Great video, thank you for your time and thoughts. To clarify a few things for everyone wondering. The name change... trust me we (myself and Vosteed) were not thrilled about having to change the name. But we weren't given much of a choice. The between the lines reading would be we had to bend the knee or spend who knows how much time and $ fighting a giant that we could have never had a chance against. The choil was a happy accident of sorts. When we were working on the design and went for the new lock we needed the clearance for the botton since it passes through the show scale to the lock side of the knife. It just so happened to be placed perfectly for a finger choil so we ran with it. For the t6 hardware.... I don't know why that happened. But I've insisted t8 on all subsequent batches. 😂. Overall we are very happy with how it came out and were glad you are enjoying it so much. I hope maybe I helped clarify the few things you were wondering about. Stay awesome and thanks again for your thoughts.
I'm always shocked and honored when the designers of the knives I review find my content🙌 thank you for clarifying on the name change, it makes sense if another manufacturer was threatening charges, from a consumer standpoint I guess I just didn't understand since there are several knives out there with the same name and since I'm a consumer first I don't understand the legal ins and outs of why anyone could copyright a common word like "Mayhem" I'll chalk it up to my own ignorance. I'm glad you liked the video it truly means a lot to know the man behind such a killer design tool the time to not only watch but comment as well, I hope to see more of your work hit my channels in the future, keep up the great work🔥🔥🔥
Oooh boy, here comes Roll's knife of the year. And video released on Wharnie Wednesday too. Just got my first Vosteed in hand (budget Valkyrie) and an looking forward to seeing Vosteed expanding their design and manufacture prowess.
Witch blade shape is better for self defense (I'm newer to the knife game but my wife already kicked my a#s for spending money)? I'm completely addicted to these knives with my A-D-D or whatever, she also complains I'm on my phone way more now watching knife videos and trying to find deals on the Web (how do I hide this from her, LoL). First knife was a Smock and I put titanium scales on it right away and I have been on the search for button compression locks since and I believe dagger makes one but they are big way to big, in other words I want this knife more then I should want anything.
Condolences to your wallet, it will never recover😂 all jokes aside the wharncliffe blade is excellent for self defense, as far as cutting power is concerned nothing cuts like a wharny if you get a chance check out Michael Janich he designed the yojimbo 2 and his tests showed that wharncliffe have the best self defense applications although I'd argue the beat knife for self defense is whatever knife is in your pocket😂 thanks for watching 🙌
Great knife. I just received mine, which is a White Mtn Knives exclusive version with an Elmax blade, (also a blue pivot, backspacer, clip, and button). I can confirm that Vosteed updated the body screws to T8’s on the RS Kaos! 👍
Was a hold out on this knife for a bit, but pulled the trigger last Saturday when I realized there were still WMN exclusives available. Love the look of it and ELMAX? Kinda Had to lol Should be here tomorrow or Thursday. I'm f'n stoked. (Thought I saw they went all T8s yet, figured it was just on the Kraken. Which I also, surprisingly for me given that made 2 larger knife purchases so close together, jumped on.). 🤘🏼✌🏽
Great knife by any name. I did a bit of research and discovered that Cold Steel released a knife called the Mayhem before Vosteed did. I’m pretty sure that has a lot to do with why it is now the RSKAOS.
Yeah, vosteed did a great job in this one, the name change is what it is but either way I'm really enjoying it..at least its not a model name with all letters and numbers 😂🙌
Thanks for sharing bud!👊🏻 How about doing a short on how you spin that knife the way you do. I don’t know if it’s the camera angle or what but it looks pretty slick when you do that
It's actually not a difficult movement I'm not even that good at it some people are much much more adept but it takes a knife with good balance and steady consistent fingers(I've cut myself many times) but it helps maintain dexterity in my hands and I've never been very dexterous so I practice it because it's fun and tells me a lot about a knifes balance...maybe I will make a short! Stay tuned
Zero issues with my Valkyrie and it's one of my favorite 5 or so carries. The almost goofy little "pwoit" sound when deploying gives me a smile as well. I mean, mine makes that sound and I'm just assuming it's across the whole line...?
