I missed them.
I sat in the room with a view
The girl in the photograph knew
Can't you see?
Why is she laughing at me?
I stumbled through the dark unaware
The face in the hall isn't there
Tomorrow has gone
Where do the voices come from?
Watching the leaves as they blew
Lost in the room with a view
Climb the walls
You did not know me at all
I fell through a hole in the floor
The audience cried out for more
Fade away
It's just another day
Hit heaven far too high.
God this is so beautiful...
Quinby Mercury you are a girl I would like!

Very grateful

apparently this is when porcupine tree as a band was still scratching the surface... the core came later
I have listened to almost every PT track. Fadeaway still is and will be the most unique and out worldly piece of music ever made
@@saadwazir9659 this! I'm always transported to a different dimension listening to fadeaway! Other worldly.
the most beautiful an’ succulent piece of music created

I couldn’t agree more, friend!
Usually drum machines are perfect.. where do these comments come from?

thank you steven wilson for everything
Good lord...such a mature sound for such a young, early artist. Steven Wilson is a god among men, truly.
...or just a man that makes good music. Chill, nerd.
@@nunyabusnus3740yeah prog rock fans are a league of their own lmao
So much better than the redone version! And still one of my favourite PT songs, beautiful.
I think the distortion is done a lot better on this original version.
This is more trippy than the remastered one
I can never get enough of this ! Masterpiece.
Still best song ever made IMO.
Totally.
Bas Veneman I like how your tripping frequency is once a month :) this is a good thing :)
Bas Veneman smart kid is close

Just STUNNING! , just absolutely STUNNING!!! 🖤💜
Has that post Roger Waters era Pink Floyd sound. Very moving and hypnotic.
Wow, Gavin's drumming in the remix gave this song so much more life
No.
Dedicated to my friend Leonard Miranda, missing you "Bajan"
best version of this song!
Great version! It´s my favorite already :-)
Another hidden gem from porcupine tree

Where do the voices come from?
I prefer Gavin instead of drum machine, but Steven programmed it well :D
:)
No way. This version has a much better sense of space and ambiance. It's so much more moving.
TheSwordOfTheMorning
Havent checked new version yet :)
Maitland
Great programmer for sure, just a different vibe. The drum machine sounds more "Anesthetized", if you know what I mean? 😍
The best song of all times
Both versions on a shelf :).

Nice one
Are Pinkfloyd Goswami notes?
Who is the drummer here? Is it chris or gavin? It feels like gavin because of those little nuances and hi-hat open closes but wanna make sure!😅
THis is a drum machine. There's no drummer. Steven programmed those drums.
Definitely Pink Floyd -esque haha :D
so what ?
