I am a female British horse rider who rides English style, but I loved Cowboy films as a kid and secretly wished to be a cowboy. Well, cowgirl really. I loved the idea of herding cattle and being at one with my horse. Also, I don’t know if I’m right, but Western saddles look more comfortable and supportive?
I have a serious question. I'm a man and I want to get into horse riding, but apparently it's now like a women only thing? I don't wanna be rude but it makes me a little uncomfortable
@@tinest6485 dude, don't worry about all that shit. I got a couple buddies that ride. Otherwise it's a bunch of middle aged women. It's not a male or female thing, hell back in the day it was overwhelming male dominated. Get you a horse and get on the trails!
Your horse is so well trained. So confused by whats going on but totally willing to do what you want. Ive been riding English for over a decade but am going to learn western because ive been told it might be easier on my (shot) knees and very rarely have I seen such a responsive english trained horse. Much love and appreciate for a simple yet through beginners guide
THIS IS HOW I WAS TAUGHT TO TURN A HORSE!!! I WAS LAUGHED AT DOING THIS THAT THE HORSE WAS CONFUSED & NOT LIKE DRIVING A CAR. I RODE BAREBACK ALL THE TIME GROWING UP & USING LEGS & BALANCE.
After trying to help a couple young girls learn to ride, I think it is more accurate to say the older horses are confused and frustrated by hands that don't know what they are doing. Then that older horse stops trying because they are being unforgivingly pulled on.
@@terristillwaugh3063 exactly like an older horse knows all the commands as second nature and when the rider doesn't know what he's doing the horse is like what are you even doing 😂
Great.. Best example and explanation on Western riding yet. Thanks too great demonstration and explanation. Would visit but Im in New Zealand. Keep well, and make a series. That example was wonderful. Nicko Kearney with a K.
What if I'm scared of hurting the horse? I've never ridden a horse and don't want my first experience to be one that hurts the poor thing, is there anything I can check behavior wise to make sure the horse I'm riding isn't hurting or uncomfortable?
One important thing is to give pressure gently at first, for a little bit, the pit on more pressure, wait, more pressure, so on and so forth. Also, let go of your pressure as soon as they do what you want.
I think the thing that most often hurts a horse, for beginners, is poorly fitting (usually very cheap) equipment, especially regarding the saddle and pad. Beyond that, it’ll help you a lot of you have someone to show you the ropes personally for a while.
I come from a dairy farming family and have been wanting to start into the western deals my great grandparents used to do riding, hunting, and even ranching. Do you have any recommendations on how to start with the western horse riding and such?
I wanna start practicing for next year rodeo 😂 I’ve never ride a horse before well yes I did but I fall on the ground 😂how can I start and not being scared ?
Weight distribution is the more important factor than weight itself. However, I’d say my 140 lbs is enough. She was just a young filly getting started when the video was made.
I also had my split reins tied in a knot like a dude; because this was the most basic introduction to reins I could make, intended primarily for first-time riders. It would make absolutely no difference if all I had on her was a halter. The martingale is just what happened to be what I was using on this little filly in the arena that day before the filming happened.
So refreshing when good people DON'T abuse viewers with ads before the video. Thank you for your integrity.
I just don’t have enough subscribers yet to have ads. I’m not sure if I even have a say in it.
@@Prettygoodcowpony Should've just taken the compliment cowboy.
@@Brassness Most likely.
The horse was like "WTF dude, right or left? Choose already! " lol
😂

They are for what we do, yes. Your saddles are better suited for the jumping and fox hunt etc.
I read this in a posh british accent lol
The western saddle distributes the rider's weight effectively away from the sensitive spine.

It’s 4 am but hey atleast I know how to ride horses now
Glad I could contribute to the education of an insomniac.
Same😂
NO WAY SAME HERE!! 😂😂😂 I just came from watching Kai Cenat play RDR2
This is the way riding makes sense to me! I hate dressage. Wished I didn't. But I do.
Thank you for your integrity.
Beautiful lesson. Thanks for the video!

What saddle is that and what size?
What type of gear are on the horse's legs?

Find a good horse trainer in your area and call and ask where you should go nearby to learn.
how much weight is too much for a horse this size? As in, if you are too fat what is the max this size horse in the video could carry comfortably?
Weight distribution is the more important factor than weight itself. However, I’d say my 140 lbs is enough. She was just a young filly getting started when the video was made.
@@Prettygoodcowpony thanks for throwing out a number instead of dodging the question I appreciate that!
Normally a horse can carry 20% of its weight

Can I ride my horse with one hand win my horse thank you Nanette
My dream is to become a barrel racer, but most girls start off very young
There are many people who don’t start as children and do well. Events are made with different eligibilities for that reason.

You can still do it! It’s never too late
Good video but no volume. Get a USB mic.
Boah
Why are you using a running martingale? Get softer with your hands. Ironic that you are doing a piece on using reins.

Not one single instruction on how to go forward. How many of us know left means left and right means right? Waste of time this vid is.
