@jay rob IIRC they said something (or did something) and Highland Park did the same a bit later on (allegedly). Joke was Highland Park watches the show and is taking notes (allegedly)
I don’t have a fireplace, but when I sit in my chair in the evening, close my eyes and take a sip of Ardbeg Uigeadail, I hear a fireplace and feel the warmth... so nice.
I live in Austin. I have never been much of a drinker except a XX after work. I am retired now and my doctor tells me I cannot drink at all because of my heart medication. Now I drink vicariously with you every episode.Lekhayem.
I tried the new 2018 Twenty Something (the 22 year old) and it was glorious. Fun fact--that was actually the FIRST Ardbeg I ever had. I'm only a year and a half into whisky, and there are just so many distilleries I haven't tried yet, and Ardbeg was one. I was at a whisky expo and was told if I wanted to try the Twenty Something to do it right away as it was going fast. So I did. Also tried the 10 and the Uigeadail that night, and loved them. Bought a bottle of Oogie and am looking forward to trying more from the lineup soon.
Uigeadail does have a peaty rich smoke hit on impact. However, the very close secondary burst of flavor extends long after Ardbeg 10 (which I like very much) has lingered off. Obviously Uigeadail has ABV superiority so enjoy on a consumption level slightly lower than the 10. You can't go wrong with Uigeadail if you enjoy rich peaty and smoky flavor that lasts.
Thank You!!!! I began my whiskey journey several months ago. After trying all forms and developing a palate, Ardbeg is the whiskey I can call mine. Absolutely amazing!!! I love your channel and hopefully I’ll make it down to Texas for a Som class in the future.
My favorite is the Ardbeg Dark Cove CR of which I have 2 bottles. But I’ve also got a bottle of the Ardbeg Kildalton I have yet to open. But, for me I think the Ardbeg 10 is one of the best quality/price ratio whiskies.
Tried Dark Cove at the Grand Opening after party at La Quinta. An amazing Officer and a Gentlemen sat down with me and we drank a good amount of his bottle and talked shop. For myself it was a highlight of the evening. Jason Unsworth thank you.
Ardbeg is my favorite. I recently had their Ardbog which was absolutely the best Ardbeg that I’ve had. I travel a lot, so I buy what I can when I can. Right now I have 10yr, AnOa, Uigeadail, Corryvreckan, Perpetuum, Kelpie, Grooves, Dark Cove and Auriverdes. I’ve also had Alligator and Galileo. And I recently saw Twenty Something for sale in Atlanta for well over $500. I am totally impressed with how distinct each of their whiskies are.
I've only tried the first three ones but An Oa is my favorite. It was a while ago that I compared them but to my memory the Uigeadail tasted like a campfire at the beach with the moke and a bit of salt. An Oa taste more like a campfire in the woods in the fall with the earthiness and darker tones. Ardbeg Ten is a good whisky but sde by side with the other ones it felt a bit bland. I like all three but where I live the An Oa is about $5 more than the Ten and Uigeadail is about $25 more but isn't enough bang for the buck. This is my personal opinion and I respect anyone that feels different.
I've been blessed to try the main lineup and Uigeadail is my favorite. It tastes like Fangorn Forest. I hope to one day have Dark Cove and Lord of the Isles. Caramel is my preferred sweet so combined with the Tolkien-esque aesthetic and the fact that its a 25 year old ARDBEG in my mind its already one of the best whiskys ever made.
It probably is but you rather have a lot off good bottles off ardbeg or just 1 fancy 25 year old bottle is the question. Or you have too be rich... Then yeah I wouldn't care😛
That's scary lol. I can't wait to try ardbeg when I get paid next Friday. I LOVE Laphroaig 10 and lagavulin but the latter has been so hard to find lately
I am a big fan of Ardbeg specially Uigeadail for the price. I have a bottle of Laphroaig 25 that's my favored but at $450 I can't afford a bottle every week. eep up the good work. Marc
Great great great episode. This is an expensive line up!!!!!! Respect for Ardbeg , the 17 you described sounds very different than I have perceived. Strawberry and cream, very different indeed. I suspect the cork tainted your bottle maybe?? The Lord of the Isles ( only tasted once-;( ) was overwhelming sublime perfection to me.
Great episode. I picked up a bottle of Kildalton while visiting Ardbeg and it’s lovely but when this bottle is empty, I’m going back to my favorite Ardbeg… Uigeadail.
Happy Ardbeg Day 2019 from New Zealand, I had my first Ardbeg 10 today and as pleasantly surprised. Long lingering smoke, fantastic. All the best, love your reviews
Doesn't rinsing a glass with water still affect what you pour into next? Like even if you shake it out, doesn't it still water down the next whisky and thus change it?
Since discovering whisky tribe i have bought a few whiskeys a few weeks ago i picked up a taster of ardbeg knowing that i would love or hate it and i feel neutral. Definitely a taste thats unique
I think I am of the very few who enjoy a dram of Ledaig. Its the Volvo of smokey whisky. Safe and reliable, but can surprise your friends when you show them it can keep up with the best.
