Yea actually a better way to do this is after you cut the front one, let it down, take a piece from the top infront the ear that you just cut, as a GUIDE, then use that to make the cut in the back. It will flow from front to back perfectly. But the thought process is here

I have done this tutorial several times, and I could not be happier with it. I see a lot of beauticians throwing shade at this tutorial. I work two jobs just to get bye... I can't always afford a salon... and even when I can, they typically don't give me a lot of layers like I ask for. I have long, thick, wavy, hair, so everything costs more. I am trying to learn to get more out of my waves, and it is definitely a process. This cut is low maintenance and beautiful on my hair. Brad, I can't thank you enough for all your tutorials and all your fantastic content.

Likewise, it was very fortunate that it came out well on my long thick hair. Oh and length and now I have beautiful layers. I really think I was kissed by God! There’s no way I could’ve done this and the salon is never done my layers like this they would always look choppy for $100 a pop! This looks elegant and natural. My waves are just enough to toss it around! Glad your hair looks great too!

Same here. I've been growing my hair out for a few years and I had a lot of damaged, split ends and I wanted to have nice layered cut that didn't sacrifice too much length, but I also didn't have the money to go to salon either.
So I just happened to be scrolling through random RUclips videos and Mondo's butterfly cut tutorial popped up and I watched...and I watched eagerly, lol.
Afterwards I went upstairs to my bathroom, wet my hair, took a deep breath and started cutting...and I couldn't be happier!
I've been cutting my hair like this for a little while now and love it. It really is easy!

Back in the late 90s, way before these videos, I went rappelling. I had my hair in a ponytail, but it was really windy that day, and my hair was long enough that it got caught in my circle 8. My husband's best friend came down to assist and finally said OMG! I am going to have to cut your hair. I said Just do it! I ended up having to taking his knife and cut 2-3" off. Go to the bathroom to take my hair down to see how big of a chunk it left and mentally preparing myself that I was going to have to make a call to my best friend's hairdresser bf. Pulled the hair tie out, and it fell down, perfectly layered. 😍 So, when this trend of videos started, I was not surprised with the good results. 🤣🤣Also started braiding my hair when going rappelling.😂

Soo my mom and I did this like 2 days ago. Cut eachother's hair exactly as the video told us to. It really brought out my waves/curls (think: 18th century wigs mixed with that Kpop middle-part hair), buuuuut the length of the back really made it look more like a shag haircut (think: 80s guitarist wearing a way to small crop top). Honestly feel like I was a 18th century grunge guitarist 😅 My mom on the other hand had exactly the perfect result. Long wolfcut with middle part feathery bangs. Very lovely, and no weird pieces sticking out behind the bangs (like I had, cause I think we put the front ponytail too much at the front. We're gonna fix my haircut a bit so it's a bit more short, so wish me luck 🤞❤
Update: We fixed it up a little, made it shorter in the back and made the transition from front to back smother. It’s like a wild wolfcut now sorta and I LOVE it tysm

When I went to hair school 24 years ago, I learned what was called the ABBA method cut. You had to do the 4 sections, but you combed the sections upward from each section, and matched it with a pre cut piece on top that made the top layer length. Each section was matched to the guide from the previous one. We most often did them by scissor cut, but there were a few clients who would wan to try it with the Feather Razor. It was a quick way to get a great style and it looked fabulous!

I was just going to ask about doing this on curly hair. I have long layers, but my hair is straighter underneath and gets curlier and curlier until it reaches my crown, which has lots of shrinkage and because it's so thick and curly, it ends up looking very poofy overall, especially the shortest layer, which sometimes has the short, puffy "shelf" type look...ugh!!! I absolutely hate it and have fought it my entire life! I explain it to every hair stylist and I still end up with the same problem. Do you think this cut offers more layers than a regular "long layers" cut?

This works. It works better for me if I do one pony tail to the front, but leave some of the back hair out of it so the ends don't get too thin. My daughter has really thick hair so she pulls it all to a front pony tail to do it.

I have very thick straight hair, and did exactly this… i will forever cut my hair this way! So simple, symmetrical, and my hair feels so much lighter!
I do not layer my hair for the purpose of volume… but for my hair to feel lighter.

I have naturally straight (it's so straight it's painful) hair and I got this haircut a few weeks ago. I really hated it because it was bland, in the way, and just doesn't have any volume. The longer I have it, the more I like it. No regrets.

Layered hair is literally what gives you volume but you have to style it for it to work. You can't just let it dry naturally or just blow dry it with no styling. Blow drying Your roots with your head upside down helps with volume. Then with your head back upright, use a big barrel brush at the roots and ends while blow drying. This will help give even more volume with the curl at the ends. If your hair doesn't hold curl well then you would definitely need to use products in it but even then this style still might not work for you. So many people think you can get layers and it will just naturally look this way when dry, it doesn't. If you're someone that doesn't want to style your hair all the time or you have super straight hair that doesnt hold curl even when using products then don't opt for dramatic layers like this. I have thick, wavy hair and when I was in my teens in the 90s layers were super trendy due to Jennifer Aniston's hair on the show Friends. I stupidly wanted to look like everyone else who was getting her cut so I got my hair layered for the first time just like hers. I didnt realize though that you had to style it to get it to look like this. I would just blow dry it with out using a barrel brush/product and couldn't understand why it didn't look like everyone else's. I was devastated lol. Wasn't until I became an adult that I started actually trying styling products and tools that I realized why it didnt look the same. My hair has been all one length for years now and I always just straighten it but I'm getting so bored with it. It's just to thick and heavy looking so I really want to cut it. I'm coinsidering trying layers again and getting it thinned out but I'm not a fan of the way this cut looks in the back. I'm tempted to cut my own hair only because I rarely leave my house due to severe social anxiety and agoraphobia. Last time I had it cut by a stylist was 10 years ago 😬. Brad has another tutorial showing how to cut layers in your own hair that I think looks so much better than this cut but I just don't think I can do it myself though. My hair is just to thick to do it easily. Sorry your cut didn't turn out the way you had hoped it would.

I’m doing this. I haven’t had a haircut in 10 months my ends look like 💩 and diy is my only option for a cut.
Edit. I did it. I think it’s ok of course I don’t know how to do a blow out on my hair. I never style it.
I watched him do this on a Facebook video and I think that’s where the key of over directing the back piece towards the front came in handy. I did it he cut but the back was missing the layers so I did it again and just cut a little more bit a ton and it looks great.
