  • Hello again. Neil here with another tone tip to help you get the right live acoustic tone for you This time I’m looking at the Red Eye Acoustic pre amp by Fire-Eye. Designed for passive piezo pickups but not only I have heard so I’m testing it with Taylor GS Mini fitted with an Anthem SL which has 2 pickups one piezo the other a mic and blended then via the Baggs Voiceprint. Maybe not the most popular set up bit it works for me so how does it sound ? For me it’s subtle but not too subtle. Thickens the sound, seems to add air and some mids and cleans up the bass a bit. The boost seems to add more mids and air too for pushing through a mix rather than a volume boost. Plug n play. I like it.

I definitely heard something I liked with the Red Eye and boost. Did you use the voice print feature with the Baggs, or just use it as a preamp?

Yeh the red eye is there but try to describe it. The boost I liked constantly on. The guitar has the Baggs Anthem SL in then into the VP and the idea was to see if the red eye still added much. The answer was sad but obvious - they all add something !

The sound samples might be easier to discern if you didn't have a live vocal mic.

Fair comment bud. Fir what’s it’s worth the red eye made a difference. Especially with the treble control. It’s a good pedal I thought