Hey Daniel and Rex! Love the videos :) I just got my self a bottle of Ardbeg and it's so different than what I've had before (but in a good way)! The smokiness is so pronounced, it lingered long after I had finished my glass. Thanks for the awesome recommendation and keep up the good work!
Boys, remember that the age will diminish the peat over time just from time in the barrel. In general, the younger the whiskey the more peaty it will be
Doing a taster on the ardbeg 10 myself as I watch closely followed by the Cotswold distillery first single malt, A very good offering from a English distillery
So here’s the deal. I’m a former Chef who now works in tech because that’s where the money is. A year out I’ve started missing the sensory aspect in food and then remembered I like whiskey and it’s extremely different from types and region. 20:35 - There are different types of peat and the flavor of the malt depends on the type(s) of peat that is used. The more roots the peat contains, the smokier the malt tastes. There's an excellent short video about this topic by Highland Park's Gerry Tosh: ruclips.net/video/m_xtuMm9USA/видео.html
I have been watching these videos for the past 6 months and have never been more thankful for these two guys. I went from jack daniels to crown royal, to johnny walker, to Glengoyne, to Ardbeg. I find it so weird that Ardbeg is my favorite 😲 half and half with sprite is like cotton candy! I never would have found such an amazing drink with the help from these videos and the friends along the journey. Whisky tribe forever!
I bought my first Isla whiskey today Laphroaig 10. I won't say I dislike it. But it's definitely an amazing weird Smoky flavor. However, with a couple of baby back ribs it really seemed kind of tame. But it's so smokey on its own it makes me giggle when a drink it.
About a day after watching this I stumbled into a bottle shop I had not been into before to find they had some Dark Cove. Damn does it live up to your hype! Sláinte
Seems like with a lot of Islay distilleries, their limited or more expensive releases are often less aggressive and are trying to marry other characteristics to their base flavors (sherry cask finish for example). Are there any (besides Octomore) that absolutely turn the aggressive knob to 11? Worth noting I've tried Port Charlotte as well, and it was more meaty/less smoky than i prefer.
Laphroaig 10 CS and Lore are definitely more aggressive than the standard Laphroaig 10. For Ardbeg, Corryvreckan is more intense than the 10, but lacks in complexity. I suggest mixing the two if you can get both. Otherwise, just stick with the 10. Also, tasting an unpeated, heavily sherried malt side-by-side will emphasize the smokiness in Islay malts.
After moving going to a near by liquor store. Going for some ardbeg 10 they didn’t have the 10 but they had a dusty side ways box. Asked what it was. The box was the dark cove👍.
The Dark Cove was probably my favorite Scotch I've every tried, and I could never even find a bottle of it because it was already discontinued by the time I got to try it. Why do they have to discontinue all these amazing expressions?? Bring back Dark Cove. :'(
Had my 1st Ardbeg OA tonight And tasted it with you.....I was surprised how quickly the peaty smack down was tamed after only a sip or two...🇺🇸🥃🏴. The smoke was learnin' me good....now the dram sips feel back throaty and sweet if I wait for it. I Do Love the 10 and how differently it can be appreciated from the Laphroaig.
I am currently trying out my first Ardbeg 10 and must say it is far superior to Bowmore 10 (airport edition)- no caramel, smoother, not as overpowering with the spirit, even though it has 46%! I still remain a Speyside/Highland kind of guy but Ardbeg is now my go to after a nice beef stew ;) PS. Greetings from Poland guys!
In terms of bang for your buck/best for the money, I 100% recommend Uigeaidal. The flavor complexity, smokiness, and overall drinking experience for me is the best of the sub 100$ Ardbeg's. Having tried Corryvreckan, Uigeadail, and An Oa, I cannot justify the 12-14$ increased cost of the Corryvreckan over the Uigeaidail.
There are a couple of first for me with this episode First time i have a drink while watching I mooched for the first time I tried to blend for the first time How did it go? Surprisingly well! Nice vid boys
I have just recently been watching your videos. I am sitting here with an Ardbeg 10 in my glass. This is second to my Laphroiag 10 (my favorite). I don't understand why a Lagavulin is considered better than the Laphroiag. (Not even figuring in the price point differential.) I am also drinking a Bunnahabbin which I think is better than the Lagavulin. The Caol Ila is also good. Oh. All these other Ardbeg varieties are not available her, so I'll enjoy your tastings, knowing I'll probably never taste them.
Why keep a personal diary on rex? Just ask highland park what he likes.
This comment deserves far more likes.
@jay rob IIRC they said something (or did something) and Highland Park did the same a bit later on (allegedly). Joke was Highland Park watches the show and is taking notes (allegedly)

