I planted a dozen Big Boy plants in my garden last year... I shared the tomatoes with my neighbors and the mail lady... Everyone said the tomatoes were extremely juicy and delicious... Great tomatoes...
That’s pretty good that you could grow Inter-determinate tomato plants in medium sized pots. I’m growing Big Beef in pots for a fall crop and keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll harvest tomatoes before it freezes.
after years of watching my "better boy" plants die earlier in the growing season and less productive each year, i threw in a couple "big boy" plants right next to them. they did super well, didn't succumb to disease but unfortunately didn't ripen before our 1st frost. hoping there are some better choices out there, that have big boy's survivorship and better boy's ability to ripen long before the season runs out here in michigan.
I've grown all of the Big Boy, Better Boy, Big Beef, etc. hybrids for years and they all taste like watery bland supermarket tomatoes to me. Actually, these are probably what supermarkets are selling. Production is insane which is the only reason I've kept them in the rotation. For my zone 9b fall/winter run I'm going to switch it up and see how the Chef's Choice beefsteak hybrids do, like the black, purple, and orange hybrids.
While I may disagree with you on the flavor on the hybrids, I do think the Chef's Choice series is a good pick and I will potentially try more colors next summer.
I grew Better Boy in Edmonton, Alberta. They have a consistent round tomato shape and I use them for sandwiches, tomato soups, SALSAs ( Allrecipes Best Tomato Canning Recipe ) and pizza sauce. I used to grow Beefsteak but found they grew huge with a little more cracking at the top and sides. The main reason I switched to Better Boy was size because they are perfect for about two sandwiches. The beefsteaks I found were just too large and I wasted too much. although some of my Better Boys were well over a pound this year. Good luck everyone
I love "Better Boy tomatoes but the bigest problem is they are hybrids and you can't save seeds that will produce Better Boy's next year ---- when the WEF finds reasons to outlaw backyard gardens --- I'm swithing to either Box Car Willies, or Abe Lincoln, or Rutger which ever tastes the best because they are heirlooms and will grow the same ---- if the WEF tries to outlaw gardens seeds will not be easy to get. They're not destroying the food supply without reason!
It sure is a bummer that hybrid seeds can't be saved. I'm growing a fair share of heirlooms this year on top of hybrids, and I'll be reviewing Abe Lincoln this summer.
Well, the problem with these BIG tomatoes I had many tear themselves off my plants & I have a fulltime job so I dont have time to babysit these plants every single day. ALSO, you will find these big fruits take the longest. Big Boys take 79 days & Better Boys take 70-75 thats a long time ALSO I see it says FULL SUN not 6+ hr of sun each day so These guys are a hassle. !
Trust me, I know the hassle of a full-time job and gardening as well, I think the hardest part is the 1st stage when they are non-mature plants, but once they mature, you can give less attention
Were you paid to say so many good things? I can’t believe there are so many RUclipsrs on the Burpee train nowadays. Maybe grow a good opinion next to those tomatoes.
2022 was stricken with lots of herbicide drift. In the subsequent year 2023, I was able to mitigate this and have much healthier plants. Check out my later released videos to see for yourself

@@moochythecat3435 in trying with these. Some of mine have brown almost rust color on the top
Very nice video Rylee. Keep up the hustle and you may get to 1000 subs which is a good place to start. Don't give up keep going
Great energy! I hope to see more of this from you in the future!

What is the pot size supposed to be ideally?
Which one is best on white bread with mayo? Oh yeah, salt and pepper. Stuff of champion southern boys everywhere
This is pure tomato love.
😅 RX
Those tomato's can't hold a candle to "Beefsteak"
I grew some pretty impressive beefsteak type tomatoes this year so keep an eye out for those videos!
Excellent video ❤
Awesome I was debating which one to get and went with the big boy because I got 3 plants in one plug! Lucky me cant wait!
Happy to help, I've been growing big boy every year since. You'll love it
Best video I’ve ever seen
I feel like I am standing by Bob Barker right now
Dude voice had me hanging on for the next word. And that chewing. Made me laugh. 10 outa 10 video. Need this dude to review everything.
This summer, I will review 42 tomato varieties and do a REMATCH video of Big Boy vs. Better Boy!

Im sure there is, I'm exploring 42 varieties this year, and I think a good contender would be 4th of July or Early Girl which I'm currently growing
@@RyleesGA i've had decent luck w/ early girl. i'll look for the other 1 at my local nursery. good luck this year.
Superb video, heartwarming, it even brought a tear to my eye as it changed my life. 3/5
You had mention you used fungi to add to it to speed it up?
@bretthong6137 In 2022 I did not use fungi yet, 2023 and 2024 I did. Check out my Mykos experiment video for more details
Did they grow faster?@@RyleesGA
I compared my store toamtoe to the better boy I think it's almost to the size I hope they turn red here I'm waiting forever lol
How long after there size will they be red? Thanks
@bretthong6137 It depends, just be patient and when it turns orange wait about 3 days checking if it's firm but has a little give

Better Boys are a pretty nice size overall. My Better Boys this year were smaller, but I agree with their use for sandwiches
I'm growing better boys for my first ever tomato garden. Can't wait to see how they taste!
That's great to hear, you're gonna love them!
I'll let you know!

@@RyleesGA Oh! hybrid seeds can be saved and they will grow they just will not produce the hybrid it will produce one of the parent plants.
Both of the tomatoes have hard white centers that Tasts like stem.
Ox heart or Uglyripe for me .
So you work for burpees?
I'm not sponsored by any entity, all opinions are of my own derived from my experience and personal tastes

Don’t be so mean, I liked the video!
No, I wasn't paid. I just enjoy these varieties and their qualities, I have non-burpee sourced tomatoes which I'll taste in the future
Big boy better boy
Big boy or beef tomato out the best
I haven't tried big beef yet, but I am going to this year, along with big beef plus
Those plants look pitiful
That year I had alot issues with herbicide drift and what not, check out my 2023 season for better plants
you keep switching the names bro do you even kno which is which.
It's easy to get tripped up with the names as they are similar, but I assure you I know which is which.
Do u talk like this all the time 🤣
Actually no, but I like to change my voice depending on the video 💀
@@RyleesGA 😀
just imagine if you had taken care of your plant