Good to know..I could have swore I watched an old interview with spyderco where they insinuated that they could have extended it but decided not to..but maybe that was just pandering to the press..or maybe im misremembering😂
Benchmade patented their Axis-Lock in 2000 and Spyderco patented their Compression Lock in 2001 and as far as I can determine they were protected for the 20 year maximum… but it wouldn’t surprise me that either would insinuate that. I do believe that Benchmade filed for another style of Axis-Lock which was powered by a coil spring and utilized on their Anthem model. I’m unsure about any of the Narrows’ design patent(s), which is ever so slightly different as well than the aforementioned designs…
I could've got one of those on the very first drop, but I didn't pull the trigger. I'm glad I waited because I have the WMK exclusive version in the mail. With that being said, I mailed a ti Thunderbird back to Justin yesterday. Forget about the spine whack the damn thing wouldn't lock. That was the third Thunderbird I had bought, and all 3 of them were trash. The first 2, after a couple of days, having them the button lock messed up, and you could only deploy the knife by using the button. I really like vosteed and own several, but I'll NEVER buy a Thunderbird again!
I know you mentioned the WMK exclusive but do you think they will continue production of their regular versions? If yes do you think they will switch to Elmax on the regular versions like they are on the WMK exclusive? I ask because I'm not a fan of the blue hardware on the WMK version. Thanks.
I'm not sure to be honest. But what I do know is that if you're attracted to the lock they're currently prototyping several other knives that look pretty sweet with that same lock and I wouldn't be shocked to see a wider range of steels in them
@Rollshambo Allright got it, I'll keep my eye out then. Maybe the WMK one will grow on me before the drop and I'll try to pick one of them up. With the success of the "Mayhem" it would be silly for them not to continue making stuff along the same lines as this. Thanks for the info.
Love my mayhem. And yes it IS the mayhem. Poor excuse for a name change. You dont do all that marketing, branding, stickers etc and then say we want to honor the designer. But great knife.
White Mountain Knives is going to drop an exclusive version in November (I believe in Elmax) if you're looking for one id head over there and search for the RSKAOS then hit the notify me button so you get emailed when they drop!
I almost pulled the trigger and I held off thank god! A deal on an Arius that I couldn't pass up and I would have been pissed if I bought this after watching Gideons Tactical spine lock wack major fail!
@@Rollshambo I definitely didn't need it but for 700 for a lightly carried one from someone I know in the knife community that needed green for his SO because of a surprise hospital visit.
Yeah RS Knifeworks confirmed that..whT confuses me is how a common word cN be copyrighted..I should make a knife and name it "The" ..and watch everyone owe me royalties 😂
@@Rollshambo same thing happened with Brian Nadeau back in 2018 with his Arch Nemesis folding daggar. Personally I'd be more concerned with my design being ripped than my name. Companies seem to have a lot less issues with that now than ever. It's an odd community we are in. Not bad but very different. These rules only apply to the modern tactical knives too. Look at how many companies make a knife called Trapper, Stockman , Congress, or toothpick ....coincidentally...they all have the same exact designs ...and no one has been sued. It's almost like...case has other things to preoccupy their time...rather than moaning and complaining 😆😆
I should have the WMNs version delivered tomorrow or Thursday. I'm so confident I'll like it as a user, I finally took my Smock out of the carry rotation to make some wood scales for it(spalted ash) that I know I won't have time to finish quickly. I've got the blanks routed and drilled. Just need to get them to finish thickness, shape and counter drill for the stand off screws. (The new scales are looking crazy sweet and I'm hoping to not f em up lol).
Question is..would you prefer one of the regular ones or the upcoming wmk exclusives in elmax? (Wmk updated their site apparently those will be available in November...oops)
@@Rollshambo To be honest I am not that picky with high end steels. M390 is a good steel, I prefer S90V. But I think I may wait to see what other improvements come with a WMK exclusive.
@@TopDog8762 I'm a bit of a sucker for s90v as well..such a great steel..I believe the main difference is just going to be scale/accent color and bladesteel but I could be wrong
My understanding of that huge finger choil is that it is necessary to accommodate the Smock style button actuated compression lock. That space needs to be empty because the button cams through the whole handle, as also seen on the Smock. I don't have the knife, but I will say that the thicker section at the heel of the blade makes the blade shortened by the choil look even shorter.
Most definitely..although button/tab style of liner disengagement exist without this cutout so I'd maintain it was possible to amend the blade profile to exist without the cutout (darkbolt designs for example)
The difference between what you're referring to and a button actuated compression lock is the relation to the blade and the liner being compressed against the stop pin..so theoretically yes but technically no..kinda like how all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares
The RS Chaos is one of the best of the year for sure and a bonafide standout. I think it's amazing on so many levels.
100% agree, it's been hard to put down for sure
All the new ones are T-8 hardware and man this knife is awesome enjoying the hell out of mine!

And why the heck wouldn’t the re-release their most sought-after model??
