- A walkthrough through of mods and rigging on my first fishing kayak, a Primyl Titan, which I used throughout 2020. This walkthrough is from straight out of the water from a fishing trip. Plenty of DIY mods inspired by RUclips and ideas to setup a great basic fishing kayak. Mods include a Watersnake trolling motor setup with rudder steering, remote trolling motor control, DIY Li-ion battery, led lights, fishfinder, deck mat, railblaza mounts, DIY burley bomb and paddle keeper.
Some of the mods you can see that I don't go into detail: PVC Keel guard, anchor trolley, seat riser, front well cutout, fishfinder visor.
Subscribe to keep an eye out for more videos on walkthroughs of the mods on my current yak, a 2016 Hobie PA 12; a monster rig.
That is a super comprehensive setup. Well done man!
Thanks for the feedback. Check out the new video on the Hobie
Awesome set up, that motor idea is next level!
thank you for making this video. the day i got my kayak, I found this video. I have the same kayak, although rebranded for the US. This is a great set up!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Next level set up amazing kayak I have the same one it works a treat.
Thanks!
great video, nice setup, thanks for sharing
She is Beautiful!! Caught my attention because, I have a 120 pdl 33" wide. Same hull, deck, and tankwell design as your kayak. I run the Bixpy j2 motor, attached to my drop down blade rudder which is toe controlled. I have my spare Bixpy battery mounted behind my seat, and a 12V Cabela's battery, inside my battery box with my usb's/VM/12V plug. That runs my FF and bow light's. And I run my 48" led 360 light on the stern gear track. With me at 5ft 7" she moves around 5mph. Which is perfect speed getting to my spots, totally hands free. Beautiful shot in the morning with the fog, pure serenity out there. 🙏 🎣
The Bixpy would be nice and that's decent speed to get around.
@@inshorefishingoz Definitely and I knew i needed a motor, because I also have a heart condition. The Bixpy, comes with all you need and perfect for a kayak. I've been out on 10hr trips, and covered areas, i didn't know existed. I looked into other motors, but there $1800 and go much higher. And on a kayak 4 to 5, mph is a safe speed.. Especially when we're maybe 3 ft off the water.I love my PDL drive and my paddle, for exercise, or sneaking up on whatever species you target. Good luck bri, stay safe.. 🎣 😎 🙏
AWSOME setup with some great ideas and some "trick" electronics...cheers ~baden~
Thanks 👍
I have just got my first kayak, and it's the Pryml Titan. Good walk through with your set up and idea's on how to set up mine also. Certainly not with the electronics, but i can see how dedicated you are with what you have done. I like the seat raiser (wooden broom handles. I have used a could of small pieces of Plastic to use the higher position in order to the get a little bit of hieght in the seat to use the space underneath.
Good Job. Thanks for the preso. Will keep an eye out for your vlogs.
Good to see how you car top you Yak and what technique best suits your set up and how long in takes for you to get ready to go out once you get to your destination.
Awesome, thank you!
It was just a lift onto & off the roof. Setup was done near the car and then Railblaza cart used to get it to the water. There is a method to use the Railblaza cart upside down on the back of the car (sedan) and roll the kayak up onto the roof. I did use that method near the end before the upgrade to the Hobie (and boat trailer).
Wow! Amazing mods!!!
Good work a kindred spirit make and modify everything as needed. 2 thumbs up thanks for sharing!
Thank you! Cheers!
Love the lithium battery set up thats how u do it ! not sure why people keep buying lead acid.. they produce way less power , heavy, more expensive per effective wattage output and does not last long ..for its lifetime usage and it takes longer time to charge!
Agreed - Lithium weight savings and depth of discharge are a material difference. Initial cost can be an issue - I managed to source all materials and a spot welder for around the same or a little less then buying one. I did find out later that I had been ripped off on non-original cells, but was still getting great duration. Since then, have built an even bigger battery for the motor and repurposed this one for all the accessories.
Mate, you're pretty handy with the mods, nice work.
I've just bought a Kayaks2fish Nextgen 11.5, purchased the motor, battery, anchor system etc but haven't started the setting up yet.
I really need to research what to buy for water tight battery box and running through placement of wires and set-up.
Then how to install a sounder, but I'll get there.
Bunnings has a Tactix case at the moment that i now use - my handmade batteries fit. I purchased the others from Aliexpress - just be careful as the one I received didn’t have a seal. I needed to add some myself.
Great vid mate, dont suppose you have done a vid of you making your bait bomb, i am going to purchase the same kayak and would love to make a bait bomb the same as yours, cheers eddy 👍👍👍
Nice set up but holly shrapnell batman have you been out in wavey conditions ? I recently got my prymal kayak and its great fun but it tips over easily in wavey conditions .