But your comment, my good sir, it deserves more likes!
Hi fang and fether
Would you please send me samples of the ardbeg 20 something and the ardbeg 25 year old, I will gladly pay for it !!!
Comparing EVERYTHING in a video like this is literally a dream come true, and shows the true power of the vault.
The world looks different through Ardbeg colored glasses... 💚💚💚
Christina Zirpoli translation: shit be tripen when drinkin ardbeg
Christina Zirpoli I joke. I joke
I'd say balance was restored
@@bradleyroberson1094 I feel at peace....
Christina Zirpoli grim and flavorless lol 😂
thank you for the sock idea.

“The world looks different through Ardbeg.”
You just gifted them a killer slogan.
They can use a fat girl who, when viewed through the Ardgogs, looks like Scarlett Johansson. :)
I don’t have a fireplace, but when I sit in my chair in the evening, close my eyes and take a sip of Ardbeg Uigeadail, I hear a fireplace and feel the warmth... so nice.
Ardbeg 10 is all I need forever... if it gets better..I don't wanna know
@Howard Johnson Like that?
Uigeadail is the better IMO but 10 is also very very good.
Yeah that's just your wallet talking, sounds exactly the same as MY wallet.
It does. Uigeadail is fantastic.
But does Ardbeg give you a plot of land with each bottle you purchase? I think not!
Which you can use for burying the Laphroaig for it's inferiority 😎
Laphroaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaig!!!

I was hoping Rex was gonna say "I'm getting notes of cork" for the 17
I fell in love with peated scotch with Lagavulin 16 and Ardbeg has enhanced my scotch journey! Fabulous video guys!! Cheers!! 🙂
So much dolphin laughter, it is marvelou..... should I say magnificent!
I miss these days. You guys changed so much!
Because it's an Ardbeg day episode I wish I could give you guys more than just 1 thumbs up.

Yes our calls have been answered ! All hail Ardbeg
Finally a real whisky! 😎🥃 all hail ARDBEG!
No Corryvreckan?? (Uigeadail is my favorite but I just wish it was in here for comparison sake)
Corryveckan is 💯 the best until you go past 20 years it shits all over An Oa and Uigedal
Daniel at 4:30 -- "I can't go through all of these."
Yeah, that worked out great!
Wait... a true bottle-down... and no song???
But, Ardbeg has made it's proper resurgence. Well done Brad LeClerc
I come back to this ep about to very six months or so. Absolutely love an Ardbeg day!
Hey Daniel,
Thank you for giving Rex his own month because I learned more these last 2 weeks then as long as I been watching the whiskey vault haha

I envy you guys. "Working hard or hardly working" applies best to those who are passionate and their work IS their passion.
FINALLY you guys did Uigeadail. I was trying different ardbegs and it was definitely my favorite, but until now there had been no video with it.
@15:25 yeah its called flavor fatigue and it is ABSOLUTELY a thing, never EVER save the best for last when sampling more then 5 similar things.
We're all in Ardbeg world, Daniel. Some of us just choose to be blind to the truth!
The episode we have been waiting for is here! Perfect day too, I received very good news today!

