I'm back!! Let's dive right into battle!
I had an awesome break doing some traveling but now it's time to let the video game metal flow once more.
We're going all the way back to generation 1 Pokemon with the iconic wild Pokemon battle theme. This theme hits the nostalgia so hard for me personally experiencing that first moment of battle against that level 3 Pidgey. I instantly knew at this point that Pokemon and it's music was the absolute business.
This theme alongside the trainer theme solidified how insane Pokemon music as a whole would be all the way up to present day Pokemon ost's. The signature insane chromatic melodies and driving rhythm makes these themes some of my favorite vgm of all time. And the driving rhythm in particular makes them perfect for some crushing metal arrangements!
I wanted to strike a balance with this metal arrangement, making it as chaotic and hectic as the original but also trying to almost simplify certain elements of it to allow the guitars to be extra crushing. It can sometime become overwhelming to go too overboard with the rhythm guitars and they lose their impact. I feel like I struck a balance here where everything is super epic and chaotic but it feels nice and crushing.
I also wanted to develop the theme a bit more so I introduced an original riff in the form of a breakdown just to add some zazz to the theme! The original piece is a very short loop so this made it feel to me like a fully fleshed out metal arrangement now!

Dude this is beyond god tier. The creators of the soundtrack for Pokémon knew how to write music with such a powerful ability to invoke emotion in everybody. You KNEW when it was throw down time when this song played!

I always thought the Wild Battle Theme was too short and boring to make for a good metal cover - should've known better than to doubt your ability to turn every song into the most badass pieces of metal godness! This was fuckin' epic!
But when it comes to Pokémon themes, I gotta say, the Champion Theme from Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, or Cynthia's Battle Theme, is one of many reasons why Cynthia is the best character in the entire franchise! And I'd love to hear your take on it, Jack!
