That 2019 team was robbed of a possible national title. I will say it with my chest every day; that ohio state team would have beaten LSU. But the NCAA had to have golden boy in the title game.
@@chadchadderton but they do lose games every year and only win the conference every so often. I’d say Oklahoma runs the Big 12 more than Oregon runs the Pac 12. I think the OP is mostly talking about pure dominance over their conference pears.
@@andygygi5135 the big 12 has so many teams that are either contenders or aren’t. the pac12 might not have as many top tier schools but it’s best 4-5 contend every year. football wise oregon have won the most conference champs recently, pac12 all time as well i believe and also have been to the national championship game 2 times in last decade.

You got a guy like Justin Zwick who was supposed to be the second coming and it ended up Troy Smith was that guy and he became the legend and second coming.
These are somewhat fun. I am a fan of a school that doesn't have enough fans to warrant one of these videos so I will do my own analysis here for my school (University of Maryland). As a big time fan of a program I do have some advantage of Harris Highlights in that I know the rumors that you would necessarily find though a google search. I am going in the opposite order as Harris Highlights starting with the highest rated: 1. Stefon Diggs (WR 2012): After a good freshman year hindered by QB issues, Diggs was hindered by injuries his sophomore and junior years at Maryland before declaring for the draft after his junior year. The injuries concerns caused him to drop to the fifth round, but within a couple years he was considered a pro bowl caliber player for Minnesota and was then traded to Buffalo where he was an All Pro. 2. Wesley Jefferson (LB 2003) After a ton of hype, the rumor amongst the fanbase was that the coaches were disappointed when he reported as a true freshman. He was advertised as having 4.6 speed but came in with 4.9 speed. After a redshirt year, he played in a reserve role his RS Freshman and RS Sophomore year and played reasonably well in that role. Took over a starting spot his RS junior year and played well getting over 100 tackles and earning third team All ACC. Decided not to return for his senior season and didn't make it as a pro. Its not entirely clear he was deadset on the NFL when he left early as he had already graduated and seemed ready to move on regardless. Was a model student athlete, but it was the early days of recruiting sites and they just overhyped him. He matured into his body early so he stood out as sophomore in HS, but by D1 standards he was not an elite athlete and his ceiling never was as high as the recruiting hype indicated. 3. Melvin Alazae (DT or DE 2005): Despite being a mega recruit got kicked off the team before the teams first games his freshman year. Then went to Illinois where Ron Zook was the coach but got kicked off their team. After that he went back home where he was arrested for murder in a drug deal. The rumor at Maryland was he got kicked off the team so quickly because the coaches were worried about his continued drug gang affliation and that he was trying to influence his teammates. Given that he was subsequently arrested for a drug related murder the concern may have been warranted. 4. Terrence Lewis (LB 2021): He is just an incoming freshman in the program so too recent 5. Rakim Jarrettt (WR 2020): Will be a sophomore this coming season. Had 17 catches for 252 yards and 2 TD's as true freshman. The stats don't indicate the promise he showed though because due to the covid shortened season and his personally missing time to catching covid he only played in four games. If you extend his numbers out to 12 games, it would be 51 catches and 756 yards and 6 TD's. Its dangerous to extend numbers, but my point is he showed some promise as a true freshman without dominating. 6. Damian Prince (T, 2014) Was a 3.5 year starter, taking over the right tackle starting spot mid-way through his redshirt freshman year. The problem was his ceiling. He was a great HS player but he was short for a tackle (6'3) and somewhat close to his ceililng when he arrived on campus. For the most part he was an above average starter, but he never became an elite player. Like Wesley Jefferson it didn't feel like it was his fault--he was just overranked coming out of HS because he matured into his body a year or two earlier than most and once the hype gets started it has a momenum of its own. Went undrafted. Did spend an entire year on Steelers practice squad, but never has been active for a NFL game. 7. Vernon Davis (TE, 2003) Was a star special teamer as a true freshman, but played second fiddle to Jeff Dugan (a blocking TE who had a 7 or 8 year NFL career himself). Became the starting TE as a sophomore and put up reasonable good numbers. Was first team All ACC as a junior and declared for the draft as a junior. Ran a 4.38 forty yard dash at the combine and was the first TE taken in the 2006 draft. Had a solid career but never emerged as a superstar. Made the pro bowl in 2009 and 2013. Finished his career with about 7600 receiving yards and was considered a solid blocker by the end of his career. 8. Trey Covington (Edge 2004): Fits the mold of Wesley Jefferson and Prince--was a great HS player who didn't have a lot of room to grow before reaching their ceiling. After a RS year Covington was a four year starter. And he was decent, but never a star, never getting any All conference honors. He struggled with his weight. He came into the program at 235 pounds. The coaches added 20 pounds to get him to 255 pounds but after a couple years of that I think the feel was he lost too much of his quickness so he lost 10 pounds for his last year. Its hard to say a four year starter was a bust, the fact that he was a four year starter gives credence to the idea he was already ready for college in HS--but his recruiting ranking obscures the fact his ceiling was limited. 9. Nick Cross (S 2019): Cross will be a junior year this year. Due to covid 19 his sophomore year only consisting of him playing in 4 games (Maryland only played 5 games and like Jarrett he missed one due to having covid himself). Through two years has 9 starts while appearing in 16 out of Maryland 17 games (one game he missed was due to having covid). Earned HM All Big as a sophomore and 68 tackles a 3 interceptions so far in his short career. He is already a good above average player--question is can he become an elite college player. 10. Demeiron Robinson (Edge 2021): Just an incoming freshman so doesn't count. Since number 3 and 10 don't count, I will add in 11 and 12.... 11. Chris Kelly (QB, 2000): A dual threat QB who had two ACL tears at Maryland. Won the starting job before his RS Sophomore year in spring camp only to have his second ACL tear in the spring game. Ended up converting to Safety where he was a one year starter. I don't think he was ever an elite passer, but he was a good runner and if he had stayed healthy probably could have been a good dual threat QB. Due to not being a really refined passer, probably would not have been a mega star but could have been the 3rd or 4th best QB in the ACC in a given year. Chalk up his disappointment to injuries, though he was decent in his one year as a starter, albeit at safety 12. Jeremy Ricker (QB, 2006): So this is just rumors, but the rumors were he came to campus was an opioid addiction that limited his ability to grow as a player. Only lasted one year in the program before leaving. Don't think he ever played football again. By 2006 the opoiod epidemic had started but public awareness wasn't to the level it is now. He had the physical tools to be a good player, but his off the field issues just limited his ability to develop.