Nice work !!!!! Subscibed
Awesome setup!!!
Thanks!
Awesome kayak! Can’t wait to get mine fixed up! Keep up the great work can’t wait to see more! I also subscribed!
Thanks for the comments and the sub! You wait till you see the next one!
Nice setup.
Thanks!
Oh no good job mate we have the exact same kayak now I’ve realised what I can do to it hahah making me spend more money 😂👍
Great stuff. One thing I was looking at was a hatch for the compartment behind the seat. I think this one may fit: www.freaksports.com.au/product/rectangular-kayak-hatch-350/
@@inshorefishingoz I can confirm it definitely does fit.. I have it on my Titan
Its my Titan pictured in the review section
@@delazy86 Great addition - fits beautifully.
When more vids coming out
Haha - yes, need to set some time aside and do a runthrough on the new one - although not so new now. Still thinking of mods all the time.
Did you cut the front compartment off? How did you go with keeping the water off the yak? Found that the water do filled up at the back.
I did cutout the front well. I found the front well hatch seals well enough that I never had in issue with enough water getting into the hull to concern me even when swamped over the bow from wash. I did use the scupper plugs and carried a big sponge to bail out anything in the cockpit if concerned.
where can I get the same motor mount with clamps ion Aus?
The transom mount on the motor comes with it. The mount on the kayak is hand made with thick structural beam ply that I had offcuts of, and some 1" marine ply that I bonded together from memory. I marine varnished and used stainless fittings.
I just received, and mounted my watersnake on my kayak. Do you know where I can purchase another watersnake sticker? Unfortunatley it only came with one sticker. I would like to find one for the other side of my yak. Thank you for the video.
No, sorry I don't.
Thats cool i cant do that i have to load mine to a roof rack so am very minimalistic with what i put on it
That one was on the roof for each trip, but you’re right - everything has to come off to get it up there as a 1 person lift.
Where is transducer mounted ?
Yes good question. I have the exact same yak and am looking at purchasing the Garmin Striker 4 plus, however I want to understand how to mount the transducer in this yak. Has he installed it within the area that can be accessed underneath the body? I guess so. It would be great if he can reply and confirm this, maybe even explain how he has done that.
@@willgriffiths1410 I fitted my mates up recently with a striker 5. There’s a space under the yak where a transducer can be fitted it took 10 mins.
Exactly guys - this kayak has a transducer box under it. It doesn't have screw points in there though, so I first used strong exterior grade double sided tape to mount it in there, but I think I then changed it to cable tying to the cover. What I did do though was use the cable glands into the front well (which I cu out) to then run the cabling into the front well and back out for battery / transducer cable. Kept things much neater.
Mate best yak mods going aussie aussie aussie !
That's next level!!!
Thanks. The Hobie PA 12 (2016 model) is also getting the treatment. I look forward to posting something on that too.
Wow fantastycznym engineering solutions! Ps what is your wrist watch?
Some version of the Seiko Tuna Can I believe.
Nice rig💯
Thanks 👍
Hey mate nice rig, where do u mount your transducer
This kayak has a covered transducer bay in the bottom of the hull. The trick was how to mount it though - I think I originally used strong double sided tape to mount the bracket to hull. I then swapped it to cable ties to the baseplate.
Abu Garcia 4 Life , mate
do you have links to the accessories you used on this kayak?
Unfortunately not - many (most) are home made. One upgrade on my new kayak I can recommend is a more reliable PWM. I have had issues with a few now and have moved to a more robust brand here: www.motiondynamics.com.au/
Love this... how do you transport your craft?
I car topped it on roof racks.
Very nice!
Thanks!
Great video mate how are u liking the setupa year on?
I traded up to a Hobie Pro Angler after around a year - the stability allowed standup fishing more easily, but it is an investment I wouldn’t have made without this kayak first. Where this kayak was great for me was getting me into the sport without breaking the bank and still having a great fishing platform.
@@inshorefishingoz yer sweet thanks for the reply mate
You can spin your seat 🤔 👍
No on this one.
My head hurts thinking how much time you spent thinking of what to do to your kayak
Haha! Lucky I enjoy doing it - always tinkering.
That’s to much shit on a kayak bro
Can't be - it still floats!
I was thinking the same thing ? I know my prymal kayak tips over fairly easily in wavey conditions 😢
How have u put the motor mount on the back
I made up a mount out of marine ply, using the rudder mounting hole and because of the way I designed it to wedge either side of the hull, there were no holes in the hull there. That didn't stop me making plenty of big holes elsewhere - including cutting out the front well!
