Love how your horse just stands there wailing for the cue to move on/walk on. The whole time your moving the reins around, you can tell the horse is well trained the proper way.. a good foundation.
Matt, this was so timely for me. I just bought a new bitless bridle and it came with split reins. I've never really ridden with split reins the way you're supposed to before. This is very helpful. Thanks once again, Matt.
Great tips Matt but what I would love to know next are your tips for keeping your horse’s coats looking so fabulous. I know to keep them out of the sun but what do you feed and do to keep their coats looking so shiny and healthy.
I'e always done the second method (cross method) when riding/training two handed. Gonna try the first method but it might be difficult to switch after doing the other for over 30 years lol!
Do you ever struggle with lacking motivation to ride? I’m 16 and have been riding my whole life and this show season I have really felt not with it and I’m trying to get myself on the game again
Don’t beat yourself up! It’s ok to feel that way sometimes. Times like these determine who the champions are later, it’s about the process. And if nothing else you owe it to your horses to get out there and try and improve them And yourself. Get it! 👊🏾👊🏾💯〽️
Thanks for posting your videos! Super informative! Question: what is your everyday split reins? I’m looking for split reins and I want something that is quality and durable. If you could, please send me a link or a company that you recommend. Thank you so much!
What do you start your young horses with I always start mine with a nose band or a side pole and Martingale’s just to get them to break at the pole slowly
Just enough to make light contact ... literally put the rein in the palm of your hand lift it that is contact ...the pulling ideally should only come from the horse never from you. Also remember some horses have longer necks than others like racehorses have really long necks and head position is determined by how much muscle is in the neck etc so its diff for the conformation of the horse.

For someone just starting out with splits I recommend one with thicker ends. That really helps if you have a problem with dropping them too.
When you do homework and your favorite Reiner post 😍
I love it!
Hey Matt! Thank you sharing your tips! I am a barrel racer and pick up so many great tips from your videos. Thank you for sharing❤️🐴
That makes me happy to hear that. Have you been on my website??
Matt Mills no, I’ll check it out😊

That’s awesome. Glad it helped
Your tips are helpful and clearly explained. I look forward to your next videos.
Thank you! 🤙🏾
It took me the longest time to get comfortable with split reins.. but now it’s mostly all I use on my mare.
💪🏾💯〽️
Love this knowledge because its critical when working cows.
Thanks Matt. Love the music. This is going to help me with teaching my grandkids lol.
Thank you so much! I wanna make the transition from bridging the reins to riding one handed
Thanks for all the great tips!!😀
You got it. More coming!
I so needed to this video!!
Now I have something new to practice!! Great lesson!!
That’s awesome! Just trying to share some of the things I font think about anymore!
Hi there Barrel Racing is a Western Discipline but we use single reins
Nothing wrong with that at all!
Great instruction. Thanks!!
You’re welcome!
Thank you. I hate split reins and I think this is why
😂😂😂

I’ve got faith in you! Don’t be scared!
@@mattmillsreining1 haha! Thanks Matt!
Thank you Matt
You mention a video about rein length, I can’t seem to find it. I would love the information. Can you point me in the right direction please? Thanks!
Thanks Matt 👍🏻👍🏻😎
You bet!
Hey Matt,
How many acres does the ranch sit on?
Sits on 10. We’ve got another 10 next door that we mainly use for turnout time!

Hey Matt, quick question, have you ever tried ranch riding? It’s a little like reining but no quite. It’s really cool that’s what I do!
I showed in it 1 time years ago. Anything that gets more people and horses out there competing is great in my book!
Matt Mills Awesome! Yeah I love it!
Can you hold cross reins on one hand on showing??
Good info!
Glad you liked it

As Tom Booker said, “I help horses with people problems.”
What do you start your young horses with I always start mine with a nose band or a side pole and Martingale’s just to get them to break at the pole slowly
Are start mine in a side pull with no nose band
How do I determine rein length with shanked bit?

I see you are a super puncher. Dale Yeah!!!
Love the advise, hate the idiotically loud and distracting music.
I cheated, I'd tie the split reins:)
What do they say? “ If you ain’t cheating... “ 🤣🤣🤣