So many good ones ! My favorite is my old friend corryvreckan.
Indeed, I wish they'd included Corryvrecken. I had a pour of Corry a couple weeks ago at a nice cigar bar and really enjoyed it.
Corry was my first and favorite Ardbeg
When they refer to the medicinal note in Laphroig especially, do they mean how it smells like bandaids?
yep, I had the same impression. Found out is the iodine from seaweed
My friends and I are going bottle shopping tonight in prep for a game night, and i just added Ardbeg 10 to the list :D

Great episode. I picked up a bottle of Kildalton while visiting Ardbeg and it’s lovely but when this bottle is empty, I’m going back to my favorite Ardbeg… Uigeadail.
The Ardbeg 10 makes an interesting boilermaker if you add it to a robust beer - I like it with Cooper's Sparkling Ale.

Oh wow that’s some serious money
Doing a taster on the ardbeg 10 myself as I watch closely followed by the Cotswold distillery first single malt,
A very good offering from a English distillery
So Daniel and Rex, Lore or Dark Cove?
mouth watering on the last two bottles thumbs up
Is Uigeadail really that good that it compares with and even beats some of those really old versions??
Guys, thank you. I really enjoy listening how you describe the whiskys. I'm almost tasting them. When I actually do I can enjoy them better.

Seems like with a lot of Islay distilleries, their limited or more expensive releases are often less aggressive and are trying to marry other characteristics to their base flavors (sherry cask finish for example). Are there any (besides Octomore) that absolutely turn the aggressive knob to 11? I've been most pleased with the standard 10 from Frog and Ardbeg, but go for the Lagavulin 8, would the best option be to grab a cask strength version of either of these, or the Lag 12 CS perhaps? Not ready to break the bank on Octomore yet, but I'm vehemently searching for the biggest smokey ass kicking I can find.
The Dark Cove was probably my favorite Scotch I've every tried, and I could never even find a bottle of it because it was already discontinued by the time I got to try it. Why do they have to discontinue all these amazing expressions?? Bring back Dark Cove. :'(
I just tried Uigeadail last night. First Islay Scotch ever. It was a trip!
Glad to see them give attention to the mid shelf Islay this week, time for Lagavulin. 😂

The smoke was learnin' me good....now the dram sips feel back throaty and sweet if I wait for it.
I Do Love the 10 and how differently it can be appreciated from the Laphroaig.
What about Corryvreckan...? Would’ve liked your comparison.
You can use “screen worn” tube socks for your limited releases. Create a secondary market for collectors.
The chosen one has brought balance to the force
by that logic that would make me.... evil? right? I'm ok with that, as long as it leads to balance! :P
gwaihir windlord he has the high(land) park ground now...
I am currently trying out my first Ardbeg 10 and must say it is far superior to Bowmore 10 (airport edition)- no caramel, smoother, not as overpowering with the spirit, even though it has 46%! I still remain a Speyside/Highland kind of guy but Ardbeg is now my go to after a nice beef stew ;)
PS.
July 2021 definitely time to revisit Ardbeg.
I love me some An Oa
Is it just me that noticed that when you wer talking about Uigeadail the An Oa bottle was presented?
I'd be eager to see what a 50/50 blend of Ardbeg 10 : Laphroaig Quarter Cask would be like
imo, it's good.... but not as good as the 10 on it's own...
Never never cross the streams!
Compass box peat monster is a Laphroig, Ardbeg, and Caol Ila mix, really good, salty sweet with a metallic black olive and latakia pipe tobacco finish
The note i love in ardbeg is that brinyness along with the peat
The "allegedly" and the "or so they say" broke me😂😂
